Chinese New Year’s Sets 2020 - Rumours and Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It seems like these new ones are starting to be spotted out in the wild in some places. One Instagram post even indicated that they were at "the LEGO Store in Australia", but that wasn't much help as there are now more than one LEGO (Certified) Stores in Australia. Anyone find them yet? -
Now that it's over, I can neatly treat this series of films just like another entry in the EU. To me personally, the old EU had too much in it to care about in its entirety. The six films were the main Star Wars content, and all of the EU was fun to delve into now and again but it didn't matter if it was good or bad, because there was plenty of both to go around. This new trilogy has been just another take on a future, and now I can cast it aside and never watch or discuss these films ever again, much like I will never read and discuss every plot point in the Yuuzhan Vong war ever again. I have a bit of melancholy that that's the state of things, as I recall the thrill in 2015 of seeing the Lucasfilm logo, seeing A long time ago..., seeing the words Star Wars and hearing the familiar music. But that's how things are, and I'm very at peace with it now.

LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Clone OPatra replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
LEGO has changed the makeup of many of their transparent colours, and their new ones are a bit cloudier. This has been apparent on the blues and greens rolling out in the past year, from what I've seen. -
I agree with you. Bricklink's primary purpose was/is as a second-hand marketplace for LEGO and LEGO-produced material (like instruction booklets, sticker sheets, etc.). Custom and customised stuff isn't Bricklink's core. The manufacturers of third-party stuff can carry on selling their products on their own sites or wherever else they sold them, while people who sold third-party parts second-hand on Bricklink will have to move elsewhere, unfortunately for the small number of them. The real test will be if LEGO curtails people's ability to sell any sort of official LEGO product, such as banning the sale of Star Wars or Marvel minifigures, for example. If that happens, the writing will be truly and finally on the wall for Bricklink.

I see no LEGO in any of the pictures in that ad. Was the quality problem that the parts weren't invisible enough, but now they've achieved 100% invisibility?

DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion

Yikes! That's shockingly bad. Something I'm sure will be across all figures is the horrible printing for Metamorpho's white skin at the top of his torso. At this point, with the issue of light flesh and white (and sometimes yellow) not having enough opacity on certain colours like black, red and orange, LEGO must be aware and just not care to fix it. -

Where is a moulded Mushu or Little Brother!? That's all I want out of a Mulan set. Stylistically both look lovely though. -

Anyone is free to view things as they want, and yes LEGO internally has certain parameters for "changes" that include recolours and prints on pieces/Minifigures, but new moulds are still new moulds vs simply recolours. In general I'd say recolours in CMF are just standard and expected, while new moulds spark more immediate interest. A cool new hairpiece or minifigure accessory is slightly more exciting than a nice recolour of an existing one, at least to me personally, though recolours can be great too. It would be interesting to go through all of the CMF series and tally new moulds AND recolours, though quite a time consuming job. Especially since dual moulding was introduced, determining which arm and leg colour combinations are new beneath their prints and which aren't would require a very meticulous attention to detail. -

I count 10: Bumblebee's hair, Flash's helmet, Batmite's cowl, Cyborg's helmet, Batman's cowl, Cheetah's headgear, the lantern, Aquaman's hook hand, Stargirl's staff tip, and the clear posing piece that comes with all of them. It's certainly on the low end of new moulds, though not as low as the Batman Movie series 1 & 2 (aside: did 2 really have just two new moulds - a non-Friends Dolphin and the Soccer Mom Batgirl headgear?) -

Let's not get into discussing the movies please! A little drop of speculation about what the Wonder Woman sets might be is ok, though sets aren't always based off of trailer material as we saw with the Wonder Woman tie-in set last time. Re: the price increase, to me personally there's nothing about this series that seems worth a price hike. Price increases for the CMF line have outstripped inflation, so they can't just be chalked up to that. I think they're more LEGO seeing what they can get away with. Current series are certainly much more impressive in terms of the amount of printing, dual-moulding and detail compared to early ones, but there's nothing exemplary about the DC line. However, as Jangbricks has speculated on numerous times, it seems in the US especially RRP is being set to account for near constant discounts at the retailers. It seems like Target, Walmart and Amazon have at least a 20% off sale happening every other week. Even here in Australia the major retailers run small sales quite frequently, though of course the dollar amounts are much higher than the US to begin with and even after sales the prices tend to be above US RRP, and that's with the (currently terrible) exchange rate taken into account. -
I see no cause for concern. The first year of this reboot we had 5 HP System sets and 2 FB, for 7 total. This year we've also had 7 total. If the rumour was for more than one full wave, then that would sound like they were boosting things, but just more than 4 sets is perfectly in keeping with what they've been doing and IMO enough wiggle room to cover a good variety of material. Apart from a couple of cases of reused prints this year (I'm looking at you Krum), this line has been a dream come true thus far. Releasing just one(ish) modest wave a year in combination with the passion of the set designers on HP has delivered something truly special and I hope they keep up the great work.

For one thing, at least Episodes 4 and 5 haven't felt like video game levels the way 1-3 did to me. The plot feels a little bit more spontaneous and natural somehow. That said, I did have plot/story issues with 5 that detracted from my being able to enjoy it. A couple of things have already been clearly established: Baby Yoda doesn't like to stay put in the ship, and bounty hunters have tracking fobs that can track Baby Yoda literally anywhere. Mando tried a "backwater" planet - a bounty hunter found them in about a week. Episode 5 presumably picks up not too long after 4, and another bounty hunter is on their tail. So, clearly, the tracking fobs are an issue, and Mando knows it. Yet, he still sets down in a random spaceport, just closes the dang door on Baby Yoda as if that would do anything, and leaves him in the care of someone he doesn't know who has about zero levels of protection. WHY!?!? Mando doesn't seem to be an idiot, so why have him do something so idiotic? If they'd just had him, say, go to a friend/acquaintance on Tatooine who lives in a bunker or remote location, and put a couple of lines of dialogue acknowledging that leaving Baby Yoda there would be dangerous, I would've bought the rest of the episode as it was with him needing a job to make a bit of money for fuel etc. Also, throw in just one line of him telling his acquantance "I've really got to work out how to stop them tracking his location", because right now that's a big question on a lot of viewers' minds. As it is, the plotting is just poorly done, but I do hope it gets better in the last few episodes of the season.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Ah, so they did. I have found it. I think that's an early oopsie! Anyway, this Modular looks awesome. After several fairly angular ones, it's a breath of fresh air to see so much roundedness. It does look a tad small, but so very attractive, and nice to see them do another one with two seperable buildings. -

Sorry, where did these pictures come from? If they are not from an official channel, then they are leaks and need to be removed until LEGO gives the ok. -
I'm so excited for Black Widow*!!!! *This message was written in 2010. As it stands now, pass.

Love this! The building is a very clean build; the shaping and colouring, juxtaposed with the dark red trees, are striking and elegant. But - I'm not sure what it's supposed to represent? Is it your take on the Shrieking Shack? Or just a made up scene with the characters? I like seeing Harry Potter MOCs that aren't based on the films, since those are just one interpretation of course, but I'm not sure what you intended this to be and I'd love to know!

DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
The CMF series is a bit of an anti-climactic reveal, given that all of them already leaked, with their accessories to boot. I'm personally not too attached to any of these characters, so I think I'll just get Mr Miracle since I liked him in the late 80s Justice League International, and he's just got such a great, loud design. I'll probably also pick up one of the lanterns, primarily for the lantern piece itself, and maybe Bumblebee for her useful parts. This series for sure is not for everyone, but at least it's not quite as niche as TLBM Series 2. I'll be interested to see if a DC series becomes something semi-regular, or if it won't do well enough for that. -
It's getting all of the praise from people who are already into Star Wars, and that's primarily who is talking about it. Someone who has never seen Star Wars is either not watching it or doesn't care enough to post a comment/article/video about it. I have seen some web reviewers who clearly aren't huge SW fans, and they're in the same good/fine, not great boat as you. Trying to look at it objectively, The Mandalorian delivers on the core aspects that I think made people like the OT in the first place. None of the films are 10/10 in terms of originality with the story or writing in general, but they are in terms of world-building and commitment to their universe, with some endearing characters, memorable corny dialogue, and neat inventive designs. The Mandalorian absolutely delivers on the committed world-building, good designs (if nothing super new), and memorable corny dialogue. I'd argue that they've done well making the titular Mando more than the stoic guy trope, and making him endearing. Personally I found the second episode to be too much filler, but what it did do was show more of the Mando's personality and the fact that he's not invincible. Dude got bested by a bunch of Jawas (in a way that was totally plausible, to boot). Then he gets trashed by the beast. Plus, he seems a bit frazzled by the situation and over it. That's enough more than the Clint Eastwood man-with-no-name or Dirty Harry character to be interesting. Baby Yoda is just endearing because he's cute, but people love cute. I haven't loved every second, and for me the "I have spoken" and "This is the way" lines were too far into corny territory, but I like that they've gone with just fairly small fry adventures so far, showing a slice of life in the universe.

Well done! I love LEGO still-lifes like this. Fun presentation on actual wrappers too.

Trolls World Tour 2019 - Rumors & Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to leafan's topic in LEGO Licensed
Though it's exactly what I expected based on the previous teaser pictures, it's so nice to see it confirmed. LEGO really deserves props for the lengths they've taken to LEGO-ize these minifigs, as opposed to other themes like Angry Birds. I can't wait to see what weird and wonderful creations are made using these heads and hairpieces given their connection points. -
If the outcome of this sale is that LEGO finally rereleases that stupid freaking goat, I am so in. I don't care what else happens. More seriously, I was shocked, saddened, and ultimately troubled by this news like so many others. However, once Bricklink was out of the hands of fans whose primary reason for running it was being an AFOL, it was bound to be taken over by business interests eventually, or keep being disrupted by ownership changes. Perhaps LEGO is the only company that can ensure a stable future, even if the future doesn't look much like the Bricklink we knew in the past. Personally, I'm puzzled by LEGO's positioning of Bricklink as a fan community first, as if the marketplace was kind of a side note. I suppose in corporate speak Bricklink is too many things to neatly categorise, but I always viewed it as a really great fan-created and maintained reference catelogue, and a platform to buy and sell what we're all here for. The community aspects like the MOC system and forums, and the design software, seemed to me to be secondary fluff that's not really Bricklink's core function. The AFOL design program, while cool, also didn't make much sense to me, since it turned Bricklink into an entity in itself, and not just a platform for individuals to sell things. It's as if a flea market started selling you Flea-Market branded goods from corporate Flea-Market headquarters. Ultimately I hope LEGO doesn't get the wrong idea about what makes Bricklink important to AFOLs (though I suspect they will), and I hope they leave the marketplace and catalogue intact. If they don't, yes another platform out there will become the primary one, but the countless hours put into Bricklink's catalogue won't be easily or quickly redone.

I'm no big Ninjago fan and I only have a random smattering of sets, but that Gamer's Market certainly has my attention. Gee whiz Ninjago sure continues to deliver with amazing new concepts and designs. Sword hilts that are game controllers? What genius thinks up this stuff! Someone on Instagram noted that the Harumi outfit looks very, very much like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill. Not just similar, but literally the same details down to the style of the belt and colour and placement of the little patches. How interesting.

Yes! Yours wasn't a Yes or No question, but Yes. I absolutely loved the first episode in all its aspects. Blown away by the production value on it, great writing and performances, fantastic score, and I really appreciated the short run time which made it feel like a concise and rewarding watch (as opposed to some Netflix shows I've watched which feel so drawn out and padded to meet 50+ minutes per episode). However, I feel mixed on Episode 2. All of the above aspects were still there, but I wasn't too happy with an almost "filler" episode plot-wise. It reminded me of the most negative aspects of Clone Wars, which I think have been conveniently forgotten by everyone who looks back on Clone Wars as amazing in its entirety. With only eight episodes to The Mandalorian Season 1 and if they're all going to be around 30-35 minute mark, I expected theme each to propel the story forward. Still, it doesn't turn me off the show by any means, and after Clone Wars and Rebels, I am firmly in the "In Filoni We Trust" camp. Though the FBTB guys can be a bit too cynical for my taste, I've enjoyed and mostly agreed with Ace's episode recaps thus far. He raises some interesting points. They're worth checking out.

Eurobricks actually is a website where we pride ourselves, to a certain extent, on being "blinded by brand loyalty". That's not to say that criticism of LEGO is shut down, and in fact it's not at all. But, while we may take issue with LEGO's practices/decisions/designs/pricing etc., we should all have come here because we love LEGO and are drawn to it. Lepin is an illegal clone brand that steals designs from LEGO and from MOC designers and uses them for profit, illegally. As a LEGO fansite, we don't tolerate Lepin at all, nor do we tolerate any praise for Lepin. If actual LEGO isn't worth it to you, @Delta Walker, but an illegal clone brand is ok, I'm not really sure what you're doing on a LEGO site? @Lock isn't part of any official welcoming committee, but as a moderator here I suppose I am, so this has been my official welcome. Now, I hope this can get back to the productive topic at hand - modifying the LEGO Millenium Falcon.
