  1. A slew of new Harry Potter reveals always makes me giddy with excitement, and this has been no exception (even though all of the minifigures had been leaked already). It's been interesting to see everyone's varied thoughts on these. For me, the Clock Tower and Patronus sets are no-brainers. The Clock Tower has a great exterior to add to the Great Hall, and I doubt we'll ever see these variants of the minifigures again. The interiors are cramped and/or bare, and it's really a poor excuse for Dumbledore's office, but the set is mainly going to sit on a shelf next to the Great Hall so I can't complain too much. LEGO did do the Yule Ball sections exceptionally well. By the same token, the First Task and Knight Bus are easy passes. The Horntail looks dreadful to me, and I've never cared for the whole Triwazard Tournament anyway so I don't mind skipping the minifigures. The Knight Bus looks good, but I've just never been interested in the Harry Potter vehicles. The only set that's a toss-up for me is Hagrid's Hut. The build looks quite good, though I was taken aback at first by it not being enclosed. Buckbeak also looks great. On the other hand, I can live without Fudge and Macnair, who will probably have dreadful face printing anyway. No new Hagrid is expected but a shame, as is no Fang. Add in the fact that the price is likely going to be on the high side, and it's a difficult sell. I might just have to wait for a good sale, though in Australia generally the best that can be expected is a sale that brings the price within range of full US MSRP.
  2. I can't totally suss out the intention of this topic, but yes, please check out the Star Wars section: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/forum/86-lego-star-wars/ I'll lock this now.
  3. It's now the 24th here in Australia, and the first sessions will be finishing in a few hours and even sooner in New Zealand, so I reckon it's time for the shutdown to begin.
  4. Ok, I honestly have very little idea what it going on here, but we're here to discuss Harry Potter LEGO, not squabble about what people are doing in regards to leaks and namecalling. Eurobricks is not a place for that. If this keeps up, I'll put this thread in a 24-hour lockdown, which would be a real shame because there actually are things to discuss at the moment.
  5. I have a feeling that her hair will be a massive disappointment for anyone hoping it will be either new or closely resemble her actual movie look. It seems LEGO pulled out all the stops for the first new wave of Harry Potter to give it a proper kickoff, and now have fallen back to many of the compromises that we're used to with reused face and leg prints (though the leg print thing is clever), pre-existing hair moulds, etc. I personally would've preferred even just new face prints for Krum and the Hermione that we've seen over that Stag Patronus, and I don't see how kids will find a static trans-blue animal to be all that fun either. Certainly if Yule Ball Hermione turns out to have an ill-fitting hairpiece and/or there's no new Hagrid and/or no Fang (or an existing mould named Fang in the set), any of those should've been prioritised over the new stag in my opinion. All that said, I'm still quite grateful for what LEGO has done and is doing with this theme, as it's above and beyond the Wizarding World sets that have come before in all respects and honestly a dream come true that they're making new Harry Potter sets at all.
  6. These sets are pretty much based on the films, with perhaps a few nods to the books here and there. In the films there's no fleshed out description of inferi as I recall. There are just creepy lake monster people that start to come for Harry when he touches the water. But maybe I'm forgetting. Either way, they could 100% happen, because as people have pointed out, LEGO has no problem making lots of traumatic stuff in Licensed sets. Cedric being included in a graveyard scene is also completely possible. Anyone who thinks that LEGO has never made a set with an adult and a child who the adult murders need only turn their attention to the Star Wars sets with General Grevious and Nahdar Vebb, the latter of which is a Padawan who only appeared in one Clone Wars episode... in which he was murdered by Grevious.
  7. It's a pre-existing leg print, and the designers have cleverly designed these new torsos to match up with it.
  8. Why do you think so? It looks pretty good for a somewhat distressed or quizzical teenage Ron to me. Definitely displays personality better than the CMF one. I'm looking forward to seeing the other side as well.
  9. Great and extremely thorough review as always, WhiteFang! It's very interesting to see so many torsos back to being without the neck mark again. I loved that the LEGO Movie 2 series had moved to being mostly European-quality plastic, as opposed to the slightly duller Chinese plastic used in all series previously. I wonder if this series is more of a mix between the two. Just like with the first Disney series, despite feeling fondly toward many of these properties I'm just not very interested in the minifigures. I'll probably pick up Jack Skellington and Hercules because all of their parts look fun and useful, and maybe Elsa and Sally for the great hairpieces especially. Otherwise, I can give the rest a miss.
  10. Hi and welcome to Eurobricks! Your post is a little puzzling, as a regular retail set is hardly rare, nor is it a single piece, which is the topic of this discussion. I am also not sure why you have linked to Kidstuff - while it's a lovely Australian chain of stores, it doesn't have much to do with this either, so I am going to remove your link. Please take just a little time to review our site guidelines. We ask that everyone use English spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation to the best of their ability. Hope to see you around!
  11. I haven't yet found a single LEGO Movie 2 polybag near me in Australia. The again I don't even know if that DVD Blu Ray pack with the polybag will be available here
  12. That's gorgeous! I love the expression you've achieved on the face, and the simple touches to the landscaping really complement the soldier well.
  13. CMF parts are now presumably available because the LEGO Movie 2 line was partially made in Europe, so they have stock in a warehouse from which Bricks and Pieces orders are filled. All previous series were produced exclusively in China.
  14. To be honest it looks like the majority of people here are quite happy with this series, though maybe you are talking pure numbers and not percentage of people who are complaining. This is all of our hobby, so it's totally fair to not be satisfied with everything LEGO does, and call it out when it looks like they haven't used an opportunity to its fullest potential. There have been a few times that LEGO hasn't made characters from certain licenses, and then let the license go. While we have no reason to suspect that LEGO's run with Disney will end any time soon, it's not like Disney CMF are pouring out in droves either. To me personally, I have no idea what the most popular Disney franchises are with kids these days (besides Frozen), and I guess they know what they're doing with the triplets and Chip and Dale. I'm still solidly in the "Where's Goofy?" camp, and have no desire for any of the Disneytoon characters here. As for the rest, they're all well done, but most don't interest me despite me liking the properties and I'm trying to put my finger on why. It might be that the Disney animated movies and their particular styles are so stuck in my head that characters like Jasmine and Jafar will just never look right as minifigs. They're wearing the right outfits, but I still don't see the characters. They look to me more like humans in costumes, because I'm used to minifigs representing flesh and blood people, not animated characters with their own distinct style. I had the same issue with the first Disney CMF series. A secondary stylistic choice that I haven't loved since the first series is the fairly simple detailing style that LEGO has gone with, probably since the animated films themselves don't have too much detail or texture on the characters. On minifigs, it just comes across looking rather plain. Out of all of these, my top favourite would be Hercules since he has a lot of detail and good accessories (and I don't even like the animated film), and Elsa and Anna since I like the hairpieces and interesting capes, and they have usable parts for customising.
  15. Lovely colour blocking. It works quite well to convey they natural layers of rock. Is there any interior? The scene really makes me want to see what's inside!
  16. It is the final look as well, it's just that the actual materials used were all quite shiny and reflective so that in the movie scene the costume ends up looking even lighter and paler. LEGO doesn't have colours quite that pale, so I'm glad they went with the colours they did for the robes rather than going for silver-ish. Only the hat colour is a bit wrong.
  17. That is hilarious and awesome. I love how dynamic it is - your placement of the exploding wall pieces works so well. SpongeBob is definitely a way under-MOC'd theme. What piece did you use for Mrs Puff? Is it Duplo?
  18. We don't condone the purchasing of knock-offs on Eurobricks. End of story. What everyone does with their money is their business, but keep the promotion of buying knock-offs out of here. Thanks.
  19. Thanks so much for the correction, but this isn't a debate. We can have a chat privately. I'll refer everyone to the following items in our guidelines: It's really not difficult everyone, just follow the guidelines. Anyone else that wants to have a go can take it to this topic.
  20. To be fare you are not a moderator on this site, and to be fare for all of the people on here for whom English is not their first language, it's important to us that actual words are used, not abbreviations! We even have a very broad range of ages on Eurobricks, and you can be sure that not everyone knows what abbreviations mean. Therefore, yes worry if you're making light of the rules I am enforcing and not sticking to them. I'm not out to punish people, but our rules aren't just pulled out of thin air - there's a very good reason for everything.
  21. I've been letting it go a bit, but this is not a chat (I'd say not a chatroom but I don't know if those even exist anymore ). As per the site guidelines, please use full sentences and proper grammar to the best of your ability. This goes for everyone.
  22. Sometimes us MODs are busy - we're all just regular people volunteering to keep EB going and discussions sane. This discussion has unfortunately not been sane lately, and I do think a few people need a private talking to. At the same time, it's perfectly ok to hotly discuss LEGO's design choices as long as it stays civil and respectful, which at times it has and at times it hasn't in these last few pages. The fact that a discussion about a single minifig has gone in this long in and of itself isn't a bad thing - it's the way that it's been carried out that has been bad. For now I'll leave this as the one and only warning that if ANYONE devolves into rude language, name calling, or any other kind of disrespectful behavior, I will lock this thread until such time as a new piece of information becomes available to discuss. (Don't worry, I check Instagram religiously.) Finally, for the record it's pretty obvious to me that the Harry Potter fig is the in-the-tent version in the hoody, before he puts the outer cloak on. The reason the chest V looks the same as Cedric is because Cedric wears the exact same style of hoody underneath the outer cloak, and the outer cloak itself has a wider V-neck than the hoody, so both V-necks are visible with the outer cloak on.
  23. Hehe, these are awesome! I haven't seen enough people playing around with the Unikitty parts, and as you've shown they can make for a lot of fun. Those cubed ones look so awkward, but I love it.
  24. Might this be what we call... a false alarm? Oh well, the pics will come eventually because eventually these products will be on shelves!
  25. What account or tag? I can't turn up any
