LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What would be wrong with a slight upgrade on 10144? That set came out ages ago and was already massive to begin with. With the newer UCS X-Wing to go on, it looks like LEGO is fine with producing new versions that are roughly the same size as the original, just with newer and better building techniques. I don't think a LEGO sandcrawler really needs to be much bigger than the previous version, and it's overdue for an update even at that size. -

Seeing that video review, the Scout helmets are still laughably large, but they don't look too terrible. The speeder also looks very nice; sure it might be a miniaturized version of bigger vehicle, but it's a heck of a lot more cohesive than a lot of the dumb builds we've seen in battle packs over the years. The blasters seem to work very well. I get why people, as AFOLs, dislike them, but they seem to shoot with plenty of force and should be a ton of fun, unlike flick-fires which are nearly impossible to operate and just fall limply to the ground anyhow. Could LEGO have included regular moulded blasters as well? Maybe. But these still look like a cool new play feature that really isn't too intrusive. (The only downside is a LOT of lost studs.) -
Nope, it was mentioned a couple pages back.I haven't seen much talk about the fact that Electro appears to have trans-blue arms and head. That will make him just the second figure ever to have trans-arms, and the first to offer both arms in a trans-color. Even if you don't like that look for Electro, his parts are still pretty cool.

Very nicely done! Your presentation is always brilliant. I'm leaning a little bit towards preferring your second speed line. Trans-pieces are just so pretty. The effect here is nice as well, though it did take me a couple seconds to register that it wasn't a wall. It still is a fun effect, though.

I was skeptical in the same way when I read that, but then again those elements can hardly be called a 'new twist' since they were all present in the Fantasy Era Castle line. That would only be new in relation to Kingdoms, but Kingdoms also had princesses in need of rescuing and wizards. This could hint at an actually new twist.

Those Spidey sets do look dull indeed. I suppose the Doc Ock one is nice because it's got a classic Ock, and the truck is good and all, but still a truck. All I can think seeing the Green Goblin is that he will be useful to Castle builders… As for the Avengers sets - great figures, '90s style sets. That 'lab' looks like it came straight out of Town Jr. and the Hydra tank isn't much better. The minifigures are so awesome, though, that it can be forgiven. The lab is a must-buy despite its short-comings as a set.

Homer and Ned work out because their facial hair covers up their mouths, but Lisa and Marge just look freaky. The lips are totally weird, and the eye-style makes them look… odd.

Another difference between the two guns is that the longer-barrel version was cast in hard plastic, while the original Batman version was soft and the handle would flake off. They did a similar thing with the Tommy gun - the Batman version was soft, and they later redid it in hard plastic. No idea why, though. I'd really love to see that smaller gun come back. Even if it was a created for a retro vibe, it still makes a lot more sense than the annoying Alien Conquest gun that LEGO now gives to every character ever.

Is that key chain for real? If so… laziest license ever? But really, Top Gear would just be another Licensed direction for what are basically Racers sets. Ferrari has been nice, but now it's kind of done to death - what more can they do besides ANOTHER F1 car and ANOTHER truck? (Well, they could actually do the Ferrari normal-people cars in minifig scale, but I guess that's not on their radar.) Top Gear would boil down to more new cars but with a brand slapped on the boxes. Kids love cars, and some people love branding, so it seems like a tolerable marriage of things to me.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Unless you mean the Police bots that feature in some episodes (but not the ones where this Gunship appears), there are no Coruscant police officers. The Shock Troopers make sense. Also, there is an extended chase in those episodes that involves just the gunship, shock troopers, Anakin, and Ahsoka. So, though other figs could've easily been added to this set, for once they aren't exactly 'missing.' Honestly, with a ship that's at least different and has some lovely parts (that trans red), two lovely Shock Troopers (who are generic so they can actually be useful), plus two versions of main characters that are not very common, I think the Gunship is a nice set. One more figure would've been great, but I find what we do get to still be quite nice. -
I've merged the topics. Carry on! I'll just weigh in by saying - coming out with a 'just first two films' game seems like a rather cheap move. It's just goading people into buying more than is really necessary, since LEGO will surely come out with another version that includes the final film, like they did for Indiana Jones. I don't see how there could really even be enough gameplay with the story from just these two, unless the story is stretched really far. After all, the whole LotR trilogy made one nicely-sized game. Now that they add exclusive figures, lots of people will definitely buy this one, even though the exact same gameplay will most likely be incorporated into a future game. Great job LEGO/Tt.

Wow, finally a proper Palpatine after roughly 15 years. Hooray! He looks terrific, even though that might be the most wrinkle-printing ever. Those Shock Troopers look beautiful. I generally hate the new Phase II helmet, but somehow those guys pull it off. -
It almost looks like it should have wheels on the bottom and convert into a Bat-dragster. It looks like a dragster to me in folded mode. That would actually be cool - drive along and then pop convert into a plane.I don't think the actual set has wheels, though, so it is strange.

Oh man. I haven't really dug any Star Wars sets for a while (though I've bought a few), but man that Gunship is great. It was such an ugly, mashed-together ship in the show too, but LEGO has made it look great and the figures are superb. Sure, they could've added Wolffe or Ventress, but those Shock Troopers are the best looking use of the terrible helmet I've seen, and I'm glad there's another chance to get the updated Ahsoka. That's a buy. The only downside figs-wise is… they really couldn't give Anakin a new face? I'm glad I have the Freeco Speeder for his angry face, but honestly they need to give him another face than that smile. Oh well. -
Hmm, some nice stuff minifigs-wise in this wave, and a couple of missteps. The Scuba Bats would've been the perfect opportunity to give Bats a new, different third mouth expression for his alternate first, but it's the same old boring one. And Robin with short legs… why? I don't know about others, but for me personally I'd rather get longs legs and a long cape. Long capes are just so much more useful. The amount of different Robins also just doesn't make sense. Including the Arkham variant, this makes four (not including Nightwing). That said, other minifigs like the Juniors Batman and Robin, fur-coat Penguin, Nightwing, Flash, Batgirl, and even new-outfit Joker are incredibly awesome.

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion
Clone OPatra replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Except... they know it's his dad and say so multiple times. I'm not saying that I don't find some of the comments video reviewers make annoying as well, but you needn't make them out to be idiots and assume they will not know what they are talking about 100% of the time. The Brick Show especially has shown a lot of progression over time and tends to try and know what they are talking about these days.- 7,499 replies

I'm with you there. Though I hated Man of Steel and don't have much hope of liking this movie, it still seems odd to cram this many characters into it this early in the game. It seems more like a worn out third-sequel move to introduce so many.Maybe DC is trying to play it out as the opposite of Marvel's strategy - introduce many characters in bit parts and THEN make single-character films, instead of Marvel's plan of single films leading to a team-up movie. We'll see if it works, but with DC's track record and knowing who is behind this film, I doubt it will.

The fact that many of the pieces appear in these particular colors ONLY in these sets debunks that theory. I don't think LEGO makes sets to use up old stocks. Also, the simplification came around the middle of the 2000s decade, not 2001, as I recall.

It's a shame that DC can't make good movies, because I think Flash would be perfect for a film. His powers might be too much for a TV show, but for an hour and a half or two hour dose they would be just fine. Especially Wally West, who I always found very dynamic in his '80s comics, could make a great movie. But alas, DC does not know how to handle its properties very well most of the time.

Those sets might have been zany, but they were also terrific! Lots of wonderful parts in cool colors, and for a low price at the time. What's not to like? I honestly liked those better than a lot of the drab sets of the first couple HP waves, but then again my LEGO preferences always skew towards bright colors.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors
Clone OPatra replied to Erdbeereis's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The only thing 'new' about this wave is that there are more sets in each price category than before. If you take a look at the winter waves for the last five years, you'll see that they always top out with a $60-price-range set and always contain some small sets. There's nothing new about this at all. Now LEGO has just added more sets with 3! battle-pack price-range sets plus a replacement line for the planet sets, and also 3 in the 25-30 price range. And all this hollering about 'just minifigures' is nonsense. Did you notice the Jedi Interceptor, V-Wing, Wheel Bike (which very much needed an update), plus rumored Tri-Fighter and Police Gunship? All of those are barely MF-centric at all. If you don't like PT stuff, it's understandable that this wave is a bit of a let down, but there's nothing new in terms of 'market strategy' going on here. And don't worry, since this time next year we'll be seeing a wave full of stormies and new random Rebels things, I'd bet. -
I concur; there seems to be enough characters for role playing. Each scene besides the Cinderella carriage has the proper characters, and LEGO never puts as many Minidolls in sets as they do Minifigures.I really can't see them doing villains, at least for a long while. These sets are about happiness and romance, not conflict. Hence it being Rapunzel's Tower of Creativity instead of Rapunzel Tower Breakout - 'Blast apart the tower walls with the explosion mechanism and flick fire the missiles at Rapunzel and Flynn as they flee. Will they escape Rapunzel's evil mother Gothel? Only you can decide!' Hopefully LEGO works its way to doing villains since they have cool designs in most of these movies, but I can't see it happening.

I'd say horses and horse-related sets are the Friends equivalent of Police and Fire in City. LEGO just keeps doing them (and if you look at LEGO's girl-oriented lines over the years, they always have). The non-horse sets look pretty cool, though. I wonder why the Friends never seem to interact anymore- they're always hanging out with more and more of their different friends than with each other.
-
Besides for the fact that all of the Princess faces look identical, these sets look great. Sure, there's a wall piece here and there, but no more so than in a Castle theme. I see lots of detail everywhere, and the colors are lovely. They also nailed Flynn Rider. His expression looks perfect!

I'm fairly certain CMF figures have leaked out before. I think even as recently as Series 11 a few pictures popped up before the figures were out in stores, so anything could happen. Regardless, this figure makes me confident that the line will give us some awesome mf prints, even if the heads are slightly strange. Those torso and leg prints on Flanders look terrific, and plenty useful for making purist custom figs.
