Just to clarify, free hits also take armor into account correct?
-
If only Gurnam the Loan Sharks stall was always available. I can see it now, "Heroica Hall declares bankruptcy new Casino Complex to be developed on existing site." Seriously though I believe the same system would work between the players as long as each one had enough to back up their wagers, however I could not forsee an NPC coming in with a large purse just to gamble away so all the gaming would probably be done between players.

I'm usually on and could mediate, but I think Sandy has expressed disapproval of fighting in the hall, that's not really the purpose of the thread. Sure there can be arguments and even slight scuffles, once in a while a charging shuriken throwing crusader, but the hall isn't for mass combat (neither is the training room for that matter). To quickly end this for you, the results are as follows, note since cralegoboy didn't include Alf's action I started the round over. Alf versus Arthur - Critical Hit Arthur versus Alf - Critical Hit Arthur takes 8 damage knocking him out. I know you are all anxious for some action, but you just need to be patient. Perhaps you could play a game, there have been two shown thus far in the quests. Either that or find something really worth discussing, you can develop your characters outside of fighting. If you must fight I would suggest doing it via role playing and not utilizing the battle system as that can easily clog up the thread with needless formalities. I love all of your characters guys, just try and do some development the good ol' fashioned informal way.

Heroica RPG - Quest#19: Let's Start a Riot

OoC: Just noticed, if Tensi rolled special damage on round 2, shouldn't everyone from the front row have receieved damage during that round? -
Well Haldor doesn't seem to be hitting squat after you, so I thought maybe if he went first to protect you he might actually hit something

Skrall breaths heavily, he hadn't shot that fast in quite a while. "Good (huff) job (huff) all. Keep at 'em." Feeling slightly recovered he takes aim at Caravan Soldier P drawing his crossbrow taut from the back row. With Wren's voice wringing in his ears he quickly loads another bolt and targets Caravan Soldier Q from the back row as well. "I guess we better be finishin' up here, seems like grouchy pants is goin' to start sendin' more of a challenge our way soon. Haldor, you get in Jess's way one more time and Tarok help me I will feed ya to the pogs myself, she can do just fine on her own, now attend to yer own target. Han's if ya think ya can still manage, see if you can finish off that other bombardier chap near the end of the column." Battle Order: Hans Tensi Hoke Skrall Dyric Haldor Jess OoC: I'm assuming that Dyric's second roll resulted in Damage but if you could include the other roll struck through, that would be great. Thanks for putting up with such a long battle thus far. -

"Alrighty then, Hans if you could watch our backs from that new captain we'll see if we can finish off some more of 'em." -
Hate to be a party pooper, but is battling using the combat systems aloud in the Hall thread? I'm all fine if you two want to roleplay a fight in the hall, but I think it came up before that we want to save formal battles for quests only. If you do decide to fight using the combat system, why not roll a die yourselves and just be honest in your rolls? Afterall you're not going to gain experience, so there isn't really any reason to cheat. Just to let you know Arthur, there are no cleric available at the hall at the moment as all the active ones are on quests to my knowledge so you may be bruised after the fight for quite awhile:wink:

Seeing Dyric drawing between Soldier I and his drawn crossbow, Skrall quickly shifts his second target to Caravan Soldier M from the back row. -
Hmm... sounds like quite a conundrum. I think I can speak for the players here in that should a player go MIA they are usually either kicked out by the party or replaced by someone in the hall depending upon the QM. But as I said before most quests are usually not solely dependent upon certain characters for plot development but I can see where your problem is coming from. As a player of no other RPG outside of this one, I guess my only advise would be to turn them into a NPC if you are sure they won't be returning and if they do just hand control back over, you can't detract from your other player's experience based solely upon the possible return of another player. That's my logic but like I said, I don't RP outside of Heroica so I may not be as attached to my characters as some other people might be. Regarding Heroica, I expect that you shouldn't have this issue, most people are willing to put up with a quest for a month sometimes two in special cases. If you extend beyond that without prior warning you may encounter the problem of losing interest as most players want to try new things.

Now this is the question of the age, you'll find that we are a mixed bag in Heroica, some people enjoy the RP aspect, some people enjoy the gaming/winning/looting aspect, so it can really be dependent upon who you choose to be in your quest. A good tip is to look through previous quests or observe the Hall thread and see how different people interact that way you can sort of see how they would be in a quest together. As far as encouraging interaction within quest, I find it's sometimes best to throw in puzzles or riddles that have to be solved outside battle, this forces parties to go beyond declaring an attack and battle stance and really put their heads together. However riddles, puzzles, and dreaded anagrams (another introduction by Zepher) may not be everybodies cup of tea, so that may effect how much your players actually contribute. As Sandy has said before, Heroica is meant to be a simple RPG that people can get into without needing to spend a whole lot of time or effort and that's exactly what it is, some people post every single hour, some people only post every other day, sometimes even less. It's not really hard core gaming, but it is what you make of it. Zepher's Quest #7 is the first instance of PCvPC battles so you may want to take a look at that quest or ask him what he thought ot it. As far as having players on different sides (I'm assuming in a Prison Gaurd vs. Prisoner scenario) it may be rather difficult as most heroes get along outside of the quests and unless there was coercion involved or really good story play, which you may have thought out already, it would be difficult to handle in character. If you are referring to PC's then the general trend thus far has been to wait at least 24 hours and if the player is traveling or other things have come up, usually the PC will hand their player over to the party leader while they are gone. Additionally, there haven't been too many quests that are significantly dependent upon one player, perhaps you could clarify a little more. Hope this helps.

Heroica RPG - Quest#19: Let's Start a Riot

Hans voice rung true in Skrall's ears "He's right, there is no chance of us ever winnin' this fight, only endurin'," he thought to himself. He grimaced at the limbs and incinerated corpses that remained in the aftermath of the bombardment, "well, no one ever said heroing was goin' full of be kicks and grins. Nice work all. Ms. Hightribe watch out there's another bloke as big as the last one comin' over the ridge leadin' the charge. See if you can take 'im out, we'll take care of this wounded one." Tensi seemed to ignore him completely as she continued to hammer away at the wounded captain. "Sod berserkers! Mr. Ablesword would you mind greetin' that new captain with a show of yer steel? Dyric with your luck, you may have a chance to stop that weakish lookin' chap with the encouraging trumpet before he sounds it. Jess I do believe I saw that rather powerful lookin' trooper carryin' the bombs, mockin' yer Haldor a moment ago. Hans you're with me, try and stop that sword twirlin' pansy at the back of the line while I eliminate his squeemish friend with the explosive. Any questions?" Skrall sets himself to the task of finishing off his targets and quickly loads and fires a bolt at Caravan Soldier N before loading another and shooting Caravan Soldier I both from the back row. Battle Order: Tensi Hans Hoke Dyric Jess Skrall Haldor -
I'm not quite sure what you're getting at, if you want to refer to past quests as books that's entirely up to your character. As far as attaining information about the current quests in character, some have already solved that problem, i.e. En Sabeh Nur skried some of the heroes from past quests to see how they were doing.

Skrall ensures that his position is safe in the back row behind the roaring Tensi and the charging Hans and Haldor. -
I believe the convention has been that special damage rolls that effect all the party members also take into account those players using items and their specific rows. You are right that we should specify which rows we are using items from as Tensi may roll special damage doing half to those throwing bombs in the back and full to whoever is in the front. I will specify so in thread.

Skrall is somewhat confused, he had originally thought that at the beginning of the battle, that any bombs the party would throw would have a radius of effect about the size of a contingent of 6 soldiers, but for some strange reason a subconscious part of him was saying only 5 would be within the range. Edit: Suddenly the fog clears and Skrall is sure that given the trajectory, wind speed, and the percent humidity within the air, a thrown bomb will hit 6 targets. OOC: Now I'm unconfused. -

Skrall sees Dyric prepare to lob his bomb at the soldiers. "Dyric you can target 1 more soldier, I would suggest takin' out Caravan soldier C as well. It looks like bombs away, so Jess and Hoke let 'em have it. Hans, see if you can get rid of that encouragin' troop I over there, we don't want 'im rallyin' his companions." Skrall reaches into his satchel and removes his lightning bomb, with a grunt he hurls the contraption at Caravan Soldiers B, C, F, G, H, and J. Seeing Dyric moving slower from his wounds Skrall also uses a potion on Dyric. Battle Order: Skrall Tensi Dyric Hoke Jess Haldor Hans OOC: We aren't bombing the Captain, Tensi will take care of him on her own. If the rest of you can make sure you target Soldiers B, C, F, G, H, and I with your bombs, we can hopefully wipe these guys out. And I think you mean 6 targets not 5, oh voice in the sky. Correct? -

"Alright chaps, I've got two stratagies, we can either take each of these fellows one by one or we can clear this troop here and now. If we should go with the latter plan then listen closely. Hoke, Jess, Dyric and myself shall all throw bombs this turn wiping out soldiers B, C, F, G, H, and J. Haldor and Hans shall finish off soldier I and Ms. Hightribe will eliminate their leader. What say ya all, shall we employ this daring plan?" OOC: Was Dyric's Loaded die taken into account during the last round? -
This is how I resize mine Photo resize tutorial. The general size for avatars is 100 by 100 pixels. Hope this helps and welcome aboard.

Hans leading the charge, Skrall barks out the plan of attack. "Hans if you can make quick work of that bomb totin' soldier, I'd be appreciative. Ms. Hightribe finish off that captain as quick as ya can. The rest of ya choose yer targets wisely, we need to finish off each of these blokes before another six arrive next round. Haldor, keep that burly chap at the end busy we don't want him inspirin' his mates." With that Skrall loads a bolt into his crossbow and sights Caravan Soldier B down the quarrel from the Back Row. Feeling full of energy he also holds another bolt in his hand preparing to fire a second shot at Caravan Soldier D from the Back Row as well. Battle Order: Hans Tensi Skrall Jess Dyric Hoke Haldor -

Excellent addition CptMugwash, I'm loving the diversity that we're seeing among the mummy figures with the Tomb Kings in the far South, the Mountain Mummies in the East, and now these excellent Ninja Mummies. Keep up the good work -
As Skrall would probably comment, "Marriage ain't all it looks like chaps, things are fine fer the first few years, then baby ogres come along and then it's nothin' but "Honey, get that" and "Honey, take this" it's maddenin' I say. Lovin' is almost as difficult as bein' a hero."
