Yeah, the Lucustoids hail from the deserts of Abra, and are a scholarly locust-like race. We'd probably know more about them if a certain Norseman finished up and posted his race index. Edit: Darkdragon also had the Greedo figure in her quest, but only descriped it as reptillian. To my knowledge neither of the last two heads have been utilized yet.

I've got to agree there, but the Party didn't even keep the bribe.

Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job
Waterbrick Down replied to Scubacarrot's topic in The Heroica Archive
Skrall stows the grand potion in his satchel. "Thanks yer Majesty. Now then, I'd feel like a proper introduction at some point might be in order perhaps over some sushi. I know Ms. Nyx and Atramor here, his highness has quite the reputation in the hall, but you two," Skrall glances at the Druid and Cleric, "I have not had the pleasure of bein' acquainted with yet, though both of yer healin' powers are well appreciated." -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Waterbrick Down replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Yeh, I'll see if I can work those changes in, I agree that it originally seemed a little plain, but the point was to create a class that excelled early on in the battle, especially against legions of minions, giving up longevity for sheer power. Now that we've seen more of the advanced classes in action as well as the defined expert and master classes, I'm going to do a revamp of some of my earlier proposals to bring them up to speed and balance. I can see it now, there will be a rule for the class where you have to include the word "Slayer" in your name... Atramor Rat Slayer Agreed I'll look at the numbers more. -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

I really don't mind someone building on the Artificer, this is just a more offensive take on the support role. Perhaps having a shield is too much for the Spellblade? You could have the PC themselves imbued with the resistive element and that would bring some more distinction/balance to the class. I can see your point between having to choose whether to cast a spell or imbue, I think it's an ability that would be utilized more pre-battle rather than right in the middle of a fight. I still think more people would be prone to just use a spell rather than imbuing even if you have the chance to do 2x as much damage in the long run, partially because you're also more prone to take more damage in the front row. Anyways, on to another class idea, this one inspired by Jeb's Zealot class: Slayer Health Bonus: +12 Weapons: Long Swords, Axes, Scythes, Halberds, Daggers Job traits: Efficient – Slayers are killing machines and are thus able to exploit weaknesses in their enemies’ defenses thus ignoring enemy SP. Unencumbered – Slayers never wear armor as they are solely focused on taking down as many enemies as quickly as possible, thus they are hastened if placed first in the battle order, yet cannot benefit from SP bonuses. Intimidation (see Berserker) Battle style: Callous – Slayers take no compassion on their enemies, rejoicing instead of cowering when the odds are against them as it only means the body count will be higher. 1. SHIELD: Ruthless Rampage: - The Slayer attacks all enemies with strength equal to their weapon power added to their level multiplied by the number of enemies in the battle in addition to weakening all of them for the next round. 2. GREATER MERCILESS HIT: The Slayer attacks the target with strength equal to two times their weapon power multiplied by the number of enemies in the battle added to their level. 3. MERCILESS HIT: The Slayer attacks the target with strength equal to their weapon power multiplied by the number of enemies in the battle added to their level. 4. MERCILESS AIM: The Slayer attacks the target with strength equal to their weapon power multiplied by the number of enemies in the battle. 5. DAMAGE: The Slayer is struck by the opponent's attack. 6. SPECIAL DAMAGE: The Slayer is struck by the opponent’s special attack. Flavor Text: Slayers are heavily practiced in the art of ending life. They are skilled in many forms of close combat, but prefer slicing and cutting their enemies to ribbons over bludgeoning them. Most Slayers have made a name for themselves as clearers of dungeons, or caverns, or the odd haunted castle or two -
Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion

While I like the concept there's a few snags, at first glance it seems like a more offensive version of the artificer class I introduced a few pages back but I'm glad to see the imbuing concept resurface. My only question is why bother imbuing your weapon when you can attack from the back row with spells at full strength? While it helps to conserve ether, if one is an advanced class, your going to have plenty of it anyways, and since it takes 3 ether to imbue something that's three spells you could have shot off in the mean time. I found with the Artificer the only way to avoid this and make them focused on imbuing is to get rid of spell casting, which by the way you need another job trait as you currently only have 2. All in all, the defensive aspect is good, but there's really no reason to offensively use the imbuing. -
You're welcome, don't think you are limited by what Sarge's personality is currently. Like I've said you've got a whole 15 levels to shape it. My opinion is that one can role-play almost any PC into almost any class if one really works at it. For example, I would never have pictured En Sabah Nur as a Battle Mage, but he accomplished the transition beautifully, same with Atramor in becoming a Witch. Both are great examples of players incorporating the scenarios encountered by their PC's into their actual class decisions.

Ask Flipz for the full analysis in private but here goes: Raider: Offensively based, good at bringing in the gold and dealing out the damage. Black Knight: Defensively based, you have access to shields and an amazing special against humanoid based enemies. Witch: Defensively based specialist, you are focused on screwing up the enemy by either hexing them or using your special mirror while at the same time your poison and healing capabilities make you somewhat a supporting role. You get in, poison the enemy, and get out. Compounded on top of that you can use scrolls giving you more flexability. Sorcerer: Offensively based specialist, you can still bring in the gold and cripple enemies with your shield as well as cause a whole lot of trouble with Confuse. You also have access to scrolls and gems, which are a little harder for original non-mage classes to attain. Assassin: Offense 1 hit KO specialist. Admit it, who doesn't like killing enemies in one hit, plus you have access to ranged weapons that don't need to be retrieveable. You also get a good amount of gold from your special as well. You can take your character in any of these directions, you've got a whole 15 levels to develop their personality and how they respond to the situations encounter. When choosing Skrall's advanced class, the only stipulation I had was that he wouldn't use ether, the rest I left up to the effects quests and other players had upon him. But all of this depends on your gaming style whether you are strictly a role-player and are more concerned about your character's story, or if you are a gamer concerned mainly with stats and min/maxing your characer to the best they can be.

Thanks for the thoughts, they're pretty accurate. The sword is more of a role-playing thing and I only use it when there is either an advantage to it or it is called for in the role-play, or I think it would be totally awesome to have Skrall wading into the thick of battle mowing down enemies with his broadsword. I'm not too keen on all classes having access to SP as I feel it blurs the distinct lines between class strengths which is why I try to stay away from it, but others can argue the opposite side of the spectrum and I can see the need for it if I want Skrall to do some more close combat.

That's what I've been thinking, if this was all true an encouraged critical hit from my Hunter's Crossbow (if it were imbued with a ruby) wearing the Hunter's Quiver against a fragile beast/plant type monster that I had marked, would equal a hit of: (((11+2+4)x2)+21)x192 = 10560 damage
-
I've been thinking, so as far as having the ultimate strike modifier, you could have as much as x16 a specific type (beast/plant monster using a ruby or opal imbued blade for instance) from an elemental attack, 3x for marking the favored if you're a Hunter, 2x for being encouraged, and 2x for attacking a fragile enemy, resulting in a grand total of x192 normal strength. Also out of curiousity Sandy, if a Hunter with the Hunter's Quiver marks two types, humanoid and aquatic for instance, are they effective against both when they face a humanoid/aquatic monster thus doing x6 damage, or is it the normal x3?
-
I have to agree, fragile is basically like having all your party members encouraged against a specific target, as opposed to having a single player being encouraged against all his targets.

Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job

OoC: Skrall favors Humanoids, plus his Hunter's Quiver increases his WP. Skrall pleased that the Naga is almost taken care of, turns his attention to the annoying crab. Unsheathing Leojagd, Skrall rushes the crab from the front row, intent on splitting its shell in half. "First I'm a greenskin now a sir and a lord, didn't think it was possible yer majesty. Are ya sure ya didn't take too hard of a blow from that Snakelin'?" -

OoC: I don't think my damage was subtracted from my health this last round. "Figures," Skrall mutters to himself under his breath. Still wincing from being slapped by a halibut, Skrall unloads another quarrel at the Naga from the back row. -

Skrall took a step back from the Naga, "Well well, this dinner bites back. Atramor see if ya can summon us up somethin' a little more helpful than a lump of lettuce next time. Yer Majesty, I believe the young magey miss, could do without yer healin' fer right now. Either attend to yer wounds or if ya've got some time and ya can sacrifice yer pride for the good of the company, I could use a healin' as well." Skrall reloaded and fired again at the Naga from the back row with his Hunter's Crossbow. -

Skrall excuses himself from the sailor. Noting that he can't reach Atramor in time, he draws his Hunter's Crossbow and fires off a shot at the Angry Naga from the back row. "I wasn't exactly in the mood fer seafood, but ya'll do." -
Go ahead and read the first post of this topic, it has some really helpful info as far as character development. Go ahead and fill out these forms as may help you define your character. See if answering these questions for yourself leads Jon in a certain direction. The above is in spoilers simply to prevent Wall of Text syndrome; I highly recommend it for all players. If you're just starting a character, you may want to fill out this slightly different version of the form, though this form can be useful for established characters as well:

"Well then, it looks like we're goin' to have to keep our wits about us then won't we. Are ya familiar with any of the leading officials in the city by any chance names or titles or such. Ya said that the Viscount has been dead for a number of years, but are there any court officials or anyone ya might have heard of?" -

"Stay calm we're takin' over the ship" Someone randomly calls out, "Aye Avast!" Skrall returns to the man, "Just kiddin' Mr. Skaldson. I was informed ya've traveled to our destination before. What is your appraisal of the fair city of Strivvi?" -
Hey, you'd be surprised how many unruly and drunk PC's we've had in the past.
-
It takes a little patience. Most of the quest generally have a closing date for sign-ups and then start fairly quickly. You've just jumped in when most of the active players are currently on a quest. Believe me we've had time when the hall was bursting with PC's waiting to be picked and other times when it was a bit slow. However the slow times are when players actually show their commitment to the game and are more often picked in the long run.
-
It's actually interesting seeing all this play out in the quest 44 thread. Quest 28's version was all in PM which makes me wonder if they (the players) might have responded differently had they been in the public. I am curious as to how many of my previous questies figured out that they all were interacting with the same beggars behind the scene?

"I'm assumin' the rest of the Bonapartes tend to be less laid back? Well it's good to hear this boat's in good hands and all that. I've only been on a ship a few times and most often was stowed in the hold, but I ain't mindin' the sea air too much. Ya said the sleepin' fella's been to Strivvi before? I'll see if he's in any mood for a chat. He got a name?" Skrall moves over to the sleeping sailor and gingerly attempts to wake the man. -

Skrall chuckles, "No offense taken my good man, though if ya try and run a dagger through me, we'll be havin' words. 30 years ya say? Ya must have seen quite a bit of action, were all those put in on the Armory? What are yer thoughts on the dear Captain?"
