Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
Waterbrick Down replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
The place generally to start is to think about something like a stereotype your class fits into and then develop a stat niche into where they fit. You need to give your class a reason people would want to play as it and figure out specifically what role they would play in a Party. Once you have that role and stat strength in mind, then you start crafting the rolls, shield special, abilities, HP and Ether bonus to make them embody that role. For examples: Jeb's Harlot, is an etherless stat inducing role that focuses on hurting and causing confusion among enemies over the long term. Scuba's infiltrator class, is an offensive class that works best in Parties of the same nature (i.e. offensive classes). -

I'll say more later, but great job TPRU. This is one of my most favorite games that I have played in here on EB, even if it did have a rather sad ending for me. The presentation, story, characters, humor, and everything was fantastic. Just one quick question, was there a mechanic that revealed Hinckley's sleeping and Fugazi's specific killing action during the Night 1 and 2 recaps? -

It's the one from the Viking CMF, which I believe it is this one. -
Heroica RPG - Quest #40: The Strivvian Job

With the ghost gone, Skrall slipped off the hood storing it away and replaced the dabloon in his pocket. "Let's get movin'." -
Cannoneer is the suggestion I've been hearing, after all she is a Bonaparte.

Generally it's considered common courtesy to not give heroes hints on ongoing puzzles or riddles, unless specifically requested by the QM. If you really want to know if you've got the right answer, go ahead and PM the QM.
-
That is because you play this game with more of a story emphasis, however we do not all play Heroica RPG in this manner and I believe that some of the richness of this game is derived from its vast spectrum of players. If everyone is playing to "gain moar power" then it would not be inconsiderate, but expected. I put my stake in the free market style of the game. If you don't like someone's play style then it is your free choice to not interact with their character or sign up for/select players for a certain quest for which they are partaking in. If enough people don't like a certain play style then it will eventually go into decline and vice versa. In the meantime we strive for some compromise between stat and story players in order to continue an enjoyable gaming experience for both.

That's my point. Checks and balances. My point is that when it comes to wisdom, I think Nerwen is more wise than Guts, or many of the other characters for that matter. As a player I somewhat recoil at this, but as Skrall I would have to agree. Now this doesn't mean that Guts just hands the book over to Nerwen, because while she may be more wise (and I understand that it is a statless quality), Guts I believe holds more strongly to his beliefs due to some of his more tragic experiences and this allows his argument to be on par with hers and not seem like two players arguing whose is the better decision, but two characters arguing whose is the better decision. Please do not take this as me trying to dictate what Guts should do, Scuba, you play him superbly and I wouldn't have anyone else doing it. You as a player do not allow any potential trust of Chromeknight or anyone, to influence Gut's trusting of Nerwen or anyone else, which I think is an excellent quality among many other things.
-
I agree, you can count me in. It's about time consumables and clerics were given the credit they deserve. I'm backing Nerwen in this. Some people make decisions to play characters that have aspects about them that set them apart from others, this includes wisdom. Chromeknight is allowed to make a character that is wiser than most, just as you are allowed to make a healer that is more barbarian than most. Unless you want to start having wisdom, charisma, and knowledge stats I say we just let it be as it will take care of itself. Honestly when it comes to these statless qualities, I'm usually more willing to let players get away with it as long as it's within reason in game even when as a player out of game I don't want them to show up my character. For instance if Nerwen discusses learned things with Skrall, even though he's had a bit more education than most Ogres, I'd conceed that she was smarter than him and play along accordingly. However there are other statless attributes that may also be taken into account for how he would react, for instance stubborness, conviction, or bias. However if Skrall were to challenge Nerwen to an arm wrestling match (not assuming the Level or Power is equivalent to strength) I would hope assume Skrall's strength (a statless value) would win out. Again there are many other things to take into account. As an elf, Nerwen probably would have more stamina, and possibly more knowlege of mechanics, and leverage points of the body, whether this would be enough to sway victory to the other side is between us. It's a give and take on both sides, I give your character credit in somethings and in return you give my character credit in others, all the time keeping the development of both our characters as the ultimate goal. The trick is creating checks and balances to make your character believable and someone others enjoy playing with (even if it means conceding to some statless attributes at times), for instance you can create a character that may be more beautiful than other players' characters, but that character may also suffer from deep seated vanity that dictates their buying habits and whether or not they'll use a physical attack during a battle. As an extreme, you could make your character all knowing without any negative attributes, but it'd be hard to pull off convincingly, and I can't see you having many friends in the long run, both as a player and a character.

No amount of gold can withstand a QM's plot-line prophecy, but Gut's attempt is certainly commendable. But who knows, Sandy might be taking this in an entirely unforseen direction. I do know that this quest can seriously not move fast enough for me however.

Or the book starts draining Gut's life force until he gives up the book to Nerwen.

Underground dwarves are so cliche though. My current gem collection only includes: saphire, emerald, topaz, diamond, and aquamarine. I still need to get my hands on an amethyst, ruby, opal, and garnet, otherwise I'd give it a shot. -
No, Gut's has annoyed the crap out of everyone, remember the concept here, being a jerk with out being a jerk. His character naturally believes that Nerwen is out for power, I can see Skrall or Boomingham probably being of the same mind. Most people would not be as trusting of other's intentions in real life as they are in Heroica. Mistrust is a hard thing to pull of in an RPG, especially when you can read what another person's character is thinking.
-
I must say that I am enjoying this little bout in Quest 44 between you two, Scuba and Chromeknight, and I think it is an amazing observation made by Nerwen that the argument is similar to the one over the darkstar in their earlier quest. Keep up the good work.

Most players end up signing up for a quest based upon a mixture of physical reward and reputation gained with a certain house that leads to the expert class they desire. So it is not often that players end up wanting to switch sides, though this is certainly not an absolute. I like the idea Etzel and think PvP can certainly be pulled off, but it takes a lot of setup and coaxing to get them to do it. If you need any help with balancing enemies, there are many QM's on here that I know would be more than welcome to offer assistance, myself included.

Well now, it looks like Eubric might be razed to the ground after all.

And even when other possibilities were brought up they were shot down, as Sveinn can attest even I was somewhat fuzzy on the possibility of you turning out to be a traitor. I think this is pretty blind, what about you? So which is it Snorta or me then? How about neither of us and if you were town you'd see that based upon my work in helping us defeat these scum and Snorta's now revealed private happenings this is indeed the case. But no, you have the rest of the town on your little leash, directing them willy nilly killing one innocent after another and not even allowing them to think for themselves for a moment free of assumptions and partial theories. But it shall not work for you forever and when they are down to their last moments tomorrow, they will realize what they have lost in throwing away the one individual who had fought and defended this group the hardest. Then they will see clearly the one who has led them to such destruction, but I have faith that they will prevail. To that end I resign myself in faith and hope in their ability to give them and me the final victory. Good day brave warriors of Valhalla, I would have drank the manly mead with you until the end. -

Ragnarök Now - Day Seven
Waterbrick Down replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I was satisfied with Snorta's revealing of her discussions with both Hervi and Dragrun, facts you were probably well aware of. Every time accusations have been lobbied against you, you have batted them down. Pandora raised them, you were more than welcome to take advantage of a name drop given by Dragrun to take her down; Rurik, killed at your orders; Snorta, you gafaw at every word she utters. You think you are safe high in your tower padded by your false arguments with Hervi, that in the end never amounted to anything. You think you are safe dictating each of the town's actions keeping in the dark whom you see fit and using each of them for your own gain and then throwing them out to the dogs. You are not safe, for the town will root you out in the end. There remain too many loose strings, how did Dragrun know so much about my role? Was Dragrun some sort of usurper that needed Dragmall killed? Why was Dragmall so convinced by the evidence against Pandora? What happened the night of the three blockers? What went on between Hervi and Dragmall when they called off their fighting match on day 2? Why has their been a lack of a scum kill, are scum roles lost once the one who wielded their action perishes? Why must everyone who brings up an idea contrary to his own opinion be a scum? Will we let these go? Will we sit back and pay them no heed? -

So then tell me not to kill someone if you are so concerned about it. Seriously I've done all of this for the town and now I get thrown under the bus because I did my job? This is pathetic, and yet everyone seems to think it's the right thing to do merely because it is the easy thing to do. The entire case is based upon thinking I'm a serial killer, you think I would just claim that role to put an end to this. The town doesn't win by eliminating neutrals it wins by eliminating the scum. A point you seem content in over-looking, Dragmall or is it because you've gotten the town vigilante to kill innocent townies for you and you can now expect him to take the fall for you? -
Ragnarök Now - Day Seven
Waterbrick Down replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
It is still possible. Gofraid never claimed vig and it is only an assumption based upon the wording of that day thread and seriously why were none of our other power roles ever shown dying before they used their action? To me it seems like there was something else going on. Besides, why would I claim to be the vig to Sveinn when everyone is clamorring about how Gofraid must have been the vig during the day thread? Even if you entertain the possibility that I am a serial killer, which I am not, why in the world would I still be actively trying to kill the scum? It doesn't add up and you know it. Thank you for at least coming to your defense, but now try and root out the last of the scum taking all the facts into consideration, to do otherwise is just to be lazy. If you're not scum than that means it is either Dragmall or Sveinn. Sveinn has helped secure some of the most imporatant lynches and collaborated with me on the taking down of the scum behind the scenes so I really doubt it is him. Which leaves us with Dragmall the mastermind of the town block, the combatant of Hinckley suddenly turned friend during the day thread, and the one who has been directing kills of townies since I have offered my abilities for his utilization. -

My apologies, that came out wrong. I meant that the amount of time it would have taken to forge such statements would have been beyond that reasonably expected of someone involved in this ordeal. Not impossible but improbable of the highest degree. If I now might inquire, why exactly is my head on the chopping block again? -

Thank you Snorta for getting off you lazy bum and helping for once. Your attitude Since when have I been a loose cannon. As many can attest my kills have been for our good and rationally discussed with those in power. Please read and consider these things instead of operating under the single assumption that many have before you. Now is not the time to slack off on our analysis. Thank you for sharing those PM's, I cannot see them being forged, even by someone with your time. But that still leaves the question open. Who is the last scum? Someone told Dragrun that I was the vigilante and if it's not you then who? Dragmall? He's been leading this town block since Hervi's death. Sveinn? I've had a claim of protector from him since day 3 practically, so unless someone else got a claim of protector then I can't see him being anything but that.
