[TC18] Mini Porsche 959 AWD
Seasider replied to sirslayer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Glad you kept this in @Jim as I’m hoping it turns out great and @sirslayer offers instructions or at least the LDD once the competition is finished -
technic tyre dimensions are diameter and width. I’ve just checked with a rule on my build so far against the dimensions quoted on the tyres. i think the competition as it now stands is great. Lots of WIP topics too so that’s great to see. I’m too busy working from home to do build during the week so weekends only for me. Just the occasional thought in my brain of what to do next or how to solve a problem.

I’ll give it a go at some point and see what it looks like in stud.io assuming the wheels are in there -

I hadn’t considered those as I don’t think they’re on @Sariels wheel chart on his website. I haven’t checked their dimensions but one of the issues will be the tyre is very low profile. Thanks, I’ll take another look after TC18 -

Thanks @I_Igor I’m not actually that hot on engines, body structures and crash/impact performance are my things. But I do know a bit about the 959 as it’s a fantastic beast and one of the few Porsches I’d love to own. I was even fortunate enough to go to the Porsche museum at the time they had a 959 exhibition with the original aero car and the motorshow concept car. You were almost right, the block is air cooled but the head is water cooled. -

Wow ... if you get that to work would you share / sell instructions at a later date? I’m thinking desk model for work (when I get back there) Curious how you’re going to do the Flat engine -

I’m liking the look of this. I even like the face they’ve put a wheelie bar mech in so you can recreate the scene from the first film where it pops an insane wheelie -

Precisely I’m not doing any unnecessary spending at the moment. And buying new Lego sets will be in that list, Including the Lambo ultimate set that I’ll definitely want -

I’d ignored them completely as I thought the rims wouldn’t work with the tyres. Oh well I’ll stick to what I’ve gone with- 52 replies

[TC18] Monochrome Roadster
Seasider replied to Seasider's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Work for today ... built the yellow box to check model, I also think it helps for scaling. This was with the 11 high limit which I admit was going to be tough. then I joined the chassis together and that’s it for me today. I don’t want to build too much each weekend, next update next weekend. -

I bought a few of them from Bricks n Pieces when they became available. Along with 2 of the large white frames (as you can see I’ve used one already) and 4 of the white and red small wheel arches. I didn’t fancy the blue as I’ve not got much of that colour. the new diff is good but you have to carefully drop the bevel gears into it. The first couple of times I had them binding. I used it here mainly as I just wanted to use it asap -
So the actual name of this is to be decided, it depends upon the route I take when I do the bodywork. With a few hours to waste yesterday this is what I care up with. First thing was to get a rear axle within the 15 stud width. The second was to design an engine. I’ve gone for a straight six which sits at a slight angle. At the moment I don’t have suspension on the front as I think it will be too complicated with the engine being there. For the rear I wanted some basic suspension so I’ve opened for a solid rear axle. Here’s my first pic. Might do some more this afternoon.

So a little update from me post competition. Here is the stripped down chassis And here is the body stripped back to non-Mad Max And then I ran into a problem. I’d built my model by scaling off the front headlamp which I wanted to use a 2x2 for, this was ok as the wheel size didn’t matter for the Max vehicle. As you can see I was working to 5mm = 1 stud from the drawings I’d printed. But when you switch to the Wheels it means I need a 6.5 x 1.5 stud wheel and tyre combo which doesn’t exist. So the Austin is on hold, sorry @I_Igor. But on a good piece of news @Jim has started a new competition so I’ve been working on that for 2 hours today to break up the boredom of U.K. lockdown. -
So you’ve gone for a tyre size and not a Wheel Rim one. no balloon tyres then @Jim? As to the box size you should be able to calculate it if someone has a CAD file of the Transporter. I’d make sure you are clear on if you quote vehicle size or the size of the box it must fit within. The box would be 2 stud bigger in every dimension. also can the chassis picture be a picture of the underside? You say a picture before you put the body on top
