  1. Hi, I’ve been watching this thread as I wondered what this theme would be like. I think the figures are interesting and definitely in the realm of being “collectible”, but I’m not sure about a Lego product that is more about a mobile app than physical play. another concern I have for the collector with the CMF boxes is that it says 2 of the 3 tiles are random in each box. So even if there is a method of identifying the figures there’s no guarantee you’ll get the full set of tiles
  2. 26: 10 20: 6 6: 4 17: 3 5: 2 14: 1 Some fantastic entries from everyone and a great varied selection. Good Luck everyone sorry no idea why it’s gone large text on my iphone
  3. Great progress so far, although I beg to differ about your title. When you consider the price of the Defender when compared to the Sian I don’t think you can fault it, I think it’s one of the better Technic models in recent years. Also adding motors doesn’t necessarily make a model better, well at least in my opinion. looking forward for future updates on this In terms of images I use Flickr for my Lego builds and post the links for individual images in my posts. Very easy in the mobile app.
  4. Well I don’t think it’ll be the next “UCS” car as they’re every 2 years.
  5. Great looking bike. You managed some great shaping there and got the right balance with the colours (not too much red or black)
  6. @Jurss I just checked bricklink out of curiosity and it’s from a 1998/9 set with a robot
  7. I know I’m going to hate this thread so I’m going to try and leave this comment and then not return. I’m approaching 50 and love Technic (my main theme of choice). I love the Ultimate Supercars but now I’m in a phase where actually I’m switching to buying parts not sets to feed my habit and provide new bits for creating MOCs for TC competitions. The main reason is lack of space for storing stuff! It I do like some of the current sets, just don’t feel the need to buy them. But also my 9yr old nephew (I don’t have kids myself) is just on the transition into Technic. He got his first sets last year and is now enjoying both System and Technic. His System creations are fantastically random like all kids should do. His Technic interest at the moment is the smaller pullback sets, he just loves them. Remember Lego is just a plastic construction toy at the end of the day. <leaves thread>
  8. As they’re all injection molded parts I’d expect them to use something like Moldflow to design the tools. As to software for stress on the parts there are lots I’ve used Hyperworks, ABAQUS, Nastran, Radioss, LS-Dyna, PamCrash to name just a few in my career
  9. And if you’re talking pythagoras and Lego technic then you count the number of studs minus 1 for each length so to get a 3 4 5 triangle you actually need to use 4 5 6 as your beam lengths.
  10. Hi @Jim just seen this thread and I’ve got a question about the new gold shocks. Why are the pin and axle holes offset from the main line of force ? Why not create a long shock with an axle hole on the top end? We could then add a ball pin or a pin hole connector to the top for a variety of connections
  11. So I’ve finally decided to open my Falcon and get building. Something to break the boredom of working from home in a lockdown. I’ve built @efferman’s stand and so far I’m at the end of #2 bags. I understand that I can mount the model at the end of #4 bags. But I have a few Q’s I’m hoping people can answer. can I mount the model either way round on the stand. I’d love the have the model pointing to the right due to where it will sit on the desk. Or does it end up with the cockpit resting on the ground (or too close for comfort) is it obvious how / where to mount the model when I get to the end of #4? If not can someone give me some pointers/photos? has anyone made up covers to reduce the holes left by the removal of the landing gear when mounting to this stand? thanks
  12. Shaping around the back is great. It’s a shame you didn’t do the future delivery vehicle but this is a great little scooter
  13. Thanks @Jim ... looks like this is another good competition with lots of varied entries
  14. @Jim and @Milan, so people have interpreted the chassis picture in different ways. I took it to mean the frame of the bike and so made a second frame accordingly. But I noticed some people have pictures showing engine etc. Don’t need to add the engine and drive chain to my frame ? also my frame is “idealised” ... the rear half as the bodywork, as I’d call it, the panels and lift arms you see on the surface they form the structure back there. I hope using an “idealised” frame is ok? also my fuel tank is the same, that forms the structure at the front and if I removed it there would be a big gap.
  15. @Xour I used to use LDD but then I got a iMac and I now use Stud.io it takes some getting used to but it is powerful. I’ve made instructions from it for a very small model. But mainly I use it for making a digital record of my MOCs.
  16. Like the shaping you have there. How are the wide wheels made? It looks like you’re only using one rim?
  17. @johnnym they’re pins from the Lego Forma Koi set. They only appeared in that set.
  18. The Speeder Description: Hardtail Chopper Front suspension Flat 2 cylinder engine Dimensions (approx): 54 studs long, 11 wide (18 at handlebars) & 17 high Video: WIP Thread:
  19. @Jim & @Milan do you know when the entry topic will reopen ? my entry is all finished now just need to decide on the photos and perhaps a short video. Also for my “frame” I’ve made a model of what my frame effectively is, as the fuel tank and rear bodywork make up certain parts of the frame. So I’ve made a mode that’s just liftarms to show the load paths of the frame.
  20. So I’ve played about with the front this morning and I’ve come up with these 2 options. One I’m calling bike style and the second SW style. Thoughts ? Bike style SW style And then I’ve done a hybrid which I think will be my final choice ... too much tinkering time !
  21. Thanks @Jurss & @Thirdwigg without it is. I’ll try and take some final photos and a video tomorrow.
  22. So I think I’m finished. Lates adds are ... A recolour of the upper frame to be more aligned to a speederbike (colour upper, grey lower). Modified tank to make it look better and more closed off. Added some white connectors to make the area under the seat look more connected visually. Replaced the blue 3L pins with black ones, unfortunately I don’t have any black 2L axle pins. Added a front light and simple handlebars. So the only thing I’m undecided on is whether I use the panels around the front wheel. I think without looks better than with. What are your thoughts ?
  23. Hi all @Vilhelm22 directed me here. I’d love a shuttle to go with the Saturn and Apollo lander, I don’t have the ISS as it’s just not ticking any boxes for me. But the big issue I have is naming it Columbia. I think TLG would steer clear of naming it Columbia or Challenger because of the poor astronauts who lost their lives in those craft. I can just picture some tasteless images on Instagram etc where someone uses the set to create a meme around those poor people. there were plenty of other shuttles each with their own piece of history to use. I’d love a shuttle, in all its glory with the orange tank and boosters. If it was scaled to the same size as the Saturn even better.
  24. @Vilhelm22 I’m mainly in the Technic forum, and occasionally the SW one. But I did do a review of Forma which I think might be in this part of the forum. Thanks for the link to the shuttle thread.
