  1. Minor update from me with some more Stud.io work from Thursday night and a bit today (staying out of the midday sun). Green pins are there to define the centrelines but also so I can overlay the models. Original with New in trans-blue New with Original in trans-blue So it’s coming along nicely. I need to narrow the rear axle by a stud, but I’m happy with the rear bed. Next will be a bit of finessing of the Cab and also starting to work on the front bucket, which I’ll start as a stand-alone model.
  2. Just some minor updates from me. I’ve switched to using Stud.io as then it’s easy to overlay the original and my new models. I’ve found this especially useful given the odd/even challenge initial concept for the cab and then I’ve started looking at the chassis and the bed lift Hopefully get to do some more at the weekend.
  3. Yes a traditional Technic studded beam is based of standard System but with Technic holes between the studs. So studded Technic is even whereas studless is odd.
  4. @fosamax I haven’t looked to see if anyone has already done the model I’m doing. I’m sure there are many ways for each of us to do our own interpretation of a classic model even if one exists already
  5. These buggy’s appeared in a lot of the Classic Space sets and not just as its own set. A true classic Lego model. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out.
  6. I’m try hard to be as close as possible to the original. Not going to be 100% the same due to odd vs even studded / studless but it’ll be close
  7. So when I heard rumours of this I had a few projects floating around my brain. One was related to Classic Space as I’ve recently got back into it and been buying 1979 sets from eBay (an expensive hobby I know ... but that’s not the point). But seeing the revised rules this morning about not making a model a sea of stacked liftarms I’ve abandoned building the 928 Space Cruiser (as that’s what the wings would look like). So I’ve gone back to my original Technic models I had as a kid and I’ve decided to make a modern version of 8848 Tipper Truck from 1981, as it was known in the U.K. (also known as Power Truck according to Brickset). So first of all I built it last night ... Looking at it you can see it was obviously the first Unimog. So my plan is to build something the same size with the same functions but in the modern Technic style. The HOG steering will be moved to on top of the roof rather than hidden under it (so strange if you think about it) and for the tipper bed I want to change to being activated by Linear Actuators instead of a lever and rack combination. This means I may be able to squeeze some seats in the cabin. First of all I thought I’d scope out the chassis. I decided to use modern wheels and tyres that have the same diameter as the old. I want to use modern elements and techniques as much as possible while still retaining the overall look of the model. I’ve got a bucket of bits including curved panels to remake the cab and front arches. I’m going to work on this next. The cab will be 1 stud wider than the original as studless is based on odd numbers. Potentially some more building tonight and then no more until next week as we’re heading away for a local-ish based holiday for a few days.
  8. @Jim and @Milan when it comes to functions what is your view in doing the same function but in a modern Technic way instead of identical to the original. Eg something that was gears on the rack brick to extend things being replaced by a modern linear actuator or something that was a lever to pull being changed into a gear to turn ?
  9. I’ve actually got a few favourite stud based models in mind so depending upon the rules I’ll work out which to choose. Or perhaps even start building a few and see how I go before posting my WIP thread
  10. I’m hoping to be able to deviate from the colours slightly of the set if like to build in studless. It should still look like a studless Technic interpretation of the set but just won’t match colours 100% But it depends on what the Moderators come up with for the competition rules ... which I why I’m not putting too much thought into it yet
  11. I don’t see why @Jim and @Milan would limit a set to just being done by one person. If that rule was imposed there would be a mad rush of WIP threads with no content apart from a claim on a set and lots of arguments about who first claimed which set. Also having more than one person tackling a set would be interesting to see what approach each person has taken. I’m waiting till the official thread appears before I work out what I’m going to build just in case it doesn’t fit the brief or the brief gives me a different idea.
  12. If we can’t adapt the colour scheme that means I need to relook at my idea 🤔
  13. Ooh a new competition. If we’re allowed to change the scale I’ve got a thought already bubbling away in my head about something I’ve been getting into.
  14. Even without the message behind the set this looks great as a display piece and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.
  15. Loving the Gauntlet, as good as I hoped for something that size in Lego. Disappointed by the Iron Monger as the body is way too skinny for his height Hoping the Benatar lives up to expectations
  16. As lots of you have already commented I don’t know what the benefits would be of a purely Technic set. A healthy mix of System in a Technic set isn’t a bad thing, like Technic as part of a System model isn’t a bad thing either. If you stuck to the rules of pure Technic or pure System you wouldn’t have headlights or details on Technic models and you wouldn’t have play features or strong frames on System models. One thing I don’t want to see are large bespoke panels on Technic sets, like the bonnet/hood someone made for the Sian. If you want a model like that go buy a traditional model kit (airfix/tamiya).
  17. Totally agree with bringing it back in here.
  18. Thanks all, so looks like I have options. only issue with minifigure madness will be additional customs charges because of good old brexit ! so perhaps my local smiths will be my first attempt do Lego stores sell a full box too?
  19. This might sound like a stupid question for you all but how do you buy a full CMF box? With the rumoured list for the Marvel Disney+ CMF I’d want to get all of them and the obvious way is to buy a box and sell the spares. So how do you do that? I’m in the U.K.
  20. Me 10-15 years ago would have gone for this in a shot.
  21. Had a look on eBay earlier today after my many failed attempts to get it in the U.K. some crazy prices on eBay that I’m not even going to bother with. TLG needs to work out better ways of doing these releases
  22. Sold out in the U.K. ... now that is VERY frustrating as I’d been trying to get onto the page since before 9am! 🤬
  23. Anyone else unable to get into the vip rewards centre ? All I’m getting is a pop up to accept terms which then tells me “something went wrong” so I can’t get to the page!
  24. Ahh, that but I’ve always known as the tunnel, short for transmission tunnel. even on a car that is front wheel drive this will still be referred to as the tunnel and is used to house the exhaust. My guess of the centre console is the interior trim piece that mounts on top of this inside the cabin.
