Looks nice and clean so far. I like your use of panels but if you’re going for replication I think you need to slope the bonnet more

@Thirdwigg that’s the first time I’ve heard my username be used to describe a process. Glad it’s a good one 🤣

Yes it was a great solution thanks. I’ve used a blue clutch gear to move the rack but also connected a thin liftarm to the bottom of the rack to give the right spacing. -

Although I’m a big fan of orange, I have to say I do like the look of the blue model. -

@Scoar Sonander - there’s 2 grey small double bevel gears on the left. The forward one operates the bucket lift and the rear the tipper bed. An update for you all, managed to complete the Stud.io file before work (working from home and no early meetings!). Some renders for you below Side by side And overlay with 1 model “ghosted” From this I make the old model 388 parts and the new one 600! -

Thanks for the great comments. It’s great to see others who are fans of 8848 and also to hear that I’ve done it justice in many minds. Sorry I haven’t formally submitted it yet. I ended up being busy with cars and stuff at the weekend so didn’t get time to take the photos I wanted and perhaps a little video to compare the models. I’m also just checking my Stud.io file which contains both the original and new model, it’s not quite complete and I want to use it for some statistics. Hopefully I’ll be able to free up some time on Friday afternoon or Saturday. @Scoar Sonander which gears would you change to black or tan ? I’ve tried to keep to the original colour scheme where possible. I decided on a black gear for the steering as it seemed more appropriate and TLG uses black when it does this form of HOG itself. The gear small double bevels on the sides to control the functions I did them in grey to mimic the connectors of the original model but also to they are easy to see against the black chassis. -

@MangaNOID you right if you give it a good shake the axle connectors pop out of the 3L axle pins, but just picking it up and whooshing it around it’s fine. I’ve tried to find other ways of connecting the roof but still sticking to liftarms and making sure I get the flat surfaces where I want them but haven’t found a great solution. You can’t pick the original up by the roof either so perhaps I’ve replicated that function too 😂 -

So I’m all done … spent a bit of odd evening time doing what I thought would be an easy mod to the chassis of raising the bucket lift by 1 stud and making the axles/gears a lot simpler for it. Turns out I completely redid the front half of the chassis. @SaperPL I’ve decided to keep the blue and red pins. I could swap these out for black counterparts but I wanted this to look like a model TLG would release now. Chassis update old chassis for bucket lift and steering (lots of gears!) New chassis with the bucket lift one stud higher (as per original model) which gives a cleaner mechanism for both it and the steering. (Note the red connectors here got replaced by the 2hole 1axle version) The finished model … and compared to the original … so bucket and tipper bed now operated by gears on the side so the interior has seats and a fake steering wheel. HOG steering now on top of the roof instead of hidden underneath. Front and rear PTOs like the original but using the CV joint parts as they look more like a real PTO. Entry will hopefully be submitted on Sunday. enjoy :) -
Looks great so far but I agree with @Jurss I think you have the ratios of wheelbase, width and height off compared to the real vehicle / original model

Does anyone know if you can interface a gear rack (87761) with a clutch gear (18946 or 35185)? I’m working on a mech where I’d love an axle for a secondary function to run through where the steering is- 5,506 replies

Looking good so far. Love the detail of the carburettors on the engine. I agree you need to refine the nose some more. Perhaps use a panel (or 2) on the top to then hide the structure underneath. Are you also going to add endplate extensions to the front wing like the original ? -

So after a bit of build time this weekend I think I’m finished. I had to redo the steering as I realised it clashed with the mech for the bucket raise/lower, and as people asked I managed to swap the curved panel for the one with less holes. Excuse the Falcon in the corner of this image. Just need to update my stud.io file now. -
@Gray Gear Having almost finished my build I can tell you that recreating a model with less parts is actually difficult. Studded Technic models obviously used the studs to connect beams which need to be replaced with pins/axles and then just to get the equivalent of a plate or a bespoke system part you’ll use a lot of Technic parts as replacement.
