  1. How in the world did we get 14 pages of speculation from three pictures? Actually, most of the comments here probably belong in the Future Star Wars Sets thread.
  2. You, sir, have good taste in graphic novels. There are a handful of good graphic novel series I've read, though I'm not sure whether they're too mainstream. One notable series is a two-volume work about working mages in urban Japan. (Yes, mages.) Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto This is some of the best manga-style artwork I have ever seen.
  3. That's what I meant.
  4. A picture's worth a thousand words...
  5. EDIT: Never mind.
  6. Well, seeing as this thread has been bumped again... Has anyone tried switching out the canopy piece in this set with the new one from the recent Nantex set? I remember everyone saying how fitting it would be...
  7. But it's not the same thing, is it?
  8. There we go: Overall, you're off to a good start. The curved bricks around the TIE cockpit piece look all right, and I'm relieved that you're not using those horrid 6-wide inverted slopes. Personally, I think using a 6-wide dish instead of the TIE piece would allow for a little more freedom in how you create the ball cockpit, but that's a matter of preference. The bracer arms should look like this.
  9. It would look rather <insert that tiresome argument> (and may not have much use otherwise), but that certainly is an idea.
  10. If I recall correctly, only the X-wing and A-wing are Incom. The B-wing is from Slayn & Korpil, and the Y-wing (as Brickdoctor mentioned) is from Koensayr. If you want to bring the Expanded Universe in, there's the V-wing airspeeder, also from Slayn & Korpil (though it looks like it would be from Incom), and the K-wing, also from Koensayr (hence the resemblance to the Y-wing). The E-wing, though one would expect it to be Incom, is actually from some obscure manufacturer called FreiTek. Would somebody like to explain this joke (though I suspect I already know...) TIE/lns looked almost white in the original Star Wars, so I think the color is fitting. But that's just me.
  11. Leave us accuracy sticklers alone. In all seriousness, overall it doesn't seem like there are very many people concerned about this, and we all know there are plenty of alternatives. An even better alternative? Build in a larger scale! Besides, before we worry about how thick a plate is we need to do something about that blocky cockpit ball.
  12. I apologize if this sounds blunt, but how often do we actually get future sets from LEGO animated shorts? EDIT: And remember, as much as I loved the midi-scale sets, they didn't sell very well, and The LEGO Group doesn't seem to be planning to make any more.
  13. The only way we could make the panels thinner than one to two plates is if we were to place fabric (like ship's sails) in between a frame of one plate or one bar's thickness.
  14. While I can't see what you've done, I can offer some solutions for wing braces that are more stable (and that are more aesthetically pleasing, at least in my opinion) than your current solution of 2x2 bricks. One solution I would definitely take into consideration is David Low's, which uses both a 2x2 round brick and the hub of a wheel. He claims that all of his MOCs are designed with playability in mind, so I'm guessing it's fairly stable. Another good solution would be lowlead's. Unfortunately, I don't know what that large round piece on the end is (though someone else might)... As for a cockpit that can open up, I think that SNOTing the rear viewport like this and attaching it to a hinged plate should do fine. If it fits the size of your cockpit ball you could even just stick a 6-wide inverted dish in the back, mounted on a hinge. (I say this because I happen to recall that a certain AFOL did use 6-wide dishes for a truly "round" cockpit ball on his TIE.)
  15. Let's not forget the Jango Fett minifigure and the Clone Wars Phase I trooper. @_nours:That's funny - with all the hype over the new TIE/ln it's almost as if we'd forgotten about the supposed second exlcusive set for this year.
  16. Well, it was a much-needed remake...
  17. I think there was a trans-dark blue bar piece in a recent Hero Factory set, but it didn't show up in any Star Wars sets. And in any case, trans-blue is closer to the correct cyan color.
  18. There is a hatch in the top, but it's not the one normally used for getting in and out. It's true! Personally I'd say the rear hatch makes more sense than a top hatch, because it wouldn't exactly be easy to climb into a fighter through the top... especially since they're stored on racks. That being said, I think having only the front open is an improvement over older renditions... now our TIEs can sit open without looking like they've been ripped in half. Not only that, but the 'drawings' you have provided are from the Essential Guide, which is a secondary source and a pretty inaccurate one at that.
  19. I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet: Also, aspiring to be the next Justin Bieber...
  20. Actually, the main ingress/egress hatch was intended to be in the back. 7664...
  21. I gotta start remembering to count stud thickness. Oh? I'm looking forward to seeing this next MOC. Eh, I don't mind the studded look too much. @lightningtiger: Judging by the size of Anio's UCS TIE/ln, I'm guessing this new TIE is a System set.
  22. I'm guessing this came from my recent activity in the 'Hello! My Name is...' subforum. My new title is now SNOT welcoming committee. Not as nice as my last title, methinks, but it's pretty funny.
  23. From the looks of that round piece, the cockpit ball of the new TIE/ln is going to need some work. Actually, I too would have preferred that the wings be thinner (the border could have been done in this fashion). I'll be changing the wing panels anyway, so this doesn't bother me too much. Not only that, but these come in useful. From the looks of it, there's just enough space for a 6-wide radar dish. Or just scrap the ball altogether and use Robo Man's solution. I think that printed hemisphere piece might work well for a Scimitar assault bomber, though. And I'm not usually one for minifigures, but I couldn't help noticing the great new R5-series head. It's too bad it isn't red, or it would have been perfect for a Red Leader X-wing.
  24. Solar panel anglature fail :* Joking aside, this is definitely a big improvement over 7263, and not just because of the new color scheme. I like that they've printed the TIE cockpit** in the fashion of a certain MOC I've seen, as well as the tiles used to recreate the grey border (similar to what was done in dateman's TIE/ln). It also looks like the laser cannons have been relocated and that the grey beams on the solar panels have been done the same way as in 7181 and 10175. It's great that The LEGO Group really used lots of good techniques that have been seen in others' work. Heck, I might actually buy this if future pictures reveal it to look as good as it does here. *Anio got it right. **Or is that a new piece?
