Which is why each museum has a free day a week, including Science and Industry (which does it differently. It has free weeks every other month) and that's when the school groups go. Granted, the temporary exhibits are still up–sells but having one free admission day a week is encouraging education and accessibility. It's a good balance with keeping themselves running in this tax bracket. Milwaukee Public Museum Looks like special exhibits are an up–sell. What do you know? (And it's $1 cheaper than the horrible $18 that Chicago's MSI is charging. ) Indianapolis Museum of Art Well, it doesn't look like Indianapolis has a comparable science museum (big surprise) but let's take a look at their art museum. Same story. Flat admission, (which happens to be the $18 you complained about and said Indiana wouldn't be that high) up–sell for special exhibitions. Looks pretty damn similar to Chicago to me. What are you basing your opinion on? yourself.

Or typical United States. How is this more a Chicago thing than other areas?

This is basically the way I understood it to work as well. I put an additional amount on top of the normal policy. I pay a premium for the amount I insured it for and they give me the amount I insured my LEGO collection for in case there is any damage to it. If you pay your insurance company monthly, they'll insure what you need protected... I'm sure there are some exceptions but I've yet to hear an insurance company wouldn't insure a LEGO collection.

So, was there only a few last night? Maybe it didn't fix it completely but it seems to have helped. I hope?

Mine is insured. I just told them I have "a collection" and gave it a value. They will insure pretty much anything you assign a value to. It was basically "additional insurance". This is not my experience, but I have Travelers and I'm located in the US in Chicago, IL.
