Have LEGO products become more violent?
xboxtravis7992 replied to bartneck's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Wow, that gun is far more realistic than any toy guns I had as a kid! No bright orange anywhere. And all coming from the company of "no-violence" :) The flame war that's erupting on Brickset over this article is very strange. Especially that one AFOL who pointed those who defend Lego's violence are all "Bionicle and Star Wars skewed teenagers." Yes I might love those two themes but first I'm 22 not 16, and second I might have witnessed far more violence than some jaded 40 year old AFOL has seen in his life (unless he is a veteran or a cop, then he has got me beat). A man once attempted to rob me in broad daylight, and on another day I witnessed a complete social collapse with mass looting and violence. The claim that we don't have enough life experience to comment on what "real" violence is, is ridiculous. And trust me, two little kids having two minifigures or Bionicle sets fight each other is nowhere near the effects of real violence. If anything imaginative violent play is a form of escapism, I'd rather have those violent behaviors be taken out on plastic toys, not real people. And sometimes violent play teaches real life consequences to. Ever taken a Marshall arts class? Getting your butt handed to you is a good reminder that violence is best as a "last resort" in self defence. And yes to prove my comment on the violence I witnessed, someone filmed a YouTube video of it. The place I attended church at is RIGHT next to the supermarket being looted. I was five blocks or so west at the time writing my parents back in the US via email. This violence lasted two days, and on the morning of the third day the streets where littered in baracades and ashes and broken bottles. This is what real destructive behavior is, not near anything Lego has ever promoted. -
What? I heard "First Order Problems" was the title :D

Honestly I think a lot of AFOMBs cone via interest in the licenses MB has. Ever noticed almost all of Jang's Megablocks reviews are Halo stuff? Noticed Jang's other channels and how one of them is chock full of videos of him just beast-moding it in Halo 5 multiplayer? Correlation? I think so. Example here: I will be honest to, I've been tempted at the thought of Mega Blocks Halo line to... Ultimately though I figured it's better to do it myself in Lego (compromising by someday I will buy BrickForge and Brick Arms) than buy from Megablocks. But some people don't have those reservations, and if they want COD or Halo toys, Mega they go. Edit: (Also worth noting in Jang's case (He is one of the few AAFOs I see talking about Megablocks) he has a lot more hobbies than just Lego, sometimes when he reviews stuff in other hobbies he even shows his face: My mind is blown)

Have LEGO products become more violent?

The Lego fan community is more violent than Lego's own products sometimes... ever noticed the bazillion MOCs of dismembered minifigures on MOCpages? -
Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

Yeah I forgot Prince of Persia. I don't know if I count Indy yet although I hope Disney revives the theme with a new movie. Toy Story 3 was definitely a Disney release post acquisition of Pixar and that's what inspired most of the sets. Although yes to be technical Toy Story and Toy Story 2 where at the time only distributed by Disney.- 4,155 replies

Although its something I might not start for a while, I am putting thought into restoring a lot of my old sets. 15 years of use has taken a toll on a lot of my early 2001-2003 Bionicle figures. Some have dented pieces from my dogs getting a hold of them... Others have broken ball cup holders from years of use. A few missing pieces here and there. And a few pieces such as Tahu's flame sword are bent. I have used Bricklink before to order new parts to replace the originals (my Turaga Vakama's current firestaff is from a Bricklink replacement order, a teething Shi-Tzu ruined his original). But I want to know if it is the best way to go at this? It seems hunting down every random part from every seller who has such different rules and guidlines and shipping prices might take more money than I would want to spend on it. And it is also likely after I finish restoring Bionicle sets I might have to go on and tackle the challenge of the System sets to... So what is the most cost effective way to do this?

Yeah 4 Technic pins missing are hardly the "rarest" part of those sets! Very easy fix. Now if the KauKau or Pakari was missing there would be a problem...

Best Space Mountain Ride Version?
xboxtravis7992 replied to xboxtravis7992's topic in Culture & Multimedia
30 minutes away! Lucky! Quite a difference from my 10 hour long road trip last week. :) Yeah I've been on every California version except Rockin'. Rockin' didn't last as long as some of the other versions did. -
Yes indeed a nice improvement over the official set. I didn't get the set either, and although I am not a huge BTTF fan I'd still love to have a model of the Time Machine.

So I got back recently from a trip to Disneyland where I got to ride Hyperspace Mountain; a Star Wars themed overlay of the Disneyland ride. And it got me thinking, which version of the ride is the best? I figured I would need to get the internet's opinion somehow, and since Eurobricks is a rather active community I thought, why not? I figure it belongs here in the culture and multimedia subforum since it is a cultural discussion. I don't know how many other people here are interested in the Disney parks, but I figure its worth asking. So for those not in the know Space Mountain is the name of a ride based in five different Disney parks across the globe. All the rides are roller coasters in a dark room simulating space travel. The first to open was the Walt Disney World version, which remains unique in that it has two different roller coaster tracks inside the same building. Disneyland's Space Mountain in California was the second to open and has undergone the most revisions, being capable of supporting different projections and special effects to change the ride experience. The Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland versions copy the track of the California ride. The Paris Disneyland version is the most unique ride wise, as it uses a linear induction based launch to recreate the Columbiad cannon from Jule's Verne's From the Earth to the Moon. Below are videos of each ride version and variant: Walt Disney World Ride (note ride experience is rather similar in both the original and refurbished versions, the refurbished one adds new sounds): Disneyland Pre-2003 Ride: Post 2005 "Normal" Ride Configuration: Rockin' Space Mountain - Hoobstabank (no video was found) Rockin' Space Mountain - Red Hot Chile Peppers: Ghost Galaxy: Hyperspace Mountain: Tokyo Disneyland Original Ride: Refurbished Ride: Paris Disneyland Original Ride: Mission 2 version: Hong Kong Disneyland Original Ride: Ghost Galaxy (Nearly identical to California's so not included here) So, your opinions for my fanboy philosophizing?

The best of the worst Lego Ideas

It does raise a good point, Lego hasn't released a massive cruise ship model in recent years. I'd pay a good wad of cash for a good D2C cruise ship. But yeah I can't bash to much on the kid... Dang it. -

What would you ask the LEGO Bionicle team?

Why do the villain sets have such an eclectic color combination (both 2015 and 2016 villains)? -
Is this just about Lego or anything else? Because today via Amazon I ordered a copy of the compilation books of Superior Iron Man (volume 1) and the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (volume 1). And I also bought a bottle of Imodium.

79110 MOD - Modular Train Tunnel - Wild West style
xboxtravis7992 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Seeing that UP only allows BNSF to run manifest freights through the Nevada-Utah trackage rights, if UP ever wanted to get rid of those lines and BNSF acquired them I'm sure BNSF would rush to upgrade intermodal traffic in the area. It is basically a nearly straight shot from San Francisco to Chicago via that route. -

xboxtravis7992 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yeah I've heard a lot of similar talk to... If Union Pacific sold the former DRGW routes to BNSF maybe it would find new purpose; BNSF is already operating occasional trains over the former WP and DRGW routes to Provo Utah. It was one of the requirements of the SP-UP merger that BNSF be allowed access to Utah via those routes to allow fair competition. So they might be interested in it... But even then I doubt they would jump on it :( I know on the Utah side of the DRGW we also have the Utah Railway operating over Soldier Summit to. But their operations would hardly help the Moffat, as UP could theoretically tear up rail from Green River through the Moffat Route without interrupting any Utah Railway operations. And since so much of the Utah Railway's operations are tied into the coal business which is being killed off right now... Not a good sign. Sorry, we literally derailed this part of the topic! -
79110 MOD - Modular Train Tunnel - Wild West style
xboxtravis7992 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Exactly! One of the trains in my area the ZDVSC is a double stack/piggyback intermodal train that the Denver and Rio Grande Western used to run over the Tennessee Pass then through Soldier Summit up to Salt Lake City. After the SP/DRGW-UP merger and the closure of Tennesse Pass; the Union Pacific has been running it up to the Overland Route into Wyoming, then through Echo Canyon, and then back down into Salt Lake. It drives all the local railfans here nuts to think that if Tennesse Pass was just reopened or the Moffat was expanded to allow double stacks; then the UP could take a more direct route through the Rockies from Denver to Salt Lake; rather than this route around them they are doing... Not to mention the traffic on the Overland Route is getting bad enough its starting to bottleneck the Overland Route anyways... Sorry, a bit off topic. But I just had to say it! -
So many characters to choose from, here is a list I mentioned in another thread: - Pluto - Goofy - Mickey (Sorcerer Outfit) - Oswald the Lucky Rabbit - Woody - Mulan - Carl (Up) - Russell (Up) - Frozone - Mrs. Incredible - Cinderella - Fairy Godmother - Rapunzel - Finn Rider - Hades - Hercules - Lilo - Walt Disney (late 1950's/early 1960's appearance) I'd also like some Tron figures, Disney rides such as Haunted Mansion, and a crap ton of characters I can't even think of right now! So many possibilities for Series 2 or even dare say 3?

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

I understand your point with live action characters. However I still think Disney could easily authorize the likeness of Walt Disney himself to be in a future line. Also theme park audio-anamatronic figures should have no issues with likenesses; so even if Pirates of the Caribbean"the movies" can't be used as inspiration, Pirates of the Caribbean "the Original Ride" could! We could have a few characters from the ride easily, the Red Head, the Mayor, Pirate in jail with bone and a dog... etc. The only issue would be the ride has a much more limited appeal than the more widely seen movies have. Still here is a wish list for Series 2 (I will state, that I agree with previous comments that Lego should produce more of Series 1 first for a wider distribution): - Pluto - Goofy - Mickey (Sorcerer Outfit) - Oswald the Lucky Rabbit - Woody - Mulan - Carl (Up) - Russell (Up) - Frozone - Mrs. Incredible - Cinderella - Fairy Godmother - Rapunzel - Finn Rider - Hades - Hercules - Lilo - Walt Disney (late 1950's/early 1960's appearance) Just a wish list, but as they say "When you wish upon a star..."- 4,155 replies

79110 MOD - Modular Train Tunnel - Wild West style
xboxtravis7992 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Funny thing is a lot of real life rail tunnels have issues with double stack container trains. Some lines rather than making the tunnel higher actually lowered the track to fit the trains in. Of course with Lego we don't have that luxury, so adding those two bricks of height are very essential. But as much as I love double stack container trains, single stack trains are prototypical in areas where tunnels haven't been extended yet! For example the Moffat Tunnel in Colorado can accept single stack trains, Amtrak's Superliner cars, and piggy backed trucks: but it can't fit double stack trains. That is part of the reason Union Pacific routes most of its trains via Echo Canyon instead of the Moffat. Any way enough train detail talk :) I like the tunnel a lot. What it needs is a huge mountain to plow through now!
