How open are you about your Lego passion?
Peppermint_M replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well, I somewhat took the plunge last week... As The Sun was giving away free sets and I went to uni for a few hours during the working day, I popped into town from the campus to pick up the paper and the free set. Later in the afternoon when I was back in the office, one of my colleagues was in search of a paper and I offered mine. Intrigued by this unusual occurance (as I never buy papers really) they put two and two together and realised I was buying for the toy. They made mention of stopping playing as a child and i countered that it was my hobby and "Dryer, plus I don't need to feed it" (His hobby is a tropical salt water aquarium, and another in my office also keeps tropical fish) which got a laugh and the subject was partially dropped. My other fish keeping colleague, noticing the set was a boat enthused about the possibility of putting it in for the fish to observe. Then on the flipside, the oger in the corner was quite scornful of those who made the effort to fetch a set (thankfully on another day to the one I had mine). But then it seems his hobby was the gym until all the diet regulation and excersize gave him a metabolic problem. Now it seems to be DIY... I may be using my LEGO shoulder bag tomorrow, who knows what kind of reaction it will have. (Then considering there is someone in my office who brings horsey gear, it should be ok!). -
EB 2011 Windsor Event: Program and information

I'm all booked up, my tickets are all sorted. I will arrive late in the morning (close to lunch likely) Anyone else going to be at Sunningdale station at 11:43am? We can split the taxi cost or what-have you (or could a lovely driver fetch me ) Heh, PM me if you need a mobi number. -
Ha haa! I wasn't the only one to call a figure Howard Carter! This looks like it will develope into something even more interesting than a well landscaped dune! Good Work

Oh, I'm sorry I only use italics online to denote sarcasm. I underline to stress a point (em-boldened text looks so gauche). It's a handy little bit of "netiquette" I developed within other internet comminities. RB? I hope you didn't mind me changing the name, it does avoid further issues in the future.

The TRON Legacy bonus tracks. I am also *ahem* collecting them.

Ok, so your post was totally over the top and offensive. This member uses a translator to post here and maybe the closest English word to his term of choice was Aborigine, maybe not the most correct word to use when translated, but I do not think he set out to offend, unlike your aim with your post. RB, I am going to change the title to Caveman (as that is the name of the figure) Ok?

EB 2011 Windsor Event: Program and information

Cool, just glad I won't be twiddling my thumbs in the hotel bar after I arrive (I mean, my last holiday where I was unable to meet others for a while, I just dumped my stuff and headed for the beach!) Once I get a confirm on how late I might stay on Sunday I can buy my tickets. -
Or the teeth removal method. Those cannines are sharp little blighters and are the ones most in use when someone sticks a figure head first into their mouth... (I wince everytime my brother does it). I have had two Jack's now and both are fine. Might just be a run that was shipped out to your neck of the woods.

My mother would sell me to get a Lego zoo! She loves the Lego animals, but I think it would become a safari park over a zoo (cages are mean). The whole ethical issue over a zoo might also be a problem. But no zoo buildings means sets that are just animals and scenery. I mean, Playmobile sell safari sets with lots of animals and some generic bushes/rocks but the appeal of that would be lost on the target market TLG would have in mind. After all, as mentioned earlier, kids want whizz and bang by the time they are allowed the little bricks.

Free LEGO promotion with UK Sun and News of the World
Peppermint_M replied to pedro's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Yes, they turn up in supermarkets later. I have seen plenty on hang tags on aisles, in baskets (like the kind footballs are often sold in) and sometimes just stacked in a box on the shelves. Both ASDA and TESCO have had some of the previous promo sets in stock. TIE Fighters, the Atlantis Mini Sub and some other Star Wars ones. The retail at about £1.99 -

So, what is happening on Wednesday with the us lot who are there? I am going to be there by about 10am what with my train. Taxi from the station (1 mile) Who else will be there before noon? Is there any sort of idea, or should I just de-camp to a pub -
That's a nice little scene but I think it is a better fit in the Special Themes where a dedicated bunch adore the collectable minifigures. I'll move it over there for all those chaps to look at.
-
Citation Needed I just looked it up and can't find anything on the wikipedia LEGO articles.
-
Oh god, minifigures in one of them? I would just be broke! I suppose they are a better method for you if you don't mind too much and like the completely random nature of it all. I mean, I stopped really collecting when all the cool imported ones stopped being sold in the comic book shop, but whenever I need a new phone charm or stylus for my DS, I'll use one (Currently on phone: A Mario Coin, current stylus, a [?] box topped one). Like I siad, there just aren't enough in the UK.

Mixed lots sometimes carry the risk of compatible brand and bootleg parts. Sometimes a picture can clue you in, many figures are really easy to spot and certain hallmarks on bricks can reveal whether they are 100% LEGO product. If you're ever concerned about a lot you find and can't figure it out yourself, message me (the user foremerly known as Queen of the Clone brands) I'll be happy to help

Awesome! I have loved these things since I first saw some in a supermarket. DS stylus, phone charms, keyrings, figures and a whole load of other junk I grab. The comic book shop used to have Final Fantasy ones and I managed a full set (and about 6 Noojes) along with .Hack. True they eat my money, but Lego polybags are even better than quirky things to hang off my handbag and phone. However I am unlikely to find any here selling Lego.

NEW! Who will come to the Event
Peppermint_M replied to Ras 74's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Well, My options are an 11am or 5pm train home, so I could stick around sunday but apart from checking out what the Travel Lodge/Holiday Inn/ Airport Hotel, I have no suggestions for overnight. -
It'll never happen. Just like how we won't get American Football Lego, we won't get Doctor Who Lego. It's nowhere near global enough for even profit making sales (in the way TLG sees it). Character have the license for Doctor Who toys and will not give that up as long as it makes money. The sets and figures they sell are great quality and 100% compatible (though some figure parts won't match up) so be happy there is any form of Doctor Who building toy!

Hurrah! The perfect way to put it! Also, would you like to be en-pinkened and added to the ladies group? -
Oh you could say I dabble. I love to MOC and there are some themes that I have liked all through my life no matter what medium it is: Adventure/Exploration, Flight, Scince Fiction, Castles and Racing, with a brief passion for being a Pirate (I used to wear a bandanna and pasted homemade flags above my bed boat). Of course, this means that the things I build follow along those lines too. I think I have only ever collected the entire line of one theme: Speed Racer, the rest is manic picking of cheaper sets (£10 and under) over the course of a wave and if something is on sale or clearance at the supermarket, usualy I'll go for that too. If a theme really catches my attention, I might buy more of it, but rarely do I want the biggest sets. Just one small aside, I only buy Star Wars battlepacks, except this year (without knowing exactly why) there is just no appeal from even those. I am not a fan of it and they simply make a useful parts pack for my figure building/an investment if I ever do need to make a bit of money quick. LEGO is only limited by your imagination, so if a certain theme strikes me, I will be buying a lot of it. Pharaoh's Quest and Kingdoms so far this year, with a great anticipation for Alien Conquest later. The collectable minifigures are also a "theme" I stick too.

Selling Harry Potter Lego
Peppermint_M replied to Peppermint_M's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well, I e-mailed my friend with the results of my searches, he will be back to me on what he would like for them (it was his childhood collection, so he isn't an AFOL who knows how and where to look). I should be able to get back to you soon! -

Maaaan, travel is a pain in the bum. This is getting hard to figure out! Getting to Paddington is easy, it's the hotel that is awkward. I am confused, far far too confused. Also, how late are people staying on the sunday? I can get travel tickets cheaper if I book to a time, but I do not want to get one at a stupid hard to get on time. I might just buy the open return to free up. But then there is the off-peak and I am so hacked off at this. -
This is all the older yellow figured sets from the first time. My friend is moving to Scotland, (or something like that) and is selling his old sets. They are all complete and in boxes (slightly battered boxes) but have been opened and played with. From a smoke free home and he is the sort to keep animals far far away from his stuff. He has: 4701 Sorting Hat 4704 Room of flying Keys 4706 Fluffy and the Devil's Snare 4708 Hogwarts Express 4709 Hogwarts Castle 4722 Gryffindor Common Room 4726 Quidditch 4727 Aragog 4728 Escape from the Dursleys 4730 Chamber of Secrets 4731 Dobby's freedom 4733 The Duelling Club Would like a good price, I have been checking prices and information online, I know my stuff! Postage cost will be as it costs from the post office. Shipping from the UK.

Um, do you mean the starred group name? That would be a rank/ user group and more is explained here.
