This is a very disappointing series, especially after 2 themed series before.... The Rogue is awesome, but everything else is mediocre for me. There are a few figs I wouldn't mind having (Mariachi, Arabian Knight, Ice Queen), but the Mariachi is the ONLY figure to include new pieces that I want - the Sombrero and the guitar. The Arabian Knight was a huge opportunity, that is just a huge miss with rehashed parts. The scimitar is a horrible piece, and Dark Green for the turban? Really? Where in the world did that come from? The banana suit guy, the penguin guy and the penguin are all kitchy, but not particularly useful. The Cyborg is OK, the Scallywag hairpiece is OK, the spy is OK, lots and lots of OK figs/parts. This is the first series I will only be army building a single figure from, and we probably wont' see another standard series for a year. So sad...

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

There was another separate discussion on Drow, but I have no idea where it is now, Gen discussion a year back? If you check my flicker page (above) I have had Drow in a number of builds, and have a specific army of them (even though it's only 20-30) -
If they would have had all 3 colors, I probably would have picked up another 30 or 40, but I only need so many brown horses. Also, at the time, they were available for about $0.50 more on Bricklink, so a decent deal (IMO). It's nothing like finding Gray 2x2 tiles or snot bricks on the wall, or leaves. Those are the great deals for me. My Lego store currently has cats, laptops, dk green hoods, red hoods and spartan torsos in the BaM, which was 20% off all last month. That was also much more exciting for me personally, or when they had seagulls last year.

We've had them here in Wisconsin a couple of times, and I fit 8 or 9 in a small cup, picked up 16 of them or so. It came out to ~$1 each, so a decent deal.

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Rogue Angel replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
No problem! The tasks can be part of a larger diorama, but should not be the same pictures as another task. Your task 1 picture should look completely different from your task 2 picture, even though you may be using some of the same figs. They should be posed differently, and in different locations. It's fine to use a task picture for your sigfig though. -
Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

So I will start this off: 1. I am still around, and I visit this page daily to see what has been going on. 2. I am building for Brickworld, and I have a large Star Wars build, and a large Avalonian Town that I will be displaying. 3. My flickr page is probably the best place to view my work. https://www.flickr.com/photos/29025875@N06/ 4. I competed in each of the challenges in Book I. I have not technically participated in any Book II challenges. I have completed tasks 1-3, but have not yet completed tasks 4 and 5. I have done a little bit of Task 4 previously, but my upcoming build should get me to a City-level for a new town I am working on. (If I can get those last couple of buildings completed before Brickworld) -

It seems I haven't done proper welcomes in a while, so... Welcome Keter, Asad, Brickwolf, LuckyPat, Sorrelon, Jonsi, MLongworth, Maestro and Columbus019. For those of you who have not yet posted sigfigs and formally introduced yourselves yet, that is what makes you an official Avalonians. A couple task-related items: Each task is meant to be it's own, well, task. You cannot use one build for multiple tasks. (There are exceptions where the same build might be used for 2, but not any more than that) Each task post should be accompanied with a description of who/what you are showing. We need to know what we are seeing, and that it is a task entry. Task 1: This should be your military/army/soldiers/militia, etc. Task 2: This should be your sigfig's associates, which can include soldiers, but should usually include specific figures that assist your sigfig, and regularly travel with them. Task 3: This should be a description, with some links to pictures (non-lego) that give us an idea as to what your realm looks like. This is the only real non-lego task. Task 4: Each entry for this task needs to be a substantial build. This doesn't mean it needs to be huge, but it should be at least 16x32 PER entry for your village/hamlet/town/city. You can't have 10 entries on 2 baseplates. Task 5: Your stronghold needs to be your own creation. You cannot use Lego sets for this build. Tasks are in place to both introduce your character/realm, and provide some inspiration for building over a while. Barely any Avalonians have completed all 5 tasks yet, and task 4 is ever evolving. There is no hurry here. Semi-Annual update I build for two major display yearly, Brickworld in mid-June, and a local display at the end of November. I will be trying to update this page and the map at the end of June, so please let me know if you Avalonians are still paying attention by the end of May. Please reply in this format. 1. Are you still around? It is fine if you are just watching the thread, but not actively participating. Just let me know that you still check in daily, weekly or monthly. 2. What are you working on? This can be Nothing, or other Lego projects un-related to GoH, or maybe you are working on something Avalonian, like I am. 3. Where is the best play to see your work? Please provide a website address to your Brickshelf/Flickr/Smugmug page. 4. What Challenges and tasks have you completed? If you want to include links to your builds, that would be great, but by no means necessary. I would much rather know what you've done by your accounts. Feel free to include minichallenges as well. This will help me enormously in cleaning up the first post, so thanks in advance. (P.S., Anyone that does not respond will be listed as a "Legacy" Avalonian instead of Active.) -

I wish her base only extended to her waist, she would have had more use. Alice and Ariel's hairpieces may be useful too. It's great to finally get another middle eastern figure with Alladin. -

I've picked up four of them. Malificent, Peter Pan and Alladin may be useful.. -
These are excellent, especially the shell and banana bunch!

Excellent build! Nice road details and roofing, and the offset from your white walls to your timbers is great! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Rogue Angel replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Ninjago has some great ninja/oriental torsos, then a smattering of decent bad guy torsos for castle, but they often put an emblem on them that ruins their usefulness. The sky pirates torsos would have been awesome if they didn't have those stupid pirate head emblems on them. Such a missed opportunity. Also, the temple is a great example of how figures from the extended Ninjago universe are surprisingly useless for castle/historic builds. -

For me, I have not purchased a single Simpsons figure, so those 2 CMFs have been of no use to me. At least with Disney series I will pick up 3 or 4 figures, which is something. -
This would be a major waste. We would essentially be getting a new torso and that's it. That would be VERY disappointing. I don't look for CMFs to give me rehashes of existing pieces. A recolor of the turban would be OK, I guess, but black and white are the common colors, and we have those already. While do red would be fine, it would be limited in use, and not necessary. A new helmet or hat would be much better.

Excellent, compact build! I love the hand-grass and the chimney. Beautiful!

Yeah, the Kardashians are "succesful" too. Why would Lego put out a regular Castle line when they have their Space-castle soup that's so "succesful", especially with Elves alongside? I expect it will be a little while before we see another regular castle line. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Rogue Angel replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It is frustrating that we are down to one real CMF series a year. For myself, Disney, Ninjago and Batman are are all of very limited use. I may buy 5 or 6 figs from each (if that) while I will typically buy 40-75 of each standard series and be able to significantly augment my collection. It will save me money, but without castle and with Star Wars getting ridiculously expensive, I haven't been buying much new Lego as it is. -

You would have to get Derfel's permission to use him. -

If you've ever been to a third world slum, this is a pretty good representation. -

We've been getting 10-16 new molds per series since series 4, at $3.00 each, so no, we're not getting more new molds for $4. Simpsons probably did, but again, that was also licensed, which is not the discussion at hand.
