I was mostly talking about the ships and the soldiers' uniforms. I liked the 2009 redcoats and thought they were an improvement but I'm not too crazy about the new bluecoats. The prints look nice but I find the blue colour too bright. It just looks like a different shade of blue and it looks off, the colours on the original soldiers were more harmonious for some reason.

Not as a LEGO Ideas set but there's still a chance we might see something similar in size to the Arkham Asylum set in the DC Super Heroes theme.
-
Sure but then maybe they should mention it somewhere in their rules and stop giving people false hope by featuring some of the big sets in their staff picks. Looking at this last review and the next one, it seems big sets is what people want. The majority of the ideas reviewed recently features pretty huge sets and it kinda looks like Wall-E won by default this time.

To be fair, TLG would never be able to do this MOC justice. An official set would either be disappointing or very pricey. Anyways, thanks for sharing your creation with us, Sergio. I came across it some time ago while looking for LEGO GB pics and I was (and still am) really impressed by the amount of details.

I was more looking forward to the Ghostbusters firehouse but like the Batman and X-men submissions, I supposed it was too big for a LEGO Ideas set. They typically go for smaller or medium sets, probably because of the more affordable price and because it is easier for them to make those sets without new pieces.

Meh, I've never really managed to get into Dr Who. It's really nice for the fans though, I know there's a lot of them out there. It looks like TLG is getting all the licenses Cobi used to own.

That's a possibility but it would be a bit disappointing to get the same vehicle model twice. Maybe it's a different vehicle after all, or maybe they changed the colour for the promo pic. Now that you mention the minifigs, I just realised there doesn't seem to be a lot of main characters in the new movie. Judging from the trailers, we just have Chris Pratt, the two kids, the new park manager and maybe that Patel guy. I'm glad we'll get Henry Wu though and (most likely) a few of those ACU guards. I also wonder who the guy in the cowboy hat is (he's maneuvering the crane on the promo pic). If they expand the theme and start making sets based on the first 3 movies, I'd really love to see Grant, Malcolm and Muldoon... well the whole cast really but especially those 3 characters.

The prints really are the best things about these new sets. I really like the governor/officer torso. Speaking of new prints, I found a good comparison shot of the 3 pirate captains on Flickr: https://www.flickr.c...jey/16231914628 (the new silver hook really looks nice) There's also one of the pirates: https://www.flickr.c...ey/16232170660/ And in case anyone is interested, the new "exclusive" pirate from the Juniors set here and here. (If those Flickr users are registered EB members and want to post those pics themselves, let me know and I'll edit my post)

Well colourful buildings really aren't a rare occurence in the Caribbean. I'm assuming that's what they were going for. The structures in the modern sets still are pretty bright.

The use of yellow really isn't that weird as you can see here. I have the exact opposite impression when I look at both ships: the darker colours make the BSB look more menacing imo (which is what you expect of a pirate ship), while the new ship looks way more toyish with all that light brown. The bright colours might have worked on an imperial ship (and if more details were added) but here it just looks off to me.

I meant the bigger armored vehicle, my mistake. You can see it briefly in the new super bowl trailer at 00:19 (right side of the screen). I'm not sure it will play a big part in this movie though. Also, I noticed the classic Jeep will appear in JW, maybe that's the one we'll get in the dilophosaurus set... but then I wonder why it appears in the JW blue and gray colour scheme on the promo pic. From what I understand, a good chunk of the island is still in quarantine. Maybe the dilophosaurus still roam free in that area but aren't part of the dinos showcased in the park. Also, the JW database seems incomplete, the raptors aren't mentioned in it either.

I think we might have some smaller builds used as scenery but the line will porbably focus more on the vehicles (and the dinosaurs obviously), much like in the Dino theme. There will definitely be another somewhat big vehicle in the T-rex Tracker set, maybe the Mercedes or the armoured vehicle (fingers crossed for the latter).

Nice! Looks like I was right and the vehicle Owen is standing on in the promo pic is a classic JP Jeep with JW colours. Now I'm just wondering why they're using old Jeeps when they have more modern vehicles at their disposal. Also, it's still unclear if this will be in the movie but it looks pretty darn cool.

I must say that I'm a bit disappointed by this theme. Most of the sets look incomplete and the ship is way too similar to the 2009 one. It doesn't seem like much effort was put into this theme. The only set I'm considering buying is the Soldiers Fort (and that's mostly because of the minifigs) but it really pales in comparison to the 2009 version. I'd say it's due to the bright colours they chose, it's the same issue with the last Castle line. Most colours were darker in the classic Pirates theme, not to mention the sets also used a lot of dark gray and black pieces. Just compare the new pirate ship with the Black Seas Barracuda, or even the 2015 soldiers with their classic counterparts.

I'm not so sure, they chose a neutral look for the human minifigs (which is good) but Scooby's appearance seems to be somewhere in between the classic and the new look.

Getting Bard with Bain makes a little more sense at least but yeah, it still is a lame exclusive minifig.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
Elrond replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I hope so. I'm still catching up with the tv series and I'm almost done with season 2. So far I'd say there's room for more minifigs but maybe not for actual sets. This series was clearly made to sell action figures, not really to sell construction toys. I'm guessing the movie was much more popular among the target demographic but since two of the three movie sets are very similar to some of the sets from the first wave, I'm wondering if that had an impact on sales. -

If the line got cancelled, I wonder if the movie sets are to blame and TLG was disappointed in the sales for the TMNT theme. It's a shame anyway, even though the movie sucked, those sets had better builds imo. -
Makes sense but can TLG already start showing off their new products at various cons across Europe and the US? It could be considered as a form of advertisement.

I'm still trying to figure out what that vehicle in the bottom right corner is. It doesn't look like anything we've seen in the leaked promo pics. If anything it kinda looks like a JW version of the classic Jeep Wrangler from the first movie. Yup, that was also my impression when I saw those prices. With 2 velociraptor sets in the line, I was expecting one of them would have a lower price.

Well the sets are still on their website but the thing is I'm not sure about whether or not they can advertise for older products when they no longer have the license rights.

I was really surprised when the news of a Lego Scooby theme came out, especially considering Cobi/Character Building still owns the rights to the license. I'm assuming the sets will be based on the new 2015 series. I'm not too crazy about the new character designs but it'll be interesting to see how TLG will turn them into minifigs.

That's true and I mentioned it in my post but the fact they chose to produce sets based on irrelevant scenes whereas the more important ones were being ignored makes it even more frustrating to me.
-
Well the LotR sets are more appealing to me too but only because LotR is a better trilogy than the Hobbit and had more memorable scenes. However, I was evaluating how TLG handled both licenses and it's pretty obvious they did a better job with the Hobbit. Minifigs were a source of disappointment in both cases but the Hobbit sets covered most of the significant scenes. That was definitely not the case for LotR. Like I said, almost half of the LotR sets are superfluous. Stuff like the orc forge, the pirate ship or Gandalf Arrives never should have been released before the Balrog, Osgiliath or Minas Tirith sets. As for the armies, the only one you can really build somewhat easily is Isengard (maybe Mordor too, if you don't mind having an orc clone army). There is no easy or cheap way to build a Rohan army considering you only get 1 soldier in a medium size set... not to mention all your Rohirrims would look the same too if you chose to do it nonetheless. Oh and the Fellowship isn't really an army.

Tough one... I'd say 7.5/10 for the Hobbit. On the + side - The sets pretty much covered all important scenes from the movies - The minifigs we got looked pretty good and had a lot of new pieces - Smaug. The set he's in is way too expensive though. On the - side - Still disappointing in the figure department (no Bolg, no armoured Azog, no Elven soldiers, no Dwarven soldiers, no Orc soldiers... pretty annoying considering the 3rd film is basically a >2 hours battle scene) - Some of the sets felt a little unnecessary or repetitive (3 Dol Guldur sets was a little too much). 5.5/10 for LotR On the + side - Some truly brilliant sets (Mines of Moria, Helm's Deep, Orthanc) - Great minifigs On the - side - No battle packs. A completely missed opportunity, LotR was just perfect for army-building sets - Some very poor decisions were made regarding the set selection. Almost half of the sets are either redundant or superfluous. - Most factions are underrepresented or even completely ignored (we have 1 Rohirrim, 1 Elven soldier, 1 Mordor Orc print and most importantly, nothing for Gondor!!!). It kinda feels like The Hobbit got too many waves while LotR didn't get enough. What we got ranged from ok to excellent though but we just could have gotten so much more... looking back at these themes, everyone will probably have the same thought: "wasted opportunities".
