  1. For my entry, I have chosen the pivotal scene in The Ballad of Halo Jones, written by Alan Moore and illustrated Ian Gibson. For those who don't know it, this is a pretty hard-hitting space opera that was serialised in the British comic 2000AD. In this scene, Halo Jones meets and later saves the life of the Rat King on the starship Clara Pandy. The Rat King is subsequently used illegally by her lover General Cannibal to start ratwar, spreading plague, madness and death on a global scale. Halo Jones was a soldier in the wars for many years and on learning what the General has done...well, you should read it! Any way, no mecha here. This simple build is quite a departure from my normal style. In tribute to the origin of the scene, I have mangafied it too
  2. Thanks guys for all your kind comments. This was a lot of fun. I have never really tried this before, there's so much you can do with micro! Ha ha, I wish! No, this is just for the MSFC contest. Great idea though! Yeah, it's a lot of ships, I had too many good ideas. The micro ships came before the landscape I hope the composition allows you to see them all clearly in terms of colour contrast and arrangement. Quite a lot of thought went into it. I toyed with the idea of a micro space station to show them off, but decided I liked this more as it gave me a chance to do historic buildings. Now there's a great idea! Apologies for the bump, I have changed the photos
  3. Welcome back! I have been looking forward to this for a while, can't wait to see how Masoch's encounter will change the destiny of humanity Glad you weren't being pummeled in prison
  4. Threatened with extinction by the evil forces of Victor Revolword and the Hand of Corruption, the people of Akhbesh turned to religion. They sought the help of the thousand year old Pharaoh Priest King Amset Ra, and his advice was good. "Call the wise ones", he said. "These evil armies will not turn aside, so move the city instead." And so, he called the Ace Trucking Company, which sent an old tug to lift out the city. Unknown to the inhabitants and to Ace Trucking, there was a sea serpent in the lake. Well, Ace Trucking called pest control, and pest control sent in a giant red crab to catch the serpent. The fight between crab and serpent went on for days, and became quite a must-see for tourists and backpackers in the sector. People came from as far as Zoidia and Gotham just to watch it. Trade had never been so good for the local innkeeper. link to flickr set
  5. Nope, I am putting my creative flows into the scifi contests this weekend. Historica resumes in February for me. I have some ideas on challenge 6, but nothing good enough to start building. I find the epic scale of this challenge is intimidating, I have to bring it down to something simple. I really got a lot of good ideas from our discussion in the Kali thread a few pages back, but I haven't found a way to express them yet. There seems to be quite a lot of "post a minifig to get a freebuild point" going on right now in GoH. Not sure whether to beat 'em or join 'em. Lots of respect to the excellent freebuilds we are seeing which are not on these lines, like Z's house and kabel's ambush.
  6. Z, thanks for all your inputs in this thread. Much appreciated.
  7. I'm pretty sure you could bricklink this for $20. I hope you would not KILL for $20.
  8. Gabe! Welcome back, brother! It's great to have you back. I was very sorry to hear about your health, we have had quite a bit of bad luck in the guild over the year with health and jobs and so on. I very much hope you are recovered - your building skills certainly have! I am suddenly feeling a lot better about our chances for Challenge 6 now you're back - not to mention the 10 squillion freebuild points for your SHIP.
  9. Welcome back Beery, nice to see you causing havoc again. Congratulations on cutting off Avalonian oil supplies in midwinter. The blackmarket price is up 50% and our seaborne routes are flourishing. If only Avalonia had anything worth importing, there's not much of a market in exquisite green leggings and fal-de-rols in wartime... I really fear for your balance of payments, and our terms of credit are strictly enforced. Guess you'll have to burn all your trees to stay warm. Your men are welcome to spend their few remaining coins enriching the merchants of Eastgate. Kaliphlin welcomes all immigrants. Oh, and I hope your piggy skellies know how to charm the giant worms of Kaliphlin. Just in case...
  10. Pigs in Space! Awesome! What a fantastic idea, and very nicely realised.
  11. And they all lived Happily Ever After. Strip Beer Pong, brilliant idea!
  12. Wow, these prizes are incredible. Thanks Si-MOCs! It seems to me the FAPC prizes are quite a step up from the micro sci-fi build which I have been concentrating on so far. My FAPC idea is of course brilliant although rather obscure... may have to re-think...
  13. Good news, looks like CBB's status has been upgraded a notch. Rooting for ya!
  14. Current debate in Kaliphlin - how can we do something original and interesting to win the competition? Current deabte in Mitgardia - Snow, Snow, we like snow. And snow. Castles and snow. Current debate in Avalonia - Is this the guild with the nicest tights? Current debate in Nocturnus - eerie whistling noises Er....Who are the lunatics? Even worse, this conspiracy goes all the way to the top. There are 4 Evil Puppet Masters above Victor! And, there is good in him still.... Actually, this one I like a lot What about a Victor's childhood flashback prologue/montage?
  15. Honeytrap? Would Victor ever sing , "I'm so ronery?"
  16. Totally agreed. His comments in the Hobbit thread were a little over the line so I can see why the Mods took action, but I very much hope he returns soon....in the meantime, I hope his build points for the Hippies don't retrospectively vanish.... I'm excited by this too. Lego is in such a sweet spot for Space right now with all these awesome figs. Really enjoying my Sci-fi micro build, it's so different. Have to admit, it is taking over Historica build time though. I hope a lot of Historicans will come through the Gate if it's the same deal - or maybe the Sci-fi version will have some elements of the LCC game which appears to have kept some of our former members. Anyway, I'm sure it will be awesome.
  17. Well, we're safe in the sacred sites and we've got food and water, so why risk dying? I am thinking how to differentiate. I predict most stories will be "there was a big fight which we won and we all lived happily ever after", especially from our friends to the West and North - I can't compete on building time, bricks or skill on that one. So, how to differentiate? There wasn't a fight and Victor had a heart attack? We lose the fight? The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man turns up and we cross the streams? Victor killed by spies? The 4 champions escape somehow? An epic multi-generational rags to riches to rags to riches story of dynastic feuds and boddice-ripping romance? Just kicking ideas around. This challenge is judged not voted, so what will appeal to our overlords?

    MOC: The Bat

This is one of the best Bat versions I've seen. Nice tumbler too. Great job!
  19. Gorgeous panelling! Another great build. Is there any interior?
  20. Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, I was here. Just a little Planet of The Apes tribute while procrastinating on the micro sci-fi build.
  21. Life is never easy at the Temple compound, but everyone is alive. I go riding with Gwendolen around the island sometimes, I had heard tales of ancient and powerful artefacts from the monks. They sometimes found objects they couldn't explain while they were digging in the catacombs. On one of our rides we came across an ancient statue, weathered, eroded and nearly covered by the sands. I don't know who built it, but maybe it's a clue to Historica and to defeating Revolword. Yours Aye, Rasputin
  22. Oh my goodness. First Angeli, now this? What is it about GoH? Come back CBB!
  23. Usually the figures sold on ebay and bricklink are the correct ones you order, in my experience. You may have to pay more to get them though
  24. Not only will it work, it will be awesome! I am going down a similar path, I have stumbled into issues around colour palettes that are holding me back right now (white ships in white city, no no no). Looking forward to seeing what you come up with
  25. For Challenge 6, I guess everyone is planning some sort of gigantic battle and they all lived happily ever after? I am thinking, what in the world would convince us to leave the safety of the sacred sites? I might just sit and wait for Victor to run out of food, even if it takes 50 years.
