Yes - I know it's perfectly acceptable, but do people think it looks good? I know I only think it looks good if it has been blended in very well with eachother

I've begun practising building rocks and I have numerous dark grey BURPS and LURPS and also quite a lot of dark grey slopes in different shapes, so it should be possible to build some rocks for any kind of MOCs that has rock formations. I have even more dark bluish grey slopes in different shapes and also inverted slopes, so it would be natural to add these bricks onto an already built "dark grey" rock formation. BUT - What do you people like to see in MOCs? Do you like to see rocks with different shades of grey, or do you prefer a rock to be in one colour and one colour only, or do you think it's okay to look at rock formations that have a mixture of dark grey and dark bluish grey bricks? The same applies to light grey mixed with light bluish grey bricks? And what about a mix of light and dark bricks? I myself like to see MOCs that have rocks in the same shade of grey throughout the entire rock formation - UNLESS it's really well put together

Hmm - I did some photoshopping to light up the trans yellow bricks, but I'm not sure I like it all that much. Maybe I overdid it? I'm having huge difficulties creating a swivel chair, and besides, it won't fit inside the MOC without hiding other details in the room

Thanks By clicking them, I support classic-pirates.com, no? -
I've photoshopped the trans yellow bricks - is that even okay? I took my MOC outside in the sunshine and turned of the flash on my camera. I hope the pictures are better now? EDIT: removed the pics from here, and posted them in my first post of this thread I still hope that it's okay to edit some details in photoshop - otherwise, I must know before the end of the competition, so I can post pictures without those photoshopped effects.

Thanks - you guys gave me a lot to work with :) I'll try to pick out a few small brown tiles for wood and some orange red and yellow for embers It will definitely be a challenge to build a swivel chair. The thought had crossed my mind, but I dropped the idea early on because I thought it would be too dificult. But I'll surely try again. I had an idea of putting some weapons and the old admiral's hat and uniform up in the attic, so maybe I'll try that idea too. The Cuckoo clock would be interesting for sure, but I doubt that there is any room for it inside the house. I didn't know that I was allowed to create effects in Photoshop? If that's allowed, then it could be fun to try and make the fire place look even more alive than right now. Thanks for the feedback guys

Hi guys I decided to change some things in this MOC as per your excellent advice. The only thing that was impossible to do, was to insert a nice cosy chair for Grandpa: There is simply no room for such luxury in the space of 7x7 studs But instead I added a fireplace, a new chandelier and changed the curtains a little bit. I also removed some grey round bricks at the very top of the outside of the house and changed the ceiling a little bit. I added a black chimney, and finally I decided to make the attic more interesting by laying out some hay and placing two treasure maps there, even though there had been no mentioning of improving that specific area. I just felt that it would make it more interesting to have more than two "layers" of story-telling in the MOC - so now there's something going on in the basement, the living room and on the attic, while I still managed to keep the MOC interesting from all angles also on the outside. I'm quite happy with the changes, although I kind of miss the table in front of the window.

Gotta love LEGO - they aim to please

It's not a PTVII entry - but should have been. It is so damn good

I was thinking of it, but I don't have one. A brickbuilt one might be too big

Hi guys I'm working on a different chandelier for the interior of the house. I've created a big comfortable Grandpa chair and a fireplace, which I will use instead of the table the small stool, and the plant. The space is indeed VERY limited on an 8x8 plate - which actually is only 8x7 because of the wall taking up 1 stud of space in the living room. (EDiT: The space is s of course limited to only 7x7 when I don't count the walls of the house.) Otium is the danish word for retirement. I just thought that it was used in English too I'll edit my first post so it says "retirement" instead. I'm thinking of making the roof a little longer, so it covers up a little more of the brown area at the top of the house. Lastly I'll maybe re-design a bit of the black bottom of the outside of the house. The grey round 1x1 bricks are supposed to represent small grey stones in the wall <- consider it as larger rocks surrounded by smaller rocks that have been painted with sturdy black tar. The small stones/rocks in the brown area at the top of the building should be changed into something else. The reason they're there are because there would be holes in the wall if I didn't put anything there. I just need to figure out what to place instead of them. It's all because I wanted to present a MOC that was interesting from all sides - which makes it much harder because you can't always hide what's on the back side because there is no back side. I think I'll be able to take new better pictures tomorrow. I'll make sure they aren't blurry, crooked or anything else Once again thanks for the criticism - It helps a lot

Wow - this looks very cool. I can't wait to see your PTVII entry if this is the standard

Parrot's Perch Pub PTV2 Contest Entry -medium

Have you tried to build a spiral staircase? It doesn't take up as much space. -
I must say, I like this updated version much better. It's so great to see how a buch of people's criticism can help somebedy improve a MOC like that. I really hope you get the chance to take some better pictures before the end of the competition.

I've watched this MOC from the beginning, and I've enjoyed seing your improvements. It's great to see that people's ideas help you create something new and via that experience, help you become an even better MOCer :) I really like your entry but maybe you should try to take even better photos. The most important thing when you do this, is to have loads of light. LOADS!! Using a flash also helps taking sharper pictures. If you want to take pictures of something very close up, you should use the function called "macro" which usually is a button that looks like a tulip flower. And maybe you should consider showing us the table and the two minifigs in close-up and from the right side of the MOC, instead of showing us the black roof, which is not quite as interesting.
-
While I do like the idea and your use of minifigs, and the smaller details, I really feel that the rocky structure needs a lot of work. Right now it demands all the attention in the pictures. Perhaps if you rebuilt it completely, it would fit in better with the rest of the detailed things you've created. I know it's extremely difficult to build rocks and cliffs etc (I've only just begun myself) but you can find great inspiration here - it is a comprehensive guide found on classic-castle.com - there are numerous examples of different rock formations. I hope you can find the inspiration to re-create the rock, because if you can, I would think that you would have a much better chance in the competition.

Yes - I really like your updated entry. I haven't had the time to comment on this before now, but I must say, I like it very much. The roof could use some tiles too, but I know people do not have limited amounts of tiles. I really like your fireworks, your Pinata the guy pouring rum into to large bowl, the very structure and the design of the building is also great, and it's not very common these days to create something with a mixture of white/yellow for houses, but you've done a really great job at making them look great together. I am especially impressed with your choice of minifig heads. They really all seem to fit with what's going on: i.e. the pirate pouring rum in the bowl, the soldiers on the roof playing wtih all the fireworks. There's really a party going on and I think you've achieved to show it in this MOC.
-
I have nothing but posiitive things to say about this: The building looks great, I like how you've made the floor, and the small bench is a good idea too. I also like the burnt out candle and the ceiling. The choice of minifig is very well thought of too, and the idea that we don't know who's outside is really great. It gives us the same feeling as we do in horror movies. Sometimes there's nothing dangerous going, and other times the star of the movie (in this case the star of the MOC) better watch out. I love that idea, and I love how you've managed to put it into LEGO. You need to to resize the pictures though, as we are only allowed to put pics of 800x600 pixels in the entry thread. If you then want to show us bigger pictures, you have to link to them, like you already did with the other pictures. Good luck in the competition.

I am speechless. I love it.

Excellent MOC. I don't think there's much that need to change in this one. It looks very professional and the idea and story are great. Let's start from the top :) I love your roof technique, and the mixture of colours on the roof is wonderful. The actual building looks great too, and you've done a great job adding the small 1x1 dark bley slopes above each window. The round cylinders just below the roof works really well. I like the plants creeping up the wall on the left hand side of the house, but I think that the spider is too big compared to the rest. Are all the round 1x1 bricks in the window frames flowers? Either way they look great and gives the house more life. The bystander dropping his red wine is a really funny idea, and it's great to see more than the two minifigs implicated in your story. The docks looks awesome too. Its' kind of dangerous to stand on it because there are so many holes in it. Excellent :) I like how I can see below the planks in the back, that you've used these brown bricks. I'm not sure what that yellow brick is doing there though. Maybe you should replace that with a brown or dark bley brick. I laughed when I saw the old sea dog standing there with his tiny fish and that expression on his face, when he sees that huge swordfish jumping out of the water. The swordfish is, by the way, the essential part of your MOC if you ask me. It looks very vivid and full of action, even though it's all LEGO bricks that don't move one bit. Fantastic job. It speaks for itself when that part of you MOC is the best, after I've already told you how much I like all the other parts of your MOC. Good luck in the competition, I think you are one of the medium category favourites right now.

That would be very fun to try - I think I'll give it a go. I'll remove the table in front of the window and the tiny stool behind the boy. If I do that, it should be possible. Also the curtain I've made is actually a little too big, so I should be able to create some space and try to make a grandpa chair and a small fireplace. Thank for all the nice comment so far, it means a lot considering it's my first time doing this
