Meeting of two frigates: Achille and Vesta
Admiral Croissant replied to Admiral Croissant's topic in Pirate MOCs
Thanks for all the comments! Yeah that would have been nice indeed. I'll take it in mind next time I do this Thanks Captain! We did indeed talk about naval tactics. I think you should push your faction a little harder to build good ships. We have the same amount of votes in the "Favourite imperial faction!" topic. You are giving good comments already though. Yes that would be a great idea. Perhaps it's possible to have the ships of CGH, Bonaparte, Blackmoor, Perfectionist and me at Legoworld, Zwolle next year That would make a nice display! Yeah, some 'flow lines' as Aalak said would also be nice, but this doesn't look bad either. And I did it all with paint That was indeed too bad. I think the second picture would have been better for editing, but I got it only after I finished the first one.Especially the red lines of the Achille look much better in real, but anyway. It's still quite a nice picture -
I like your customs. The pirate hat may be a little cartoonish but it looks very professional But I don't really see the point of this thread being a "lego photography" thread. I mean, isn't the entire MOC forum there so we can share any photography relating to LEGO Pirates? What exactly is the added value of this thread?

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
Admiral Croissant replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It's getting better every time I look here (which is actually quite logical ) It already has a very natural feeling with all the curves and elevation. Perhaps you're already planning to do this, but some more/different shades of brown and green may also be a good idea. The bridge is also great. The roof is perhaps a bit 'expensive' for a country bridge, but it does make it more interesting and that's also important in a MOC. Good luck! -
Nice It has all the things it should have: a voodoo doll (ofcourse), a telescope, a swamp, spiders, etc. The curved spikes(?) and hanging plants also give it a mysterious feeling. Perhaps you could also use the green from the top roof for the swamp colour next time but outside of that it's a nice MOC

Considering that some people here spend years on their Lego ship, one weekend is a bit short to make a real good, realistic one. But anyway, I like your colourscheme, and the stern is quite good as well, except for that it's a bit too square IMO. And I like the checkered floor in the cabin You also did a rather good job on the sails and rigging, but it can be improved a little: The shapes of the sails aren't right here, but it does show where they are usually placed and I've also added a few yards (in red). Good luck!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 5 discussion
Admiral Croissant replied to eiker86's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I believe I've already seen these in some dim video, but I haven't seen such clear pictures yet. Things I like the most are the guard with his brown musket, the boxer with gloves and the clown with his cake. But actually I like them all Thanks for sharing these pic's. -
Looks quite good already. The brown colour looks nice, although some different colours for decorations would be nice as well in the future. The techniques you're using are also good, and especially the bird's eye view looks excellent. I have two suggestions: The gunport line and the line of the slopes on the bottom aren't curved at all. Perhaps a small curve would look nice. And I think your figurehead (sceg?) part in the front is too long. I would reduce it by 4 or 5 bricks, unless you're making a 17th century ship. Then it can be a little longer. And I think you can remove the 2 plates on the sides there. On the stern the curves are good already IMO and I like how you made/attached the rudder. Keep it up and good luck!

This is an important historical event. Both Bluecoats and Redcoats have 103 points! Who's going to take the lead now...?
-
Beautiful! You managed to get it very close to the original and put a lot of nice techniques in it. My favourite part is the balcony and the details around it. Well done

The Penguin's Batman Minifigures. )
Admiral Croissant replied to The Penguin's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Agreed! The clown's torso is a bit chaotic but you can still recognize some towers and a hammer on it.And the Zeus is just fantastic I'm missing the hats on the ladies's heads, but I guess that's just difficult to do. Outside of that they look good. -
Perhaps this is useful: It may seem a bit chaotic, but I made the correct lenth of the 3 mast parts red. In the corner you can see how the figurehead/bow part of your ship can be improved. And you can also see that (if you want to take this ship for reference) you could place the fore mast even more forward.
-
It's only too bad that the main sections of all the masts are too long compared to the other sections. But outside of that it's a beautiful frigate! It has definitely improved a lot lately. The hoses for the headrails look excellent on your ship and really make we want to do the same on the Vesta as soon as I have the time/money. I made my sails with an old piece of cloth. I put it in black tea for a night. Then I made vertical lines on it with a pencil (1 cm between them) On the edges I made brown lines which represent the ropes that are on the sides of real sails. And finally it's very useful to put some varnish, nail polish (? not sure, I believe Perfectionist did that) or glue on the edges. That's for preventing the edges from unrafeling. Good luck on this beauty!

I like the colourscheme a lot and the mast and sail arrangements look good as well. I do have some suggestions for improvements though: Perhaps making the stern details white too, instead of yellow, will look better. But that could be some personal taste. The highest yard of the spanker sail is too long IMO. I already showed a better example in your frigate thread. You could do the same here. And finally, this ship has almost the same width everywhere. It will look much better if you make it more narrow towards the stern. It will already look better if you remove the roofs of the side galleries, because now the deck suddenly gets very narrow which looks a bit weird. On a ship like yours, I would either go for a small window like this: Or no window at all. Good luck!

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26
Admiral Croissant replied to maydayartist's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Looks promising. The first pictures look very edgy so it's nice to see the contrast with the small part where you made more elevation. I can't wait to see the full layout with elevation and buildings and stuff -
Ahoy pirates and other scum! Last week Perfectionist paid a visit to Blackmoor and me, and ofcourse he took his frigate with him. It was a good opportunity to take some pictures of Achille and Vesta and to have some naval -and other- discussions. So, without further ado, here are a few of the pictures we took: And a shot of our sigfig's. Perfectionist forgot his so we had to make another one. That's also the reason of his title And another picture with a custom added background. There are some more shots in my brickshelf folder (when public). So that's it. It was nice to compare the two ships. They are almost of the same weight and length and it was great to see all the details IRL. One last shot: EDIT: And yet another picture with edited background: Thanks for watching!

I don't think so. If he'd made them taller they wouldn't fit in the bottle

Tips for recognizing contemporary pirates
Admiral Croissant replied to Cinco Llagas's topic in Pirate MOCs
Haha nice And useful too. Those pirates have been irritating me for a long time now so now I can finally solve that problem. My tip for future comics is to use a better font though. I can read it but that takes quite a lot of effort. Keep it up -
I agree with the others about the proportions. Prefab hulls just are too narrow to build a three decker on it, no matter what technique you use. Outside of that you did a great job on this ship. Within the smallest details the colourscheme is good. I like the tiled decks, the stairs to the poop deck, and the rigging. I see the HMS Victory was a source of inspiration too. Especially the blue-gold part at the bow turned out well. My only tip is for the rigging. The jibs are almost at the same place. So to take more advantage of the wind I would suggest to attach the inner jib to the rope just below it. Anyway, you did a good job and it's worth a blog for sure

Be patient It can take a few days. I think yours will be on the frontpage this saturday.
-
Most impressive! I'm looking forward to the finished product.
-
Good to see that you're starting on real ships again. I like the curve in the lines on the side and the colourscheme so far. The masts are also placed in the right position and of the right lenght. But there are three small things that can be improved IMO: The curve is a bit too edgy (I mean the curve in the widening of the deck). I think it will look better already if you make the widest part of the same widt as the part in fron and behind it. You could also make it smoother with widening it by 1/2 stud at the time, like CGH did. My other tip is to place the mast parts above the crow's nest a bit forward, instead of just above, the mast section below it. On the main mast you already did it, but you can also do it on the foremast and the bowsprit. And on most ships the stern is protruding a bit more (instead of less) than the rudder. I think it would look better like this: This may seem like a lot of criticism, but in fact there are only 3 small points. Outside of those I think your ship looks very good. So keep it up
-
Looking good. The part beneath the stern is indeed very difficult (one of the reasons I've only made waterline models so far ) But it's a fine challenge and you're doing very well so far. My only small tip is to make the rudder a bit smaller. I'd make it 4-5 studs long instead of six. Are you planning to build this in real when it's finished? Would be great
-
Indeed a very nice lighthouse. It seems a bit fragile yet that also makes it look elegant. The colours are realistic, I like how you did the stairs and the house is nice too. I do agree with Big Cam that you could have spent a little more time on the water, but that's the only nitpick I have. Well done!
-
With the more curved black line I meant that you could do it more like this before you add the black part. And what I meant with the curved side galleries is this: (bird's eye view) And about the question of the cannons: My tip is to first just try to take up room so you have playability. If it really looks bad then, you can always change it. But even on real ships there's a bit of space bewteeb the side gallery and the first gunport. Good luck!
