  1. What a fantastic MOC! Full of the most brilliant techniques and great architecture It may be better suited in the castle forum, but I don't mind if it stays here. I'm proud to have this in our forum Also great that AlterEvo joined Eurobricks. Welcome! [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  2. It's already an excellent and detailed tutorial I've put it in the index on the promise that you'll keep working on it (and perhaps make tutorials for other ships as well)
  3. It may not be very historically accurate, but it's a nice ship, full of great techniques and I can see you put a lot of work in it. The musketeers, the colourscheme and things like winches, modularity, the stairs and railings are nice as well. Good job. You'll get a well-deserved spot on the blog for this [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  4. Looks excellent, the modularity is also awesome There's still one thing that can be improved though. With respect, your sails are a bit too much clipper style right now. I think your top & royal sails/yards are too large compared to the other sails. This is mainly because the yards are too long IMO. Your royal yards seem to be almost as long as the main yards, whilst they should be about half the length of the main yards. You coul also perhaps attach the spanker sail closer to the mizzen mast. There's quite a lot of space between those two. Good luck! It's an epic ship already (As for DPW's comment, some ships, like Trincomalee, do have triangular sails there so I don't think that's a big problem.)
  5. Yeah the chaloupe looks a bit small for minifigs, but on the other hand this is probably the right size compared to the xebec. Still, it might also be too small for this technique as Capt. Becker said, although I think it looks quite good. It's a hard choice because the LEGO boats are so short and wide IMO..I leave it up to you
  6. Cheers iamded! Have a great day.
  7. I believe your idea of a Pirate ship is a bit too modern The galley is indeed the kitchen, but there's no bathroom on these ships. These ships also don't filter water as far as I know. There are only some holes in the sides of the top decks so the water can run away. And the stove (galley) didn't work on gas. They usually put coals in it. I've also seen they sometimes hanged a sail a bit in the water to make a kind of swimming pool for the sailors. And sometimes they put a large bucket on the deck for officers to wash themselves. I believe sailors (if they washed at all) just used some buckets and threw the water over their heads.
  8. Excellent looking classic pirate vessel This must also be a very good way too learn all the sail names. It's a great ship, very detailed and with a lovely colourscheme. I think every pirate would love to take command of such a ship. My only tiny suggestion for improvement is to make the red line curve upwards on the bow instead of downwards because the redline is curving upwards all the way towards the front. You really have an impressive fleet now Perhaps you can make a comic or something like that in the future. And it would also be awesome if you would display your fleet somewhere sometime. I'd love to take a look at it
  9. The hull and deck seem perfect to me. Great job there. On the sails, I think you should really take a closer look on real ships. For example the top sails are far too small compared to the royal sails. I've already commented on the spanker sail, and I believe the studding sail yards aren't normally placed on the royal yards. But great job on the rest. It's a beautiful ship for sure!
  10. Impressive fleet already HMS Athena looks almost just as perfect as Ares. Almost, because I agree with TazManiac about the spanker sail. Let's take our Trincomalee image as example again As you can see, the bottom beam of the spanker sail is almost half above the deck, and half sticking out. The top yard of the spanker sail is almost entirely above the deck. It could be quite difficult to change this on your ship but it helps that the sails aren't final. So good luck, and like I said Athena looks great already. I can't wait to see more/better pictures!
  11. Looks quite awesome already It seems very historically correct and detailed to me so far. I only hope the masts won't become too thin or breakable. Perhaps the figurehead part could be a bit higher but that could also be due to the camera angles. And the catheads could look better with a bit more blue or black, but I know it's still a WIP. Are you going to leave the cannons like that, or give them wheels? Good luck! EDIT: There was some empty space on the blog, and this is actually quite impressive, so: [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  12. I'm sorry but I'm not going to delete it. Other members have posted in that topic and it would be unjust to remove their comments as well. You can remove the pictures yourself and make a new topic. That sounds like enough fresh start to me. Also, please start every sentence you write with a capitalized character and finish it with a dot. Good luck on your new fort anyway
  13. Well bathrooms weren't present in these ships. Only a few toilets. We have an index with a lot of detailed pictures of historic/replica ships here. The kitchen would have looked a bit like this, and often with a brick(stone)built wall around it, and a chimney on the deck above it. And actually, pirates usually had very small boats, and I doubt if those had a kitchen at all. I dont understand your first question. Do you mean if we are also making the sails and rigging close to real ships? In that case the answer is some of us do, and some don't, but of course it will make a ship look more realistic. Good luck.
  14. Good first Pirate MOC. The tree and the water are especially nice. The flesh soldiers look good as well, but perhaps yellow epaulettes would have looked better (if you have them) to make them look less white. The grey "wall" all around the MOC looks very professional, but maybe it could be even lower so it doesn't look like a wall. Still, good job
  15. Err..why did you comment twice on the same post? I'll delete the last one for you.
  16. Welcome to Eurobricks. I can see your MOCs are a bit inspired by Derfel's, but they're still different, and awesome. Also great to see that you're making some Pirate MOCs
  17. I don't have any suggestions for improvement as I see you're working very close to the original ship. The shape seems perfect and it's indeed great that you're making on of these 'underrepresented' ships. On the other hand I believe that of the underrepresented ships, the Xebec is still the one we see the most here. Anyway, good luck! Are you also going to make the small sloop you can see on the instructions picture?
  18. The MOC itself isn't very interesting, but it's a great scene and you've recreated it very well. Good job
  19. Excellent MOC Taz. There are some great techniques in it. I like the trees and the "leg windows" a lot. The mix of stone and wood on the interior floor is great as well IMO. I'm not sure about the wooden tower..perhaps it would have looked better all in stone (but maybe you didn't have any bricks left). On the other hand this is quite original. You did a good job anyway.
  20. I would have liked another overall-view, but these pictures are okay as well. This ship may not be very historically accurate, but is sure is a very nice and playable one. I like things like lifeboat crane. The tiled decks and the custom cannons are nice as well, and the string on the stairs is a clever feature. Perhaps you could add some more lines between the masts (so securing the masts to each other). Well done though.
  21. Looks nice. I especially like how the small carronade turned out. Very realistic Your ship technique seems good too, but I'm not sure about the curve inwards. It curves more at the top than at the lower half, whilst on the picture of the wooden model you showed, it curves more inwards at the lower half. So perhaps you could make the lower half more curved, and the top half less. Good luck!
  22. Looks promising already, especially the crane. However, I must ask you to improve your grammar a little bit (always capitalize I when you're saying "ik" in English, and use ' when saying for example "I'll" and "It's". Thanks in forward and good luck on your MOC!
  23. Nice review. I put it in the index. It's a nice fig and I wonder in what kind of trouble Jack will get himself this time The figurehead idea is great as well. [bloggedcp][/bloggedcp]
  24. My 7 points go to: 18/ Treasure hunt on the river Nile by Nieks =3 points 10/ Ninjago Battle Chess Arena by Kris Kelvin =2 points 28/ The Excavation of the Fortress of Ra Ahmin Ka by Tervlon =1 point 24/ PQ Museum Raid by CorneliusMurdock =1 point Well done all of you!
  25. Aalak is right about the positioning of the yards, but a ship can also lower them. So with lowered yards, your ship is already quite accurate, compared to this picture for example. You could also change the colours like Aalak said, but if you don't have enough bricks or something I'd reccomend you to just remove the yellow bricks (make them entirely black). And finally, this could be a good inspiration for improving the headrails. Outside of these things your ship looks excellent so keep it up!
