Great to see you back! I love your tents. I have always thought brick made tents were missing something and now I realize your use of the string pieces finish them off nicely! cant wait to see the next chapter -

perhaps it will get a bit more active with the weekend coming up. Good job on the history time line. Now who wants to build an MOC of the Battle of Red Ford! or even a scene with the four druids in VolcanicPanik's post? For me, I finally started my embassy and seem to finally have a vision in place. I also am finishing up another free build. One of traveling performers "The Wonderous Antics of Barnum and his Convivial Troupe" -
The changes don't really effect what I made up for Circardia for the most part. I did edit my timeline and dropped the event where Orthus given the title of Lord and changed it to Captain. I also added Lord Arlindus led his Phoenix Guard to assist Atorious Rex and given title of Lord Arlindus of Circardia for his loyalty and bravery in the battle for Avalonia. good job Rougeang (and of Course DaMaximus for the original history guide lines)

Thanks everyone for comments. I struggle with incorporating interiors into my designs as well so this was a challenge to myself. I had seen the leg pieces used somewhere else before so I wish I could take credit for the idea. Sadly I can't find where or who I got the idea from. and the barrel on the bracket is taken from the Medieval Market Village Set IIRC. I wasn't totally convinced on the ridgeline either. I don't hate it but i thought it looked too plain without them. In the end I liked it better with them than without. I think using some tan headlight bricks might "flow" with the rest of the building but I was getting frustrated with the build even though it looks pretty strait forward. funnily I spent a lot of time and thought into creating the half wall paneling and then put some furniture in front of it and you cant really see it in the photos. again thanks for all the comments!

Very nice! I love everything about this build. Are the roofs 1x bricks? the roof on the center portion looks really good especially. I also really like the details worked into the top of the center portion as well. so many idea I may borrow....

looks like some one found some highlanders! Really like their shields I like the roof and the little mosaic of cheese slopes is something I need to try myself

Nicely done! It also is a good way for parent in Avalonia to make sure their kids are minding their manners! "If you don't go to bed Zakon will get you and drain your blood"

A Guide to building a Medieval Village
MikeyB replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
as soon as I started building up my supply of 1x1 round plates, now I realize I need to get hundreds more 1x1 bricks with studs on the side and a crap load more 1x2 tiles thanks for breaking my budget -
good tip and technique, I might have to try to design a "level" of 1x2 for my next trip and see how it stacks up against my traditional method of stacking them in a column thanks

Fabulous as usual DC! I havent played skrim but I love this scene! everything is great as usual.

Here is some of the history I have created for Circardia from the thread. Summary Key dates 42 years ago- Orthus flees his homeland with several companions and settles along the Isca River in the eastern part of the Enchanted Forrest. 41 years ago - Orthus become the leader of the group and they begin to protect and support adventures journeying into the Enchanted Forest. Hamlet of Circardia is founded. 40 years ago - Orthus marries Awhyn, a young adventuress that decides to settle in Circardia. Orthus meets with Dywinlyn, Elvish High Chieftain of Elvish Oak Heart Clan at Casglu Ardd 38 years ago - Circardia continues to grow. Fortifications, including the Citadel and Watchtower of Circardia are set up to protect inhabitant from roving band of outlaws. 36 years ago - Orthus creates the Phoenix Guard and defeats the outlaws. 35 years ago - joy and tragedy as Awhyn gives birth to a Arlindus but dies after childbirth. 30 years ago - Orthus settles into life as a widow and single father, teaching Arlindus the ways of the woods. Orthus becomes known as Captain of Circardia. 20 years ago - Orthus accepts invite from Dywinlyn to train Arlindus in their lands 18 years ago Arlindus returns to Circardia 15 years ago - Orthus passes his Captaincy, along with rule of Circardia and the Phoenix Guard to Arlindus. Captain Arlindus is known as fair and just leader, Orthus maintains role as ambassador with local Elvish Clans. 2 years ago - Captain Arlindus and the Phoenix Guard answers the call of Artorious Rex and fights to stabilize the region. Arlindus granted the title Lord Arlindus of Circardia by Artorious Rex for loyalty and bravery at the Battle of Red Ford. Present day - Lord Arlindus continues to rule Circardia peace and prosperity continue Geography of the lands of Circardia The Eastern border is the Isca River, a wide, fast moving river. Along the northern border is a river similar to Isca, the LLeyln River. Along the south is the high cliffs looking over Orthus Bay. Of course the Western border is very wild, heavily forested and largely unknown. More info at this link

well they are all inspired by you so that is a great compliment. Thanks!

thanks for the feed back. I was thinking arbor or pagoda when I built the wooden structure. I am pretty pleased with the way it turned out!

thanks for the feed back. @rougeang hyler is correct they are from Dastan torso. I was shopping on BL and found a source where they were only 15 cents each so I bought a 35. I hope to grow my army to at least that size in the near future. @Capt I debate the wall portion for a while. I think it needs to be longer to give the feel that I was going for (that the hall is tucked into the corner of a typical square castle layout. I wanted to create a tower and add a kitchen to the lower portion. You cant really tell from the photos but inside the Hall their is a door leading into the wall. Maybe Ill redo this at some point. @De Gothia the roof is a combination of the CMF bases, black tiles. they are all connected underneath with long 2x plates. they are connected to a couple long rigid hose pieces with a clip. And the window is the typical arch window stacked three high. i do have some more details shots I can post later of the roof and the window.

Each year Lord Arlindus of Circardia and his father, Orthus throw a Founder's Day feast annually. The Founder's Day is a combination of celebrating Orthus settling Circardia and a thanksgiving to their neighbors for their contributions to Circardia. The Feast is held in the Captain's Hall of the Citadel of Circardia. The citadel is a simple fortification that houses the Captains Hall, Lord Arlindus' dwelling and a few support buildings surrounded by a wall. Here you can see a sample of the wall and the Captain's Hall. The Phoenix Guard protects the Citadel and its honored guest; Varis, Lord of the Rustling Leaves Clan to the north east (rougeang's sigfig), Dywilyn, Chieftain of the Oak Heart Clan from deep in the Enchanted Forest to the West of Circardia , Mattheus the Druid (Matn's sigfig) from the lands to the east of Circardia and their host, Lord Arlindus and his father, Orthus. Inside, the guest indulge in the finest mead and desserts from Durham the Beekeeper, fine smoked fish from the streams that feed the Isca River, choice venison from Roltic the Hunter, and fresh breads from Felden and Lyndia bakery as well as many fine food and drinks brought by the guest. The Balcony of the Captain's Hall has a small Library and a desk where Lord Arlindus conducts his official business. Lord Arlindus raises his glass to toast his guests The merriment last deep in the the evening but more celebrations are planned for Circardia as part of Founder's Day This build was pretty challenging for me. I had in my mind what I wanted to do but was limited by what bricks I had. Overall, I would liked to have done more but feel pretty satisfied with it overall. The wood panel walls, the mosaic tile inlay and the furniture I thought came out well. I wanted to put a kitchen in the section of the curtain wall prehaps at a later day or build. I also had some issues with my lighting setup. Im not real happy with the photography but I hope you get the idea. On a final note to Rougeang, I know Varis is wearing a different torso but I ordered the the correct one from Bricklink but the buyer still hasn't sent it. And Matn, Mattheus had a similar problem. I thought I ordered the correct hair piece but when it arrived, I realized it was the wrong one. Sorry guys! As always please let me know what you think.

Casglu Ardd, my submition for the High King of the Elves build more images and backstory can be found here Also added Founder's Day feast in Circardia inside the Captain's Hall More images and backstory can be found here -
Here is a little MOC I did for Avalonia for the High King of the Elves mini build. Not far from the Hamlet of Circardia, Casglu Ardd was built many years ago by the elves of the Oak Heart Clan. It was build during a time when the elves were more weary of men and to help keep the location of their strongholds secret. Orthus, father of Lord Arlindus, was one of the first humans in recent times to set up regular trade and communications with the Elves in the eastern part of the Enchanted Forest. Whenever the Orthus wanted to communicate with the Elves, he would travel to Casglu Ardd and the Elves would show themselves within the hour. Many years have gone by and the men and elves have formed a strong alliance, often trading goods and sharing information with one another. Orthus has formed a strong bond with the High Chief of the Oak Heart Clan, Dywilyn and they have spent much time in each others company. But Orthus respects the tradition of old and still travels to Casglu Ardd before entering the elvish lands. Here Orthus and his son, Lord Arlindus have traveled to Casglu Ardd to deliver an invitation to Dywilyn. Lord Arlindus is holding a feast in the Captain's Hall in the Hamlet of Circardia and has invited his closest neighbors. Orthus greets the High chief of the Oak Heart Clan, Dywilyn Orthus, father of Lord Arlindus of Circardia thanks for taking the time to look. Comments and Critics always welcome!

I'll say it again. Great Build! I like how you intergrated the timber frame at the entrance of the mine with the rocks. Also love the feel of Woods.

whew! I have finished a build that has taken me the better part of a month. I hope I can get it photographed tomorrow. It is title "The Captain's Hall" in the Hamlet of Circardia and will feature a feast hosted by Lord Arlindus and cameos by Varis of the Rustling Leaves Clan (rougang sigfig) and Mattheus the Druid(Matn's sigfig), the two closet neighbors to Circardia as well as a couple other characters. More tomorrow! -

For a WIP your mine looks Great. I love the trees and the undergrowth. Is that one of the new "friends" butterflies I see? and those pesky tree-top dwelling rats. -
Great stuff rougeang! Varis is a busy elf! (I should finish the Lord Arlindus feast at the Captian's Hall today.) The canopy of the tree is great. The story line is great. I am envious of how you seem to incorporate interiors into your builds, even more so after the one I have been working on! I also haven't found any of the series 6 minifigs yet so I am envious of your minotaurs! Looking forward to your next build (Albion you say?)

Looks good CJ I think DC has some tips on a willow in his guide but I think you have the form right but it would benefit from some more foliage. And of course more photos would be great! mikey -

I must say I enjoy the smaller builds myself as well. I have always found the big MOC great to look at, but for me building the bigger builds, I find myself getting frustrated and then just wanting to hurry up and be finish with it. Maybe getting over that frustration and patience is something that comes with experience. I have a list of things I want to build (about 30 plus now, and yes, my lego geek transformation is near complete. I now have a Lego notebook I use to put down and sketch ideas) and I keep coming up with new ideas all the time. I kind of have been slowing down as I don't want to burn out or blitz my way through all the ideas too quickly either! of course with the new modular, CMF and the LotR sets...not too mention Bricklink, my Lego budget is going to take a hit this year and that has slowed me down some too!.
