  1. Quite the task! Here is a good list of Medieval jobs for some ideas http://www.svincent.com/MagicJar/Economics/MedievalOccupations.html I made a list of 30 some ideas for the hamlet of Circardia and only gotten through a couple before life started getting in the way! hopefully in a couple weeks ill get back to building like before
  2. don't be discouraged Rolli! teh last build I was the same way. seeing some really good embassies getting posted, none of my ideas was working out, and the deadline was quickly approaching. But in the end, I put together something I was pretty happy with and got quite a few positive comments on. Plus every build, even if it isn't a winner, will help our total Avalonian score.
  3. Hope to finish mine up this weekend with photos to follow shortly after that.
  4. Hey copy away! I think me and de Gothia have pretty much the same build list! my build is about 80% done and I might have time to do a couple lead in vingettes for my story mikey
  5. Great minds think alike they say! But with the druids having so much history in Avalonia there should be several storylines that feature them I think I am finally getting my guardian to the point where I am happy with it but now I have to raise the height of my cavern two or three bricks so the thing will fit into it! well I will have to take your word on it. I bought one of the new knight and a couple others as well. I opened the packaging in my car when i got outside the store to make sure I had picked the right one but didn't build it and left it in the bag. When I got home and built it, the shield was gone! it must have fallen out somehow and I made a couple stops before getting home so it could have fallen out of my car somewhere. bummed but at least they seem like they will be pretty plentiful to find. mikey
  6. Nothing earth shattering I am afraid. I didn't want to take on anything too big as I haven't had as much time to build lately. My back story involves a Druid that dabbled with the Dark arts and experimented with mutilation and hybridization of creatures. the Druid hid the earth crystal and used the grotesque creatures to guard it and other treasures in a hidden cavern. the druid died years ago but some of the creatures lived on, continuing their tasks.
  7. my Bricklink order should be in tomorrow and I can finish up my Challenge 3 build. I am about 50% finished and just need a bit more structure work and then some details. Still need to work out my guardian. Not happy with it the way it is currently but Ill keep working on it until I run out of time! I am concentrating on my final scene and if I have time I will build a vignette or two to add to the story telling. For Avalonia!
  8. thanks, that means a lot from someone of your caliber. I have been watching and learning for a few years on these forums. There are some great builders here! Sadly I haven't had time lately to build much. Hopefully in a month or two Ill be able to spend more time building but life has just been so hectic lately. I am determined to finish each challenge and I still have a long list of builds I want to do for Lord Arlindus lands' of Circardia
  9. Great looking dragon! (Avalonia) and the stone mountain top is excellent too (Avalonia) You will make a great addition (Avalonia) to which ever guild (Avalonia) you do decide join (Avalonia) Looking forward to seeing more dragons and other builds. Mikey
  10. Avalonian here I had a couple months were I was a prolific builder and contributer, but life has gotten in the way the last month or so and has seriously limited my building time and my time here online. I was a long time lurker but the GoH brought me out to begin building MOC. I enjoy the guild as I feel it has helped me with my building techniques. I often see techniques others have used and file them a way in my mental tool box for a future build. I enjoy getting feed back but it doesn't discourage me if I don't. I realize people are busy my main reason for joining was building I didn't realize that there was going to be prizes so that would be a bonus for me but not my main reason for building. that said I do enjoy the contest as I feel it pushes me to improve and gives me a deadline to finish a project. I like the big contest but think i would enjoy more smaller intra-guild contest with small prizes. I joined Avalonia due to the guild leader and my respect for his builds. plus I have been slowly collecting lots of plant parts over the last couple years so it made sense to join Avalonia. I likely will continue to build up my lands of Circardia regardless if the GOH project continues. I would eventually like to attend a convention with a modest display in the vain of DC or Maydayartist's medieval villages projects.
  11. I plan to. Challenge 2 came to me at the last minute and came together pretty quickly but I had issues with finalizing a plan. this time I have an idea and some of the details I want to include figured out already. I have a couple ideas for my guardian but depending on which one I choose, I don't think I will have to make a bricklink order for this one. Biggest issue right now is time.
  12. Looks great! cant wait to see more photos. the entry to the garden looks great and I like building as well. I too need to get my mojo back. I have three builds that are unfinished due life getting in the way. I might just build a small vignette to get back in the swing of things.
  13. very nice, looks like a lively little port. I particularly like the red star tavern lots of nice details there. Great job all around MikeyB
  14. /removes laptop from lap/ /stand up/ /applaud/ Truly great DC!
  15. I love the roof! Lots of great details throughout the whole thing. my only criticism is not enough photos or links to larer ones so I can look at things more closely! (age is finally catching up to me I think) great job Capt.!
  16. I would think that would be okay but I would post in that thread as well to make sure. Albion has been pretty dormant lately and any build to get it going would be welcomed in my opinion. Mikey
  17. yes the fit together fine. the sword is obviously longer and sticks out behind the minifigure a good ways but doesn't touch the ground while the figure is standing up.
  18. well done everyone on the free builds meph, i don't think the scoring criteria has been put out there yet. But don't let that stop you from building! Free Builds are just that Free builds you can build what ever you want. The good thing is that DC has given us motivation for seven builds with the builds on the front page of this thread. Personally, I have been trying to keep my builds centered around my land of Circardia or the capital city of Albion. I try to build in the style of Avalonia and to try new techniques with each build. I also try to present each one as best I can photographically and add a bit of a story. For the builds themselves I have gotten good feedback when I add a few details that add to the overall scene.
  19. Looking very good! combining interiors with a building is something I really want to work on so I can really appreciate how great this is. I really like your door and cant wait to see see the second floor! Mikey
  20. a sudden turn of event (standing in for a couple months as an emergency babysitter for a friend with a four month old) has left me little to no time to build :( well at least until I figure this whole baby thing out again (my youngest is ten now so its been a few years!)
  21. great build! even without the backstory you can tell it is a celebration! There are a lot of details that I like the ale cart is great, the well tucked under the apple tree and the dumped over water bucket, the frog in the pond (nice addition) the cobble stone wall. The fiends hair really works great. I just came back from Walmart and had three different friends polybags in my hand but put them back. I think I might pick them up for the hair pieces alone. I really like the window on the second floor of the building as well looks great! and who is going to be the first drunk to try and climb that ladder? the only thing I want is more photos of the details!
  22. if you want to learn check out Derfel Cadarn's guide to building a medieval village. He was the main inspiration for me to start building and as he was the guild leader for Avalonia, made my choice to join Avalonia an easy one.
  23. Great story and that horse is fabulous! The body language of the horse is spot on. Great job
  24. love the brown arches and they make such a statement when used in pairs! and the stone wall looks fabulous as well. But I agree, the floor just seems to the begging for a tile pattern of some sort. Great scene overall though!
  25. Great building and like other have said, some nice detail and use of parts. [quote name='Jason Cicchini' date='14 March 2012 - 06:07 AM' timestamp='1331716067' post='1230388' I've been teetering on the edge with my recent builds, trying not to break into my non-GoH builds or the Kingdom's Joust I bought myself as a X-Mas present...but every challenge it gets harder and harder not to. I think that is a dilemma we all face! Here is my opinion, if you have a decent storage and organization system, it isn't that hard to rebuild the original sets. That said, i still have all my modular buildings on display even though they are a great source for parts (all those lovely Dark grey tiles!) they just look so nice together! I created a list of parts I thought would be useful to have (tile pieces, jumper plates, arched windows, headlight brick, bricks with studs on the side, 1x1 round plates, etc) and have been buying a $20-$30 bricklink order every 2 to 3 weeks. It builds up your collection of free pieces fairly quickly. I still can't leave Most my MOC together yet but I do have enough for a couple small buildings now....
