  1. Great minds think alike right? I have a list of about 33 builds I want to do for the Hamlet of Circardia. Some have been done, like a gate house and some I haven't seen yet like a glassblower and a cooper (makes barrels) My idea of the potter was going to be more like a factory like the one in movie Les Miserables and I wanted to do a few other builds so I probably wasn't going to start it for a couple months. Look forward to what you come up with!
  2. I got a lot of trees from a seller on Craigslist. all told, 15 small pine trees 15 regular pine trees 12 fruit trees 30 bushes 7 cypress trees All for $25 I think I got a good deal considering the prices of the cypress trees are going bricklink.
  3. I know its going to sound like a broken record but I was thinking of a pottery shop for Circardia. As to what to use, how about the new leprechaun pot from the new CMF?
  4. I've posted else where but Ill bump this up as it is so nice. You have set the bar pretty high! If I ever built something like this, I would hard pressed to take ever take it apart and my building days would be over as it would use just about every brick I own. Again well done!
  5. So nice and truly amazing! cant stop looking! so many nice details and I recognize someone in those photos
  6. I knew you would do us proud when you unveiled it! Looks gorgeous! Can't wait to see the rest and good luck photographing it!
  7. I think you did very well with this one. Great poses on the minifigs and details throughout the scene. my only recommendation is the photography. Light is your friend: the more, the better. Not sure what type of camera you are using but I can tell you turned the flash off (good choice, direct flash doesn't work for lego IMO) My lighting set up is four clamp on lights I have been using Daylight-balanced, CFL lights (daylight balanced keeps from strange color shifts and the CFLs don't get hot.) I also use a white piece of fabric that I have rolled onto a PVC Pipe for my backdrop. I roll it up for storage and down for shoots. I was looking at using a roll of white craft paper from a teacher supply store (The learning Center is a chain in the US) or even a roll of parchement or wax paper from the grocery store. I also have some white foam core board that I use to bounce light to bring out some of the details in the shadow areas. If you shoot it right, you wont need a high end photo editing tool. Looking forward to your next build!
  8. I was wondering the same thing. Two of my local Walmarts have 16 boxes on the shelves, another two seem to have two out at all times. I keep hoping they will go on clearance or something as well to clear the inventory. I'm hoping Series 6 will be as widely available.
  9. looking forward to seeing your gate house as all your MOC have been great. I think I might be getting a little too ambitious and taking on too many projects myself. I am working on three builds right now (typically I start a new one while waiting on parts) but haven't even gotten past the brainstroming stage of my Embassy build. Not too mention a long list of other ideas I want to do...I was going to try another Albion build as well but I might hold off a bit on that one!
  10. nice little shop. I like the sliding doors and the overhang at the front of the shop has some nice details. I also like the window surrounds on the ground floor. You teased me with making it modular and then not really putting anything in it! any plans to but some details on the inside?
  11. Nice little shop. I was thinking the city build had gone a bit stagnate. I know most are probably concentrating on their Embassy builds and likely most don't have much free time (or the bricks to do multiple builds). Personally I get excited when I see a new MOC and check this thread and forum several times a day now!
  12. Nicely done! lots of great details here. thanks for sharing!
  13. Thanks! I haven't made any instruction for the stag but it is pretty simple. The body starts with a 1 x 4 plate, connect a 1x2 inverted slope under it, a 1x1 brick with two studs on the side (facing outward) and a 1x1 headlight brick facing toward the rear (I put a cheese wedge on the end for a tail but noticed de Gothia used a round plate). The sides are a 1x3 plate with a 1x2 tile and the rest should be pretty easy to figure out. the start of the legs are two 1x2 jumper plates and 1x1 round bricks. I can take a few shots of it and post them up here if you need them but it might be another day or two though.
  14. Not a bad start. You look like you have the idea down, just need to add the details. I know you said you used most your bricks But some plant pieces and more landscaping will help bring it to life as will some details. Prehaps a another barrel or two or wagon wheel leaning on one of the buildings. If you havent seen it yet, check out Defrel Cadarn guide in the pinned topics, he covers all types of things including landscaping and building techniques. Finally, try building a small scene, maybe just a farm or one of the towers. that way you could use all your bricks in a smaller setting and it will give you more options. here is a small one I came up with and it doesn't use many bricks at all. mostly just the foliage and a brick built stag. Overall good start! keep at it and look forward to seeing more builds!
  15. very nice! You can see DC's influences (as several of us have been emulating lately! I particularly like the use of the teliscope piece around the windows. Is the roof 1x2 dark brown slopes? Looks very nice.
  16. Love the look of the water. Looks like some rough seas and big swells! How did you make your sail? Did you weather it or is it a patterned material?
  17. Another great scene. Hope you got another MOC or two in you before you head back to work! thanks for the nod with the stag. I am working on a few other brick build animals (trying to work out a pheasant) but they aren't quite working out the way I imagined.
  18. Very nice! my wife has always loved butterflies and I made one for her birthday as a gift. No where near as large (it is about 30 studs wide) She loves it and has it displayed in a shadow box in our living room.
  19. thanks for the info. I know NCLUG is very active and would love to be able to get up that way for meetings and events. I was going to try and go to the Lego store in Charlotte sometime in Feb. It is about three hours away but will ask at the store if they know anything. next question I guess is, how do I start a SCLug? Searching other forums, I have found a couple others people in the state, but the post are a couple years old. I am more of a "build it and they will come" kind of guy and really haven't met any other adult fans in the area
  20. Yes, one of the first fan build sets Lego put out. I have one and love it and it is one of those sets I leave on display. It definitely is one of the milestones in the castle line.
  21. As the kids like to say here in America "Boom!" Nicely done!
  22. Well done de Gothia! the detail around the windows is great and I am a sucker for round towers. the details are nice and it looks like a busy place. I also really like the letter you wrote as a back story. Great idea! Guess I should start on my Embassy soon!
  23. thanks for the praise Ecclesiastes, your solution to the eaves definitely help finish the building. As to Gorlan's "Bald" head, Bald is beautiful! (or at least that is what I'm trying to convince myself as I seem to be loosing more hair on the back of my head each year, or so my wife keeps pointing out!) Ideally, I would have put the table inside the building but this build went pretty fast when you don't worry about the interior (its pretty ugly on the inside.) I don't know why I used the angle piece. I guess I just thought it would fit there, but in retrospect, I think a 2x4 table with a brown tile top would have looked better as well. thanks again for every ones comments. Off to build some more and look for my "Hamlet of Circardia" thread soon with a map and history of the village and surrounding areas.
  24. Nicely done. tons of great techniques and great use of parts. Im sure I will reference this for future builds and look forward to future builds! Mikey
  25. Not sure how updated it is but this is a good start A traveler's guide to Mitgardia
