  1. I imagine it might make a great figurehead. Those Ninjago pirates do have some useful pieces, I'm planning to grab one or two sets.
  2. While I'm still not a fan of PotC, I'd like to see some new sets when the movie comes out, even though I'm not planning on actually seeing the next movie. But more LEGO pirates is better than no pirates at all, and a new ship like the Flying Dutchman would be a welcome sight, at least I hope it would be better than the last ship (I mean the Brick Bounty).
  3. Not bad! Definitely better than what I used to build at the age of 11!
  4. And it looks good next to a Caribbean Clipper, after all, when you swap those few elements, the colours of both ships are very similar - brown, black, yellow and blue.
  5. You can take the Black Seas Barracuda and swap the sails for Caribbean Cliiper's (you will need an extra pair from another Caribbean Clipper), also give it blue gunports instead of red and change the figurehead's bandana to blue. Done! You have a perfect ship for the bluecoats. I did this a loooong time ago when converting my BSB to a ship for the Spaniards. Here's an old picture of what it looked like: Just put some bluecoat flags on the top instead of the yellow ones I used and man the vessel with some bluecoats. Now you're ready to fight the pirates!
  6. I agree. The redcoats had the Imperial Trading Post and pirates had the Rock Island Refuge - the ultimate pirate base as far as the official sets go. Absolutely amazing. Too bad I never got either of the two.
  7. That's a very impressive collection of some true classics. So you put it all together and then disassembled again? That indeed must have taken some time.
  8. That's an interesting article. Reminds you just how groundbreaking the classic Pirates were - the first to introduce firearms, different faces, a comic book... Now, that's an official image of the classic Pirates I've never seen! And I thought I'd seen them all.
  9. I've been thinking about getting this one, but it's way overpriced for what is basically a very small island, a pirate and a shark. Sure, the booklet is nice, very nostalgic, but at the end of the day it's always the bricks that matter to me the most. Also, it's funny that they showed the LEGO Movie ship in the booklet, which is not really a Pirate ship, but skipped the Brickbeard's Bounty, which is overall one of the better ships IMO. They could have easily put that instead of the image of the BSB re-release, which looks stupid because we have 2 BSBs on the same page. Then again, if you're showing an image of the Sea Cow, why not show the Viking ship too? Vikings were also pirates, just from a different era.
  10. Here in Poland, not so long ago I saw a few 2015 Pirate sets stll available in a supermarket, including several Brick Bounties. But that was just one shop among many, generally they are long gone from the shelves.
  11. Arr, I remember buying this set mainly because of that boat! It's always great to have more diversity to your boats. Plus you can use that statue for some Islanders stuff. It's a very useful set for Pirate fans, If you can get it I suggest you do!
  12. These Nexo Knights do remind me a bit of the old Phantasy Star video game series (the original series if you will, I know very little of the newer PS titles). It had spaceships and medieval-sortof themes mixed too. When I first saw the Nexo Knights pictures, Phantasy Star instantly came to mind.
  13. I decided to vote only for one entry in each category, so here it goes: Large Category: B: 3 Small Category: J: 3 Digital Category: D: 3
  14. To me, this is not part of the Castle theme. It's too deviated from what really defines Castle to me. As for the second question - I don't care about it. I don't hate it, it just doesn't feel like anything that could interest me. So no, I am not going to buy those sets (based on what we've seen so far), and as for the final question - it really makes no difference to me, although I suppose those media-driven themes add something more to the building experience. It looks like 2016 is going to be a year of strange hybrid themes - Ninjago flying pirates, futuristic space knights, what's next - Friends ghost hunters?
  15. Actually it's this one, you can find some interesting information about set names in different languages there.
  16. That's exactly what I had in mind making this review. If it's your first ship, you may enjoy it a great deal. And I'm absolutely glad you like it! The problem begins when it is not your first ship, and especially if you also have the Brickbeard's Bounty in your collection. It is then that the term deja vu comes to mind,
  17. Those Ninjago Pirates have sort of a steampunk feel to them, and actually look pretty neat, I'm very curious if there will be a ship for them too. If there is, it may look like something halfway between Metalbeard's Sea Cow and the classic pirate ships. I might actually be interested in this!
  18. So no new X-Men sets this year, huh? Well, this sucks. I was really hoping for a Psylocke minifig, as seen in the LEGO Marvel Super Heroes video game.
  19. Black Seas Barracuda. No contest. This set is just so fantastic it should be put in museums. I kid you not.
  20. Thanks! About the crew being too polished - I think scary-looking figureheads shouldn't be unique to Pirate ships. Some soldiers prefer their ships to look manacing as well.
  21. I took some time today to examine the gap issue more closely and take some photos. This is the hull of my Brick Bounty. Yes, the set is no longer assembled - I took it apart and stored the pieces for future projects. Sorry LEGO. Anyway, the gap can be seen clearly here. This is the white hull of the Friends ship. Virtually, there are no gaps, although if we want to split hairs (and that's what we are doing here anyway ), an almost microscopic gap does appear near the end of the side (bottom right quarter of the picture). All in all I'd say it looks fine. But what happens if we combine the two hulls? In this configuration, the situation is identical to the all-white hull. So virtually no gaps. But when you put together the white bottom part from the Friends ship and the brown top part from the Brick Bounty, the gap reappears. I also took a closer look at my Queen Anne's Revenge and 10210 Imperial Flagship hulls - the situation is identical to the Friends hull - basically no gaps. So the conclusions are: 1. The top part of Brick Bounty's hull is guilty! The bottom part is just like those of the previous ships. 2. The gap problem seems to be new and it looks like it wasn't present in any ships prior to the Brick Bounty (although for obvious reasons I can't be 100% certain of that - I haven't seen each and every copy of all the previous ships ).
  22. Glad to know... Maybe I'll do the same
  23. Thanks mateys! I must say, due to the colours, the ship is really hard to miss standing on a shelf just next to Black Seas Barracuda and Imperial Flagship (10210). Despite being smaller, it really stands out amid those brown/dark brown hulls.
  24. Or can it? I just received my replacement head from LEGO. Guess what? It was exactly the same wrong head. Now I officially give up. Guess the head error runs much deeper than I had assumed.
  25. Just got this set finally. My shark has printed eyes. Hard to say if it's better or worse than the head seen in the instructions. But it definitely fits better the other animals seen in new Pirate sets, like the sawfish and the crocodile.
