  1. Very nice, I agree with Admiral C, the stern could use some work, it doesn't follow the right shape well, I suppose you can't change much about the hull ( the old hull stern prefab would be much better for this ship) so never mind about that but maybe you could try some different techniques to make the deck narrow near the stern. the bow and mid deck looks great. I have tried making the interceptor but I couldn't figure out a way to do the stern windows unfortunatly, eventually I just gave up and made another ship (my first mechanic ship). The only picture I could find of it is this one (in the left) you can't see very much unfortunatly Anyway, I'm glad to finally see something from you, keep up the good work
  2. I would say Redbeard is the oldest, his many scars make it look like he's been around for a long time, I can't really call an age though.
  3. Using 2x2 round bricks makes the masts look to big on the top, the mast pieces have a much better shape, I did consider it though; But as I don't have enough round bricks in appropriate colors it's kind of difficult, I want something consistent Luckely the masts can easely be changed at this point so whatever I do, there's always a way back to try something else.
  4. I began building on the FD again, To get in the mood I watched Dead Man's Chest again, I've seen it over 20 times already, it really is sick... Oh well, as long as I don't feel ill Current condition: I made a bricklink order, I need extra parts to implement the new gunport design on the lower gun deck. I'm also short on inverted slope bricks and plates which are needed to construct the upper galleries and closing the cabin. as you could probably see I replaced most of the broadside reinforcements, the 8x1 light grey tiles, by dark grey plates, I don't have enough yet but more are coming with my order. The new gunports will not be easy to implement, I will have to take apart most of the ship to get there. In the meantime I though I should make the masts, I was thinking of just taking the masts of my Black Pearl but... As you can see it's pretty contrasting, the sharp black versus the general merging colorscheme of the FD. Black seems to be the only option if I want to work with the classic mast pieces so I can't change much about that. But I could use other colors on the booms and crow's nests (and eventually the sails ofcourse). There's another issue, I constructed the main mast under an angle like the original plan's suggested but when watching the movie again I noticed there's no angle at all. So I will reinstall the main mast, actually I'm glad there's no angle, the rigging will be much easier this way Yet, the rigging is bound to fail anyway, I'm not good at costum stuff like that, I wish someone would do it for me so I can fully concentrate on the lego aspect of the ship.
  5. Oh no, so terrible If this would ever happen to my Flying Dutchman, I don't know what I should do, I'll freak out, that's for sure, in the end I'll try to rebuild it I suppose. The choice of rebuilding your vessels is entirely up to you, In my opinion they were nice ships but what really matters is that you like them yourself, perhaps you can take advantage of this disatrous event by implementing some modifications/improvements when rebuilding the ships. I know how it must feel, my cat once pushed my frigate off the shelf
  6. [pid][/pid] 203D The final round of the Pirates Part Plunder is over, my last entry : Forbidden cove members can cast a vote. The seed part: The lantern looks nice but unfortunatly it cannot be used on a ship easely. The sail worked ou pretty well, originally I wanted it all white but I was short on just 1 white cone piece so I took traffic cones. A cone piece as a volcano Using a cone piece for a cannon was probably the most obvious thing to do, I'm happy with how the corners of the building turned out, I used inverted slopes over a 1/2 ofset cone piece, it's a pretty good fit. I'm not sure about my new boat, it reminds me of those paper boats which you can fold into a hat Anyway, I loved this contest and I advise everyone to join these kind of contests whenever you have the chance, it really improves your builds. And in the best case you even win a prize This particular contest consisted out of 4 rounds in 4 weeks, each round a different seed part. Here are my 4 entries; (Oh and don't forget to vote )
  7. ... Anyway, I can't find the thread, I tried the search bar, looked through my topics but that only shows my most recent topics, I can't even find my own thread I have a link to the mocpage. I know I posted it here but yeah, I'm not even sure if the old ship is indexed I don't have a name, I'm out of names It's a bigger challenge to find a good name than building a good ship
  8. [pid][/pid] 127C Basically this is the old technic ship with a new exterior, here's a picture of the old one: And a picture of the "inner workings" (click for a bigger view) The coolest thing about all technics in this ship is that you don't see them There are two buttons coming out of the stern holes and two pnuematic cilinders in the bow, everything in between them has been hidden under the deck. Because all features are pretty much the same I'll move on to the new exterior right away Side view, the masts are indeed to short Atleast one of these ships will have to be sacrificed for future mocs, at first there was no doubt, the spanish sloop would be demolished but since I started building my new frigate (which also has technic features) I might as well destroy this one Anyway, I have been experimenting with more technic systems to include in pirateships. but first I will have to work some more on my Flying Dutchman or some people might kill me if I don't
  9. A dilemma, I have this really bad ship I would post but I barely dare to post it because of its bad quality so I will add another ship to make the complete post look better The arch bricks on the prow, first time I did that was on my spanish sloop-of-war. The stern, it's a very old basic technique, but it can be very effective. Some nice details aren't they but ofcourse you probably want to see the whole ship... Well, I warned you. I can't figure it out, is it the disastrous color scheme that makes it look so bad or are there other aspects involved ? Anyway, time for some better stuff Surely this must compensate for the failure above My spanish sloop-of-war and new mechanic ship engaging in battle. I could ask which of these two ships you prefer but somehow I get this feeling that the spanish sloop would be the one so I'm just not gonna ask, you need to be able to touch and experience the Mechanic ship to fully appreciate it and you simply can't (unless you would go to Brickmania in Belgium, in April, if it hasn't been demolished yet). I'm building a lot of ships at the same time, at one point, a few months ago I was building 13 ships, only a few of them got finished and some of them are still being worked on. I'll post the mechanic ship later this week.
  10. I can tell you that I'm working on a 4th ship with a crazy feature, really crazy, I dare not say more for it is so crazy it might not even work It does involve RC
  11. Well, I got it from this set. here's a better pic; Btw, I forgot to add but my previous Frigate, Din's Fire was build relying on your great tutoral
  12. I'm working on two ships at the same time (three actually, including the Dutchman) A frigate and a brig-of-war, I'm transferring the upper sections of Din's Fire (my previous frigate) to a brown hull, that way the colors come out better (the previos one was build on the red-gray Red beard runners hulls). However the main reason to start this delicate hull-switch can be seen in following two pictures; Lower Balcony of the Flying Dutchman Upper bow section of Din's Fire As you may have already seen I use a hinge plate on the FD's Balcony, a black one two infact for the whole balcony, I want to replace them by light grey ones, the only ones I have are...on my frigate Furthermore there's also a lot of light gray on Din's Fire which would also be very useful on the Flying Dutchman. Anyway, Din's Fire's previous condition : Din's Fire today : And the new hull (BUT old hull type ! ) Besides hull swap I made more changes, there will be working lights in the cabin, a capstan that can be used to haul up both port and starboard anchors (using a switch to choose which one) and hopefully a working rudder. No pneumatic chaser cannons though That's for later (on a different ship, probably next month or so). This picture looks pretty chaotic I suppose so I will attempt to explain the workings (text under the pictures): This is the axle on which I will attach the capstan (maybe two even, on gun deck and upper deck). Using conical gears I get a horizontal driven axle. This axle passes through some technic bricks, goes all the way through the hold via a universal joint Now you might wonder why I use such joint when the axle doesn't change angle The answer is simple, While building big ships on prefab hulls I noticed that there appears to be a slight curve when the ship is finished, probably caused by the multiple use of plates and bricks which connect the hull pieces. The universal joint compensates for that. Coming up to the prow of the ship there are also universal joints which are here used to raise the axle, that way I can place the winches for the anchors even more to the front. (the black pannels which cover the joints are there as a support for the foremast.) This complex structure holds the switch that will allow you to choose which anchor to haul up, for now there's only one anchor attached though. here's a top view: I also made catheads for the anchors. Now onto the stern laddies I want a working rudder but I also want it to be historically accurate, this combination makes it pretty difficult. Rudder goes right into the cabin. The rudder chain does not have a function here, the steering will be realized by a tiller connected to a steering wheel. Now onto the coolest part; the table inside the cabin has two small lanterns on top of it When I remove the table... Light function ! The electric wire goes all the way to the hold where there's enough room to fit a 9V batterybox. Pretty cool huh ? Oh right, I would almost forget, while I was at it I made a Brig-of-war as well, I'm short on parts to finish it though. I was also planning a capstan in this ship but it might be too small Anyway, I'll be posting an update on the frigate somewhere next week. Btw, as for the PPP contest I'm in, the poll for week 3 has opened so if you're a member at forbidden cove you can cast a vote My last entry has been build as well, wish me luck
  13. Very nice, I like kahuka statue in the cliff, it might be better to use light blue or white instead of dark blue on the waterfall, I'm delaying my big kahuka moc once again, I need everything for my last PPP entry
  14. I like breastworks It is indeed very different from other pirate fortresses around, still, I prefer the more romantic idea of pirates
  15. It's not so easy to simplify such game either because there is so much variation in the ships, their different lenghts makes it difficult to such chess board like I said. Buf if we were to bestow each ship, no mater the size, with the same square surface it could work. Depending on the type of ship they have different movevents depending on the wind (which can take 4 different position (N,E,S and W) on top of that those movements are multiplied with a factor that takes the amount of sails in account. Maybe that sounds complicated already
  16. Using the horse hitching ? I don't think so, I'm getting back to my flexible tubes to make larger ships, not anything in the near future though, I got two warships, my Flying Dutchman and an Islanders diorama in the making, it is possible though I make a small pirate sloop to fit in the Islanders dio
  17. That looks good but I'm only really interested in that black seas barracuda so too bad, besides, where/what is AZ ?
  18. I did an attempt to fully understand that evil steve's game but I find it to complicated to actually play it, maybe it should be simplified to some kind of chess board (but a lot bigger, every type of ship with its own movements).
  19. Thanks, It seems it takes more time to load the pictures, I now realize how useful brickshelf was to me Hope it gets back soon.
  20. Is it really necessary to go all historical here ? For me pirates is about drunken scallywags capturing a ship and decide to go haul in some treasure or steal some from fancy folks at sea, Pirates don't care about things being historically correct, they want it to be shiny, tasty or busty, simple as that
  21. Very nice, I love how you made the impact of the cannonball on the aztec building , the burning tree is very nice as well
  22. [pid][/pid] 123B For my third week entry I went for Islanders (btw, the poll for this week is up, feel free to vote for me ) Anyway, the seed part was a horse hitching. More pictures at mocpages Let's see what week 4 will bring in this challenge, I really must join these contests more often, I build things I would not have build otherwise, used parts in a way I would maybe never tried using them Oh and don't forget (...)
  23. I noticed it too and it's very annoying especially now since I deeplinked pics for a contest I hope it gets fixed soon.
  24. Nice, I love the expression on the minifigures' faces, spot on Edit: btw, I see you also posted this at forbidden cove, It's a bit awkward to post a comment there too, considering I already said it here apologies
  25. I did try to make a shark-like creature using a black seed part but it didn't work out
