  1. Not yet but I'm working on it
  2. Very nice, I like that little tower coming out of the roof, it's a small detail, not of big importance considering the movie scene but it does add that little bit to make it perfect Btw, who's the disco stu guy in the boat ?
  3. ... I have one of these micro motors, It never crossed my mind to use it here, I must try it as soon as I can, it might not work though, it is a very weak motor. Thank you very much for this suggestion
  4. Yes it does, the only way to slow it down would be to add reduction gears but right now there's not enough room to add them. I'd need two motors for that, there's only room for one in the prefab hulls, unless I use the smaller M-motor but that one rotates a lot faster which is less interesting for this idea... I think I can make all the cannons fire when fully extended, they would all be firing at the same time though, making them fire at different times would require either very complicated mechanics or the use of multiple motors and perhaps a NEXT computer to automate the machine Sure, I could easely take out the motor and make it work manually, even seperate the two broadsides but using a remote controller is just so muc cooler I have a NEXT but I haven't been able to use it effectively so far, the NEXT motors have such inconvenient shape and in total it takes even more place, I would have to make a gigantic ship. Maybe one day I'll start making a fully programmed ship but it's definitely not for soon, in the mean time I'll work further on this experiment. next step: slowing down the proces if that works I'll take a look for a new hull, maybe I can use thisone:
  5. The newer one has the pins, like this picture (small pins near the bottom): I looked into the middle masts and I noticed I so have different middle masts, my newer ones have a Bottom Connector Prong I can't say for sure that this is the case for the re-release BSB though, it would make sense if it has the newer ones as well.
  6. [pid][/pid] Appearently I can't embed video's from Flickr in this forum so I'll have to ask you to check it out via this link video Cool huh, I can simply deploy my ships' cannons with a remote, I can't afford making a complete ship with this feature now though, I got too many other things going on at the moment. There's still one big problem: the battery box. It's so big there's hardly any room on a ship to hide it I could buy a new rechargeable batterybox (they are smaller and more System-adapted) but still it would be very difficult to find a good spot to place it. The mechanics are pretty simple here, I needed a simple construction because of the limited space in the prefab hulls. Right now the cannons are at the same height and offset but it is pretty possible to differ in height and offset, making this construction alos useful for more complicated shapes of ships. My first thought when testing this was to gear it down, thing is, there's not exactly a lot of space for reduction gears I could consider installing this feature on a costum hull but then again I'll have a hard time making the hull sturdy enough to hold it. Anyway, what do you think ? Edit: When I originally posted this I thought I had invented something unique for lego pirate ships. Recently however I came upon an old creation from EB-member SlyOwl that featured a similar mechanism, Check out his ship, the Maeve Aulsebrook for more.
  7. Considering the masts the only difference between the first and re-release I know of are the small pins on the top masts, I don't know anything about different middle masts (and I do have masts from different releases).
  8. So you're really looking for boxed sets, you mean like unopened sets ? those would be very expensive. Personally I even prefer unboxed sets, I even like it if they're not 100% complete or there are no building instructions included, that makes them much cheaper
  9. You can have moc ships on display as well, they are usually more impressive and whenever someone asks where you got it you can say "oh, I designed it myself " Not being a massive fan of Mocs ? but surely you must see there are pretty much inaccuracies and gaps in official sets? Anyway, back on topic, I'll make sure supporting this creation
  10. Bricklink is the place the "pro's " use I think, I'm not a pro but to get the parts I need for some of my mocs bricklink is the place. you can get almost any part there. Besides this online shop there are also real visitable shops in Germany, I've never been there but every year the lug I'm in (belug) organizes a trip to Cologne (Köln) to visit the store and buy parts at discounted prices.
  11. I define a waterline model as a model where only that part is build which is not submerged, Like this; This ship will be ideal for a pirate layout because it can be placed directly on the "water" (blue baseplates) IMO a prefab build ship can never become a waterline model because of the abrupt curvature. So what I really mean is what you're doing so far is great, making a waterline model of it would take away too many cool features of your ship. Overall I think your ship fits very well already.
  12. I use this simple rule to determine the waterline for tumblehome ships; The waterline is more or less at the widest point at a cross section in the middle of the ship. check out this Plan. Ok, I know this ship is fictive and not realistic at many points but you can see at the right on the picture where the waterline is located. Keep in mind though that the keel is not present on this ship, it's not a complete ship, still, the waterline is located where it should be located as if it was a complete ship. For your ship I'd say the waterline is around the tan line under the gunports (that's higher that "D" ), because the cabin is a bit low I'd lower the waterline a bit. IMO it would be a bad Idea to turn this nice ship into a waterline model, especially because there no curve in the ship.
  13. I got two SES so far, the first one was 100 Euro, box included but one minifigure was missing the second one was 75 Euro, building instructions included but anchor and one small mast were missing I consider both of them reasonable.
  14. Nice!, I how you made the fruit, I remember when I first saw this scene I said to myself, POTC became less serious but I didn't care, love it
  15. When I'm stuck on one ship I start another one until I'm stuck there as well, usually I found a sollution for the first one in the meantime, that's how I work Update on the Frigate: This capstan will be connected with another capstan on the main deck through a technic axle. Ah, just look at the reflection of those bricks Those dark and light blue bricks have never seen the bottom of a big curver box, where's the time, when all bricks went in the same box Comparison with my brig-of-war (which has masts now). And as a bonus a comparison with my WIP Flying Dutchman This isn't really a relevant comparison though, the Flying Dutchman is a waterline model while my Frigate is not. As a result the FD might not look so much bigger that the Frigate.
  16. Wow, it looks so much better in real than it looked in LDD, an incredible ship, that's for sure, the costum sails are great. Lol, that last pic, any Idea what price you would add to the boxart ?
  17. Nice !, I love blackbeard's cabin, particulary the table with the skulls. I must say the Black seas barracuda loks a lot sturdier compared to the QAR, maybe you should add a second deck ?
  18. Yes, the galleries, they should be long (actually they should even be 1 studs longer ) It's a characteristic of the Flying Dutchman. I'm looking for alternatives for the black masts, most logical would be to use round 2x2 bricks I suppose.
  19. Btw, since the poll is up; I prefer the old ones but it has nothing to do with nostalgia, it's simply a matter of good taste
  20. The old ones ofcourse, they are just perfectly shaped, the only possible disadvantage I can think would be the fact that you can only get them in black It would've been nice to have them in brown of tan as well, either way, eventhough the new mast pieces come in brown and tan, I'd still prefer the old masts even on a ship where brown/tan is better suited. btw, maybe it's a good idea to add a poll ?
  21. I just won this The first prize for the Pirates Part Plunder contest at Forbidden Cove, I actually won something by competing in a lego contest This prize includes: Captain's Cabin, Loot Island and Cannon Battle
  22. 1... 2... 3... New gunport design is incorporated into the Flying Dutchman ! Okay, it didn't go that fast Unfortunatly I'm short on 6 vine parts, leaving 3 gun ports unfinished I think it looks a lot better now, much more faithful to the movie I also started the upper gallery and it's quite the puzzle, not so easy to make it fit over the lower gallery, fortunatly I like puzzles like this As you can see it's nearly finished, it will probably take one more bricklink order though, considering the vines for the cannon ports and the masts. In total I spent almost 100 euro's on bricklink orders for this ship already
  23. Love this, that davy Jones must have been the stange kid at high school A jack sparrow in it would have been a great Idea indeed.
  24. Folder is not yet public, try deeplinking, use the "insert image" button, you must insert the url of the image when you clicked on it in brickshelf so you only see the image itself in the window.
  25. Very nice, I agree with Admiral C, the stern could use some work, it doesn't follow the right shape well, I suppose you can't change much about the hull ( the old hull stern prefab would be much better for this ship) so never mind about that but maybe you could try some different techniques to make the deck narrow near the stern. the bow and mid deck looks great. I have tried making the interceptor but I couldn't figure out a way to do the stern windows unfortunatly, eventually I just gave up and made another ship (my first mechanic ship). The only picture I could find of it is this one (in the left) you can't see very much unfortunatly Anyway, I'm glad to finally see something from you, keep up the good work
