  1. One day it just appeared :p

I think one of the admins added it to my avatar , pretty cool huh ?

It's not automatically generated if that's what you mean.

  2. Good point, I didn't take that into consideration but still, QAR beats the BB, the QAR has a smaller ppo deck but that's also more realistic for such a tall cabin. No clash at all Now, I could be wrong but perhaps you confuse the Black Seas Barracuda with the Brickbeard bounty (BSB - BB) both ships have the same colors of sails so it's very possible, Personally I would spot the difference instantly, the BSB is superior to the BB in every aspect (IMO). Anyway, I think a lot of members here prefer the black seas barracuda over most other ships.
  3. Nice fleet, the black seas barracuda is my favourite, I love the modifications you did to the red beard runner, the cabin looks great,
  4. There won't be much more ships I think, you can forget about the interceptor and dauntless, there's no way those could be official sets, who would want to buy these ships ? We ofcourse but other than our limited group I don't think so, it's mainly a commercial succes, everyone wants the black pearl, besides, there have never been very much ships available at a time, - black seas barracuda and caribbean clipper, 2 ships - Skull's Eye schooner, imperial flagship and renegade runner (1 big, 2small ships) - cross bone clipper, armada flagship and red beard runner (1 big, 2 small ships) - Brickbeard bounty and (new) imperial flagship (and we had to wait pretty long before the IFS came) as for POTC there already are the Black Pearl and the Queen Anne's Revenge, 2 big ships at best there will come one more ship and that should be the Flying Dutchman ofcourse
  5. It's some kind of wash table, just something to fill the empty spaces in the ship (there's a blue tile underneath the bars) (this is a picture from the prototype btw)
  6. Ofcourse a ship like this needs a crew so I assembled some minifigures, one better than another I sorted them this way so the ones I personally like most are on top. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/captain_davy_jones.jpg Davy Jones, the captain. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember1.jpg Octo dude. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember2.jpg Hammer guy (no wonder he's standing near the Kraken Hammer). http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember3.jpg Trollface, the terrible. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember4.jpg Lefthook, I want to give this one a dark green bandana (sorry for the bad quality here, I really wanted a shot from in the lower gun deck). http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember5.jpg Whip monster. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember6.jpg Drunky, this is a more recent member of the crew, as the Curse of the Flying Dutchman wants it the longer a crewmember is in service the more he becomes part of the ship, I try to express that by using the same color scheme of the ship on the minifigures. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember7.jpg Orc mouth http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember8.jpg Crabster http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/crewmember9.jpg Little Guy (every selfrespecting ship needs a tiny crewmember ). http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/wyvern.jpg Wyvern (he's not on the right place on the ship yet, he should be on the upper gun deck near the kraken hammer (below deck) http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/manta_warrior.jpg Now this one, Manta Warrior is simply too elegant to be crew member of the flying dutchman so I won't use him. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Sebeus/Dutchman/2011/WIP/Crew/squidface.jpg And this one, Squid face, is terrible, I simply cannot allow it to come on board because the lime green is a gigantic disaster when combined with the FD color scheme, furthermore you can't really take this guy serious right ? I did some search at bricklink for official minifigures, Davy Jones, Maccus, Hadras and Bootstrap... HOLY DUTCHMAN ! They are way too expensive, to get all 4 of them at the cheapest price it costs more than €40 ! So forgive me for not getting the official minifigures, I find my costum figures pretty decent, I gave them (temporarely) names so you can suggest which you absolutely don't like The last two (squid face and manta warrior) will not be used anyway.
  7. Nicely done, I'm also competing in the challenge but I didn't have an idea yet with the helmet using them the way you did never occured to me
  8. about 8% I based it on the number of pirate sets compared to all my sets this is not a perfect estimate as I don't know exactly how many sets I have, also because I have several incomplete sets (obtained second hands) and ofcourse there are big sets and small sets which is also a factor that is not easy to calculate in a general percentage. Anyway, I just made an estimate keeping all that in my head I have lots of different themes in my collection and pirate is only a small part of it, however, if Iook at my own creations I must say that at this point it's pretty much 62%
  9. It's beautiful, great furniture too
  10. Very intersting indeed. At times I'm asking myself if it's worth it, to build such a big ship and ignoring these nice little details to stay accurate to the real model which isn't so realistic I wouldn't mind some dark red and pearl gold colors either but no, the dutchman is weathered and infested by vile seacreatures And yet there's something royal about the ship.
  11. You will see that this community has very different opinions about it as well, I'll show you, I don't really like the new ships as their lack of realism puts me off, the black seas barracuda, that one looks like a real ship. So you see, my opinion is the complete opposite of Captain Blackbeard's and yet I call on the same argument that he calls on to justify his choice, the only sensible thing I can say about this is that there is no better ship, the ships are not so different, it are the people who make the difference. Now as for my presonal opinion about the QAR versus the BB, I prefer the QAR as well, the sail plan is superior to the one of the BB and the sails itself are a lot nicer as well (and on that point I'm on the same side as Captain Blackbeard )
  12. Aha, but the Flying Dutchman does not have ropes for the hatches, the hatches are incorporated in the hull and they slide down into the side of the ship. You can see it very will in Dead man's Chest when Jack Sparrow makes fun of Davy Jones ("I got a jar of dirt")and shortly after that the Dutchman opens fire at the Pearl on the upper gun deck there are no gun hatches at all, you can see that on the first appearance of teh Flying Dutchman when it rises from the sea (the water flowing out). I did consider making the lower hatches but it was complicated, at one point I managed to design a structure that worked but it took so much space on the inside of the ship that I wasn't able to get the cannons through the ports. However, since you brought that up and I already wanted to rework the gunports I might just look into it again
  13. I think it's a bit plain as it is now, when I aplly the new design I would ofcourse keep the random gray-dark tan mix, in the picture of the new gun port design the mix looks organized, that wasn't my intention You are right though that the plan parts will hide part of the ship but I think I can still create some variety by the color of the clips plates, gray and dark gray and maybe instead of the inverted slopes I can use a different piece here and there, a technic brick, on regular slope, a square hole. As far as I know the spyglass part only comes in dark brown, black and pearl gold, unfortunatly none of these colors are usefull here. I will probably stick to my original design.
  14. Hull looks great, very great, I suggest you eiter place the cannon ports lower of raise the deck, the way it is now the cannons can only fire 'up' Keep it up
  15. All right, I did some capstans Starting with Foremast Jack's design, I didn't have enough of the right parts to make a complete one though. (turned out that 2 technic link pieces is all I have) Unfortunatly it increased size does make life aboard a bit more complicated I tried fitting a capstan from another wip ship on the spot. It's a functional alternative but I don't like the color mash here, the dark brown reacts aggressively with the light grey so I might stick to my original for now. It was very interesting though. Foremast Jack, your design is still very nice but I guess it will be more practical on a larger ship, a ship-of-the-line perhaps, one day I'll build one Besides the kraken hammer I also tried some new things for the lower cannon ports, for now the best I could do was this: I'll have to get more parts to apply these to the ship, I'm out of inverted slopes and I'm short on seaweed pieces (need 13). But I feel good about this design, see how the seaweed nicely curves over the eyes. Much better than my previous Idea. Oh and I also intend to switch colors of the vertical tiles, I want them in dark grey but to do that I need atleast 10 of those and I only have 2
  16. I have seen it once but I can't find it right now. Either way, the builder simply used jumpers to place the 1 stud wide prow in the prefab bow piece. He did leave two gaps on the hull though, (on each side of the prow) So it wasn't so elegant. I'll try to find it so you can see for yourself.
  17. Awesome, this ship has much more realistic proportions than the POTC one, I love how you still kept some typical details such as the stern window, nice work
  18. I fear there will be a long dark age if the POTC line stops, new pirates ? I don't really see that happen. Oh well, I might just get some old pirate sets, I'm in the position to buy a skull's eye schooner at the moment, I haven't made a bid yet but I know it's complete and has instructions, however, the instructions are probably a bit used and the ship has suffered from intensive light (discolored bricks, gre, white and blue) So I don't know yet how much I should bid
  19. I'm considering it yes, I was thinking about adding two sea weed pieces to each gunport of the lower gun deck Suggestions are welcome, don't hold back to make any Your capstan is an improvement indeed, if it fits on the ship Best way to find out is to try it I don't have a lot of those technic link pieces but I do have atleast 2. If I'm not mistaken the bars of the capstan are taken out when not in use so I suppose it is allowed to take some space. I'll see if I can find the pieces and post a picture
  20. You managed to get all of that into this ship ? Sure it's big but I can hardly imagine there's a hold under the gun deck, I'm very curious to more pictures
  21. Your first version looks nice, only sausage characteristic I see would be the color, I like it when Line ships are colored. I think the real problem is that they are extremely wide
  22. Much better, it looks very good, maybe you can also replace the vertical boom of the jib sail by a rope to the first mast, that would be much more realistic, you can do that the same way as the QAR.
  23. Fantastic, the haipiece fits perfectly, I'm gonna get some of these 'friends' sets LEGO is trying to draw girls with these new theme but I can imagine how a grown up man walks into a store, get all the friend sets and when a shop assistent asks him about a possible niece he's buying all this girly lego for he simple answers; "not at all, these are for myself". And so leaving the assistent with the thoughts "what a strange man". I think I'm gonna ask my sister to buy them for me.
  24. That is an unfortunate rudder, I don't have the set but those building instructions say enough. Because fo the arched bricks there's not a lot of space to make big modifications, unless you redesign a big part of the stern like Foremast Jack said. The easies solution could be switching the flag by a brickbuild rudder, pretty much the same one of the old pirate ships. You won't be able to pose it at a great angle though. (just make a shorter one)
  25. Thanks Yes, the toa head, I need some kind of crest to decorate the top of the stern, the real FD has a "combo" of sea demons and people entangled in them but that's very difficult to realize in lego so I'm looking for alternatives, the toa head might just be temporarely. Or perhaps I'll stick the toa head full of sea weed and tentacles and see if that works
