  1. [pid][/pid] 127D My newest battle ship, a three-master with 16 cannons, crewed by bluecoats. Basically this is an improved version of my older frigate, Din's Fire, which was my first ship with an actual tumblehome. Relying on Captain Greenhair's Tutoral I used hinge plates to achieve the shape. Ofcourse there are some things of my own in it, particulary on stern and prow. I just couldn't go for costum rigging, it's the most frustrating activity in a ship building process, I rather take it easy and use the prefab rigging ladders (you can see al of my bluecoats in this picture). I particulary like how the catheads turned out, that arche piece is perfect. Ofcourse this ship wouldn't be worth its name without a proper Triforce Crest The quarter deck can be taken out to reveal the cabin's interior. There's a panel in the cabin that can be taken out as well, this takes us to the hold where the rudder chain is located. The rudder however is not connected to the steering wheel, the construction messed up the cabins' interior too much so I took it out. The electric wire goes from the main hold to the table in the cabin. (There's a light brick under the table). The two lanterns on the table actually cover the light brick, pretty sweet huh ? The double capstan; it can be used to haul up both port and starboard anchors (not at the same time though). There is a mechanic switch in the forecastle which allows you to set whatever anchor you'd like to haul up. The main hold can be accessed via the grates in the (more or less) center of the ship. It holds the batterybox for the cabin lights and in the middle runs a flexible axle, connecting the capstans with the anchors. (lights aren't connected yet because I couldn't find a 9V battery, I have one in my Techic Pirate Ship but that's not accessible, which is also the reason why I didn't fully integrate the batterybox this time, if I ever need to replace the battery I don't want to demolish half of the ship ). I thought about using more than 4 midsections but I figured that wouldn't do any good considering the proportions, It's already quite the narrow ship. More ships are coming, my Flying Dutchman (probably without sails) and my new redcoat brig For more pictures see my Brickshelf folder
  2. You don't have to use the exact same hinge plates as in Captain Greenhair's tutoral, there are many alternatives. Car roof plates for example or clip plates or hinge bricks, anything you can use as a hinge
  3. Nice, that stern is great, along with that nice hull this will become a fantastic ship, can't wait to see more. I just got out of a contest so I can focus on my ships again.
  4. Very nice, I like that lantern design, I might actually use that for my ship
  5. My current fleet: a pirate top-sail schooner, a spanish square rigged sloop, a redcoat brig and a bluecoat frigate. Next to those I also have a Skull's Eye Schooner and my Flying Dutchman. More are coming
  6. Technic pirate ship II http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=65942&st=0&p=1196928entry1196928 designed as a top-sail schooner but proportions are not so great, still, I wouldn't know what other type of ship it could be
  7. What a coincidence, I rebuilt my Legoredo (the original one) a few days ago I don't know anything about the re-release (I guess that didn't happen in Belgium) but if you do have questions about the original one I can certainly help you (but better not do that in the pirateforum as it's not a pirate set, send me a message)
  8. A question I want answered as well, I was born just a few years to late I had to get most of my piratesets via secondhands sellers. I can't think of a decent reason why it was stopped. Maybe it was an economic thing (lots of new, special parts were included which implies new expensive molds, serious investments) but as it was a super pupular theme I doubt this was the case.
  9. Very nice, so you're around here too At mocpages I forgot to mention that the rock cave is very nice as well.
  10. I like that small ship, made of spongebob flying dutchman parts ? That is very nice, I've seen barrel made trees but they were always straight trees, this is much better
  11. Very nice, you've captured a great atmosphere here
  12. That Frisian is hard to understand The publicity is nice and all but still, I rather keep my Flying Dutchman intact Good luck rebuilding the Vesta.
  13. Very nice, for sails you could just use paper and paint it black, that cut out the wanted shape, and maybe make some holes in them if you liek the sppoky version more it works pretty well (atleast it did in my black pearl. Btw, are there cannons missing ? 18 on the gun deck and there should be 14 on the main deck... but that's just a detail anyway, the cabin's interior looks like there are lots of possibilities
  14. An unopened box ? that's worth a lot Ofcourse there's a specific audience for that kind of stuff, personally I wouldn't pay such high price because of the sealed box, I would eventually open it anyway. I would certainly pay less than $100 but I'm confident that there are people willing to pay much more, $200 seems a realistic price, considering its condition.
  15. The interior can be accessed via the port side of the ship, which is open, there are no removeable decks though (except for the poop deck and the grates on the forecastle), I had to fix the decks to make it sturdier. It's sturdy enough to carry it around but because it's so big and heavy I wouldn't exactly call it swooshable
  16. Nice use of the alien legs, I have a few of those, might just use them on a ship as well. This is a pretty nice ship but can you please remove the awful pole on the bowsprit ? I see you copied that from the imperial flagship but it is very inaccurate in regard to historical ships. Other than that it looks great
  17. So I did some costum rigging and I must admit, it looks a lot better than those prefab brown ladders I used earlier All right, I'm not the most handy guy, ofcourse this is the flying dutchman, there's room for irregularities I made this picture to give you a better reference for the size of the ship, in my living room The only things that remain are the sails, the cannons on the upper deck and the anchors. This is the cannon design I'll use on the upper cannon deck, it would be ideal if I could make this in dark gray but unfortunatly I don't have the parts to accomplish that. My first anchors were black but I might make them blend in more with the ship by using grey and tan. Anyway, I don't think there will be more updates in this tread (9 pages ) I'll be missing it though, when there are no more bricks to add, what should I do next ? this is my first big project in the sense that I updated a WIP tread, I spent many months on it and it's my biggest in-one-piece creation. Posting the progress of my ship here was a good Idea, I've got a lot of good suggestions and altered my design in the proces. My dad asked me if this was the biggest lego ship ever build, I wish it was, ever since I joined classic-pirates I learned that there are some real leviathans around. I'm happy with the size of my ship though, a total lenght of 129 studs, that's not so bad. I will post the completed ship somewhere next month, maybe I'll wait till after the Lego event I'm attending the 21st of March (Brickmania) so if anyone lives in the neighborhood, that's your chance to see it for real
  18. I'll give that costum rigging a try but don't expect much Fortunatly there's a great tutoral in the index For the longboats I intentionally kept them this small so they wouldn't take too much space on the ship. I think 5 bricks wide would be Ideal...but not so easy to acclompish either. Unless I use brick-built boats like those of you, Bart but for smaller boats it will probably look too chunky. I'll give it another try after I tried some rigging Thanks, the mizzen mast should have a smaller diameter, 2x2 is too big but 1x1 is too small so that mast piece was ideal. Maybe I can add some grey tiles via the technic holes to ressemble the color patern of the big mast more. I could easely make it a bit higher by adding some round bricks under the mast piece, I'll try that first.
  19. I haven't found the CMS 6 yet but it's very interesting indeed, the perfect sollution to use my design in the right color, must get six of them The facial expression reminds me of the Black Pearl's idol and the crown could indeed be useful. Update time: As you can see I used the classic rigging pieces on the Dutchman, they aren't fully attached yet and I doubt I get a clean connection, Most important reason I chose for these prefab parts is that I'm a noob with costum stuff but evetually it would be kind of nice if I could make this ship 100% official LEGO. I might try costum rigging after all, it would look better...or not. Another dilemma, what's more important, 100% lego or more accurate to the real thing ? I also made two longboats, in the movies one is only used by Will turner to escape the Dutchman but that's it, even the crew of the FD doesn't use them to go from ship to land, appearently they rather swim I don't know where exactly I should put them on the ship either Anyway, next time I will have complete masts and finished stern. btw, I have placed my old version of the FD on Cuusoo
  20. I have something similar but practically it gives a lot of problems, you need more power to slide out the cannon if you want to arm it at the same time, In my design the firing mechanism is mounted onto the sliding part and will be controlled by a secondary motor. That way I devide the big problem into two smaller problems, it will take more place but it will work easier. So far this is the Idea, there are two buttons on the remote, one to slide out/in the cannons and one to fire them, no cannan ports yet.
  21. I'm thinking about reducing the system to only one side, like Admiral Croissant suggested, it would allow me to place my motors asymmetrically (like placing them on the other side of the ship). It's still complex but I can see it happening, I designed a structure that can pull back and let go the firing mechanism of the cannon, it's a bit inaccurate, the cannon aims down when fired (because of the loose hinge point on the carriage). I'll try posting some pictures when I can but for the moment it doesn't look like much
  22. I loved the Red Beard Runner, I must say, the deck is a bit empty and there's the weap point under the white slopes at the stern. However, looking at the whole ship it has a good feel about it
  23. That last picture is beatiful, I bet you wouldn't be able to make that picture again once teh ship is complete The forecastle section doesn't look very natural I think, as you can see on the picture in Frank Brick Wright's reply there is a somewhat flat part on the bow. In your ship it's triangular... But considering the gunports I don't see an elegant sollution either
  24. For the Castaway category in the 2012 Mocathalon I've made this new ship, again it is still a wreckage but it's coming Worked out pretty well, eventhough I say so myself I also made a video to demonstrate how light and swooshable it is. It's a bit dark though, I don't get it, my pictures are bright but I I can't make a birght movie under the same conditions I hope this video prooves that while the construction looks very fragile it is actually pretty sturdy I'll use this tread to post any other progress I make on this technique. I don't know if I should make a seperate tread for this castaway
  25. [pid][/pid] 125C New News scout reporting for duty I will look out for creations on mocpages in particular (which I was doing for a long time already actually) As my first find, definitely not the least, I present to you one of the best in its genre. Benjamin Kobold has surprised me with this amazing accurate replica of the famous Black Pearl. This is the best lego Black Pearl I've seen so far and I've seen a lot, Benjamin has taken the right approach for this creation, there are almost no straight lines to start designing around. The shape of the hull is very accurate to the real thing, though there might be some rough edges. I particulary like the windows, most people use the simple arched windows (like the official set) when designing the cabin. Personally I find those completely out of place, the Black Pearl has these very elegant shaped windows and Benjamin respects that. It might be bold to say this but this version actually reminds me a lot of my own version with the big difference that this one is much better. Be sure to check out this fantastic ship at mocpages and leave a comment when you can. This creations certainly deserves more attention
