Brickmania ? you're coming to brickmania Awesome, really awesome, I'll be there too with my ships oh and did I just read sailing ship battle diorama I want to join battle!
-
So, how long (studs) do you estimate it will be when finished ? With a max width of 24 studs it's more narrow than my Flying Dutchman (26 studs) but I'm guessing it will probably be longer. (my ship has a total lenght, tip of the prow to stern lanterns, of 129 studs). Man I'd love to compare your ship with mine, as they are both waterline models they most looks great engaging in battle

...we could all support this Flying Dutchman MOC at LEGO Cuusoo, maybe they'll reconsider bringing one (a mere detail: it's my moc :P ) -
She's beatiful, I'm not too fond of the gold coins glued (?) to the sides but that's just a detail and the painted hull...well it looks very nice. Are you going to add minifigures ?
-
BSB is the most polyvalent ship, you can easely turn it into an imperial ship, increasing it's broadside shouldn't be much of a problem, on that hull you can easely add another cannon port on both sides. Infact, you could even add two on both sides, making a total of 8 cannons. That would make 4 studs between the cannonports, very reasonable.
-
Yes, I can't justify another bricklink order at the moment but I intend to complete the ship sometime.
-
At this point I only have this picture... but it's too dark to see any interior so I'll make a new pic soon
-
Nice ship, the dark brown looks great but the a great disadvantage of the QAR hull is that the stern looks terrible. The upper part of the cabin looks a bit odd I think.
-
First moc, a two (gun) deck ship ? That's brave My experience with such ships (built on prefab hulls) is that you easely end up making a way too tall and narrow ship. I can only suggest you limit the height of the decks to 4 bricks, that makes it difficult to use the standard door pieces though.

There are a few flying dutchman projects on Cuusoo (yes, two of them are mine) Maybe if they get enough supporters LEGO will realize there IS a market for the Flying Dutchman -
I like them both for different reasons, classic pirates for the great play-able sets and POTC for the nice details (buckets, windows, compass, globe,...) Together they make the ultimate pirate mocs, too bad minifigures don't combine well

[Tutorial] Sailing ships - tech specs and workings

This is very very interesting Some questions though; That Lenght over all, I see it is measured from the most extended point of the bow to the stern, but not the furthest point on the stern, is that where the galleries have a little bit overhang or am I wrong on that ? In the formula for minimum beam, I assume it's correct to replace that +1 by +0.3048 to use it in SI units (meter) ? This way one can easely make a stud equivalent as well -
Nah, I think it's time to return to the main land, I've been at sea for too long now (I have made practically only ships the last months (year)). I want to make cars and stuff, I'll throw in a boat here and there but nothing as big as the Titanic
-
Very nice, the temple looks great, I like those faces in it
-
Someday I'll finish the other side, when I gathered enough parts. At this moment I can't even start building the other side, my old grey collection is exhausted, I have like only three 1x2 grey bricks left I'll need quite some minifigure legs as well and I'm also out of dark tan... Overall, it would take another big investment
-
Nicely done, I like the flag, the windows in the stern look good too, skeleton legs, pretty cool
-
Ooooh a moc expert oh and I also became...a knight! I thought about making a new siggy for this occasion but I like my old one too much. Btw, I updated my post with a new video, I had to make the soundtrack myself (because of youtube license problems) Because of that it's not as good as the original music :S but atleast there is an continue track.
-
I don't have the slightest clue, I weighted the ship (4,2 kg) and based on that (I know it's silly) I estimated...6000 pieces... but that could be wrong for more than 2000
-
I tried using original rigging pieces (link) but that just wasn't what I want it to be. And because lego strings practically only come in black (which is a color I tried to avoid as much as possible) I decided the costum rigging was the best alternative. Still, it makes me a bit sad that my ship is not 100% LEGO.

[pid][/pid] 130D Flying Dutchman / Hollandais Volant / Vliegende Hollander She's finally finished, with a total length of 129 studs (about 1 meter) and a max. width of about 26 studs she's my largest MOC ship so far. A special thanks for you guys, for supporting , suggesting , correcting and everything else you did in the WIP tread :shark:This ship would not have been what it is now. This was also the first time I shared my progress in a WIP tread, I'm happy I did. The Flying Dutchman engaging into battle with the Spanish Galleon - Brickmania Wetteren 2012 Terrorizing the great sea - Brickmania Wetteren 2013 The port side: The ship has a total lenght (stern lanterns to tip of prow) equally to 10 cars lined up. Well, more pictures can be found in my Brickshelf Gallery.I'm going to make a mocpage as well and probably post a picture at Flickr.I don't have anything big planned for now, I might do some more experimenting with IR broadside cannons but I also want to build some more in other themes besides Pirate (but don't worry, I still have plenty of pirate ships in stock).Either way, I don't think I'll demolish this ship anywhere soon, I'm going to keep it forever (atleast some years). I hope you liked it. I also added it to Cuusoo, a ship the way I made it might not make a realistic set but it could increase chances of an official Flying Dutchman set eventually. - - - - - UPDATE (18/07/2012) - - - - - My Cuusoo project drew attention of a rather influent youtube lego reviewer (has over 12000 subscribers) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Looks good so far, I'm not the expert on such ships but judging from those two pictures I'd say she has has a fine curve. Maybe a side view would be useful
-
A picture in complete darkness: A picture from inside the ship: and one with the lights on, looks like there's a fire in the cabin

Just an idea to make things kind of more interesting...
Sebeus I replied to Yawgmoth's topic in LEGO Pirates
A while ago I had this pirate faction I named the Saphran Dragon, so far no more than two ships though. This seems interesting. -
Hmmm, that's what you get when building a ship not based on any really model I could place the mizzen mast a bit more forward with 6 studs max but then again, because the sail is rather small it might not really look better. Yep I'll make a picture tomorrow, the cool thing about this light brick is that it also has a flicker option = disco cabin

Just a personal touch, to add that little bit fantasy to the ship
