@Hammer welcome to the guilds. I'm sorry to hear about your incident with the pie. Since the Black Spire got involved, quality control isn't what it used to be- the pie should have literally bitten your head off, not left you alive. My sincerest apologies. Looking forward to seeing Ferinwald! -
Pretty sure the Mitgardian ladies don't need the oil- they use their fine beards as scarves.
-
To clarify, I simply meant the pumpkins will probably eat your head. Rendering you speechless (as you'll be lacking the some of the vitally necessary organs) but technically headless.
-
Love the Nocturnians, and that's a cool brick built boarding on the horse!
-
"Enchanted pumpkins. 20 drakes a bushel. They're so good, they'll leave you speechless.* *technically headless." Great build. I love all the details, and the story is brilliant.

Hunting Murderers: Visit to Stoneroda

Thanks guys. And yes, that is intended to be a lady with a beard. Mitgardia is famous for them. @Kai, yup, poking fun, as obviously Nocturnus is the best guild. ;)- 21 replies

Hunting Murderers: Visit to Stoneroda

Thanks DrC! With regard to the side stories, the builds have to be big enough to accommodate it otherwise it's too crowded. Plus they work well for towns/cities.- 21 replies

Hunting Murderers: Visit to Stoneroda
Lord Vladivus replied to Lord Vladivus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks kabel, I'm pleased you like it! I got a bit carried away, and reasoned that I could add a few side plots- makes it feel more like a town, rather than something that just exists to facilitate my character. I also managed to make a complete, rather than ruined house, I remembered I had a bag of old red bricks in the loft. I hope you noticed the name of the hunter- I couldn't resist paying homage to you specifically!- 21 replies

Hunting Murderers: Visit to Stoneroda
Lord Vladivus replied to Lord Vladivus's topic in Guilds of Historica
Cheers! When I make smaller MOCs, it's easier to "finish" them, as there's less of them. Even now, this one is sitting there and I'm thinking, if I just change that, move that fig slightly. I dread to think what would happen if I made a giant one... This will probably be my biggest one for a while, I'll likely only manage the smaller category in the Avalonia challenge as I'm moving! As a side note, I forgot in my original post, but I've tried to include things like the Avalonian flower love, Mitgardian bearded ladies and the Kali-Mitgardia trash talking, to inject a little humour.- 21 replies

Lego Hobbit Video Game Exclusive Minifigure Announced
Lord Vladivus replied to mrfootball's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
If he's got arm printing, that's going to mean Chinese plastic right? I quite like the fig, but I doubt I'll fork out for a game I'll never use just to have him. -
The walls of Stoneroda. The town had seen better days. It's destruction hadn't dimmed the indomitable Mitgardian spirit though, and the town was being rebuilt as a garrison for Mitgardia's soldiers. The current political unrest between Mitgardia and Kaliphlin reared it's ugly head, with a mounted Mitgardian soldier dragging a chained privateer in the colours of Kaliphlin behind him. Mitgardian soldiers up here have grim countenaces. Further along the walls a famous bearded lady of Mitgardia observes the work of stonemasons as they build the wall that will surround Stoneroda. Inside the town's walls, the atmosphere is cheerier, with the bustle of life in Mitgardia watched over by guards on the walls. A suave Avalonian woos a delighted Mitgardian woman with flowers in his favourite colour: pink! A dwarven weaponsmith works hard to supply Stoneroda's garrison with high quality weapons. In the midst of all of this, Lord Vladivus arrives accompanied by Necromancer Krell. His scouts have recently discovered the demise of Corocus, and has tracked the murderers to Stoneroda, where Vladivus is meeting a famed Mitgardian hunter- Sigvald Kabelsson. Lord Vladivus: "Greetings Sigvald, I trust you have the information I seek?" Sigvald: "I do indeed. It is a sad time, it would appear the Black Spire's reach extends far. I tracked a party of soldiers fleeing Nocturnus through Mitgardia. They passed along the road towards Avalonia. One of them carried a mighty sword that seemed to glow of it's own accord- such witchcraft does not sit well with me. I fear you may find the answers you seek in Avalonia my friend." Vladivus: "You're help has been invaluable." He turns to Krell. "Well, it seems it is to Avalonia that I must travel. Prepare the troops, and have them meet me at my ancestral home. This heresy must end." .................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. So, a freebuild to explain my characters presence in Avalonia when the challenge starts. I went to Mitgardia, as 1) I wanted to build there, and 2) Some of the characters will probably crop up in the Mitgradia challenges, so I wanted to introduce them now. Obviously Stoneroda is kabel's town, so credit goes to him, I hope I've done it justice. I tried to channel some of his building style, without compromising on mine. Tricky. C+C very welcome, this is the biggest MOC I've attempted to date, and whilst I'm pleased with it, I keep coming back to it and fiddling. I'm more used to smaller MOCs! As ever, more pictures on my Flickr. Cheers.

Book II - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Lord Vladivus replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Damn Janatale, that's looking amazing! Can't wait to see it finished. Two small questions: are those Nocturnian flags I spy? And the portcullis- if it's up, and I'm assuming it reaches into the water when down, where's the rest of it? -
That's some clever parts usage for the stag! Nice!

This is amazing! Excellent build! Love the stairs down to the cellar, and the red roof provides a cunning focal point for the build! Looking forward to seeing all four together!

Nice little tower- the top seems a little flat and bland though.

Awesome! I love those guards expressions!

Lord Vladivus replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
Good to hear Gunman! That would've sucked! -
I reckon a couple of dark tan profile bricks and non-round plates would do the trick- just to break up the lines. It looks great though. And again, I love your figs- I think it's the difference from the typical Mitgardian figs!
-
Your sig-fig looks angry! Great build, live that you've made a corner, and put the little house in. Nice and realistic with the wall fillings too- perhaps a little uniform in texture, but great variation in colour! Looking forward to phase 3!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Lord Vladivus replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
The spiked barricades are reminiscent of caltrops. Possibly used as early as ~330 BC. The design varies greatly, and are mainly intended to hinder the movement of mounted, and chariot borne troops. Edit: also, punji sticks perform a similar role.
