  1. Okay, after a lot of trial and error learning in a few graphics program I have finally finished designing my first decal! But now I find that I can't print it where I thought I could. Does anyone know of a place to go to have these printed with white base coats and metallics? It seems MCN used to offer a service like this but it doesn't look like it's still active. I've been working on this for nearly a month and now I'm stuck at the end. Please help.
  2. So. Many. Elves. Your Helmsdeep is great but... I want them. ALL of them. You must have a huge horde of blonde elf hairpieces somewhere.
  3. God I hope this means another summer LOTR wave... I checked all my instructions and right you are. I never noticed.
  4. There was also a bit that was in the book but not in the movie. I'm excited for it but I may get this one rather than wait until November/December even though the figure isn't a must have for me. Thanks for the answer TheLegoDr.
  5. When should I expect the extended edition to be released? I may be able to convince a friend to split it with me since I don't have a blu-ray player... But if the extended edition will be coming out shortly after, I'll probably pass.
  6. There has not been an official statement from LEGO but user GRogall, whom I understand to be consistently reliable, has confirmed it. I'm thinking someone else confirmed it again a week or two ago in here. I don't know if either of them said it was 'UCS' but it's a reasonable conclusion based on its reported size.
  7. I think he could be a promo figure except I don't know if they make exclusive molds for promos. I would scream bloody murder if he were a ComicCon figure. As mentioned above the release of 2nd Age Elrond makes a set seem less likely but I suppose there are still enough characters that they might do it even without him if the line lasts longer than I expect. If it had last alliance elven soldiers I would drive myself into debt...
  8. I highly doubt it. I don't expect there to be more than a third wave of LOTR but I hope I'm wrong. If they were to give us another UCS set I imagine it would more likely be a portion of Minis Tirith (the Citadel) or the Golden Hall than Barad-dur largely because nothing happens at the tower despite its iconic nature. I personally would love to see a creature UCS set like Smaug or the Balrog but I feel that's incredibly unlikely.
  9. Hi Jenna, Welcome to customizing. I'm really new to this too but I'll help you where I can. Bricklink.com is the easiest way to get parts for customizing but as Legocrazy81 mentioned Brasso can remove the printing from any piece so you don't have to get blank pieces. For example, I recently killed a C-3PO because I needed a pearl gold torso. Brasso is really cheap and very easy to use but it smells AWFUL so if you're sensitive to that kind of thing, you may want to cover your nose. Find a cloth rag of some sort that you don't mind getting stained, put a spot of Brasso on it about the size of a quarter and firmly rub the print that you want removed on the cloth. Repeat until all of the print is gone. Try looking through the tutorials section here for answers to questions like what kind of paper/decals to use, how to apply decals, etc. Also, there is a book available from twomorrows.com called 'Minifigure Customization: Populate Your World' that is cheap and a fantastic investment for anyone who wants to learn about most any part of customization. It details everything from making decals and cloth accessories to molding your own parts.
  10. I know most of us would. But I don't think most kids are fortunate enough to get every set. I know that if I were a kid, there is no way I'd have any of the three yet. The Council set would be my first chance of getting Gimli as that's about the biggest thing I ever got when I was growing up. Now that I'm an AFOL though, I'll be putting two Gimlis and an Aragorn up on Ebay tomorrow. Dealing with not being the primary target market is just part of being an AFOL. I'm just happy that they still show us love where they can like with the corsair cameo.
  11. I was talking about the sets we already have rather than upcoming sets but even then its hard to imagine not getting at least one more Legolas in the next Hobbit wave. The only real difference is that Gimli is the same in each set. I'd love to be getting more new characters but I don't understand why people are so surprised/disappointed that they continue releasing the main characters.
  12. We have had Aragorn released in just as many sets as Gimli (at a cheaper price point, too) and just as many Legolai (I couldn't resist) if you include the Mirkwood Spiders set.
  13. I see. Right now he looks a good deal younger to me but I'm not sure how else you could address it. This is the best head I can think of but it's not perfect and it still may make him look too old. Anyway, your gang is great and I love how you have them with the culprit tied and unmasked.
  14. The point is it's a really great twelve dollar set. I expect it to do better than Gandalf Arrives or Riddles for the Ring. The vast majority of people who purchase that set will not even consider buying Orthanc so it doesn't need to fit together. That plus the size you would have to make Orthanc to fit that set in while keeping its height proportional is staggering. I agree about minifigures. I only expect there to be a few.
  15. I think the question is whether it is before, during, or after the defeat of Saruman.
  16. Welcome! Monster Fighters is on its way out I'm afraid but I'm sure you'll find something else that strikes your fancy. I'm a little jealous of the childhood stash you have waiting on you. That sounds like a fantastic treasure hunt.
  17. Are you sure they are restricted from using material from the Silmarillion? If memory serves the story of the Necromancer being driven from Mirkwood (or the bulk of it) is found in the Silmarillion. Regardless, I do not see how the fall of Numenor would be woven into the story of The Hobbit. Calmindon could be a gorgeous MOC in the right hands though. If only LOTR had enough weight in pop-culture to cause LEGO to produce Silmarillion sets.
  18. Where did you get the head for the one on the top right?
  19. Nice! Shaggy doesn't look very... shaggy... though. Do you maybe have a face with a little stubble on it or something?
  20. It's hard to say whether the set or the figures will sell for more since that set itself has new pieces and new colored pieces that are going to be VERY popular. If I were you, I'd wait until I saw what going prices were on ebay before I made my decision. For my own part, I'll probably buy four or five and only sell off Gimli and Frodo. Those new elven hairpieces are too great for me to sell off. I'll be really surprised if this isn't my favorite of the wave. Regarding Orthanc, I'd like to know its price point (within $50 at least) sooner than later so I can budget for it. It's already going to be an expensive summer but that's a good thing.
  21. I feel the same as Deathleech. You might add some variety to the landscape as well. I know it's a drab location but just a little bit would go a long way. Your textures are fantastic though.
  22. I would probably change my mind if I saw what TLG could do with a brick-built Smaug but I'm more interested in the places and I can't see a built Smaug looking exceptional unless it was a rather large set in itself. I just wish this line were successful enough that they'd get a license with the Tolkien estate when the current one ran out. Sadly, there are far less LOTR fanatics than SW fans.
  23. I've got to have a Prince Imrahil... Precisely. Gandalf basically is a lesser god/angel. And its not like Tolkien didn't have in his mind what it was Gandalf was going off to do. He left it out because it wasn't a part of Bilbo's adventure which is what The Hobbit is about. It wasn't skipped because it wasn't a critical part of the history of Middle Earth or because he hadn't decided what to do with Gandalf. Many times, Tolkien spoke of how the difference in tone of the Hobbit bothered him and he ultimately settled on just saying the Hobbit was a version that had been simplified for children from a much more detailed history. It's not as suitable for that kind of story to have multiple plot lines that you skip to and from. Now with Jackson having already done LOTR, Gandalf's part is crucial to tying the trilogies together (and honestly could be the best part of the Hobbit). Also, Galadriel WAS originally involved as was Elrond and at least one character that Jackson will probably skip.
  24. Toys R Us has Buy 1 Get 1 half off on a lot of Lego stuff right now; excluding TMNT, Chima, and a couple other things I think.
  25. Splendid, yes. Unnecessary, no. Otherwise Gandalf just disappears for huge chunks of the story and then re-materializes randomly. Plus it ties the two trilogies together neatly. And who doesn't want a Necromancer minifigure?
