You can also use axles. Place one axle in the brainstalk, and a longer one in the head piece. Simply press down on the head piece, and they pop right apart. Both that and the knife method are effective.

I thought it was an interesting use of a piece we haven't seen in a while, but that's just me. Gorast is probably my least favorite of the six Makuta that year, but that's not to say it's a bad set. The mosquito thing they were going was pulled off pretty well at least. Agreed. That set kicks megablocks.

Fair point. Having jumped into Bionicle around 2006, these were my first introduction to the characters. So I guess that's not really something that bothered me, but I totally get how it would. They are kind of a pain in the megablocks if you don't have nails, I really like the design of the lid though (minus the lack of a way to get it off ). The mask being smooth on one side and cracked on the other was pretty neat.

That's pretty brvtal \m/ Seriously though, really great job on the hands and hair in particular. Love the parts used for the belt too. well done.

Things have been pretty dry in here ever since the sudden cancellation of Bionicle's second run, so I thought I'd throw something out there, just to make things a little less dead if not anything else. Maybe it's a dead topic, but just some thoughts: Ever since the end of G2, I've been collecting old G1 sets I missed out on, particularly with canisters (It's a life goal of mine to own 1 of every canister and display them on a wall, but that's a different topic). So I stumbled across a nice lot on eBay which had 10 canister sets of different types for a very reasonable price, so I jumped on it. 3 of them happened to Mistika sets. I didn't own many of those guys back in the day, as I was occupied with the new Star Wars Clone Wars sets at the time. I like to think I've matured since, but I bandwagon hated on these guys (and other things, don't look at my posts from 4-5 years ago please) for quite some time without really giving them a chance. The lot contained Gorast, Bitil, and Gali. Having recently acquired the rest of the Toa and previously owning Krika, I now own a full set of Mistika, And honestly, I kinda like them. The Makuta, which I think most would agree fared better, are pretty great villain sets in my opinion. Each offers a bit of a different build and takes on a character of it's own. It's the Toa that seem to get a lot of hate, so lets talk about them. Starting with Gali, I thought I would despise this set before cracking open the canister and building it. After I did, however, I'm quite happy with it. Does it resemble the original Gali? not really, but I don't think that disqualifies it from being a good set. There could definitely be some more blue, and the mask is, uhh, interesting. But these aren't fatal flaws in my eyes. My main issue comes from the lack of a secondary weapon, as the way the gun is held officially is pretty awkward. Placing it in a single hand, however, makes posing tons of fun in my view. I feel maybe a scythe or spear like weapon could have gone nicely here, but alas. Nothing a few spare parts can't fix though. Onua is my favorite of the litter. The black and silver are balanced, and the red highlights go very nicely with the rest of the set. The other Toa probably could have benefited quite a bit from a little more color like that. Now I complained that having only one weapon was kinda lame with Gali, yet here I think it rocks. The way It's assembled with the black shield thing attached to the gun and the silver shield on Onua"s arm gives me a tanky vibe that I love. Think the heavy from team fortress 2. Not to mention the mask looks badass. all these things combined, and you've got yourself a great set. Tahu Mistika I don't have many excuses for. I guess the mask sorta resembles the Hau with that front thing, but it's pretty ugly otherwise. I'm just not a huge fan of this one. It doesn't pose well to me. The shield is a neat idea, but kinda clunky. I'm still kinda with the haters on this one. These are all just my thoughts of course. By all means, share yours. Are the Mistika horrid abominations? Average sets suppressed by hate memes? or hidden gems?

I for one kinda dig reviews on old sets. They fill me with nostalgia.

I've been thinking about picking up one of those before they run out, as I missed the last one. anyone who has one want to share thoughts on it? -
] I unfortunately don't own the original AAT from the early 2000's, but here's a comparison between the newer two.

There was the hailfire droid set in 2015, along with microfighters and a Jango constraction figure. I do think the starfighter would make a good set though, I like my blue one from '07. I think a new ep 2 themed slave 1 or a zam speeder would be cool, but that's about all I see being made besides more geonosis things. -
It's probably been mentioned before, but a 501st battle pack would be pretty cool. something like two 501st troopers, a heavy trooper, and a galactic marine. As for the build, I don't know, an at-rt or a speeder or something. Everyone would be buying it for the figs anyway. To rival it, a CIS pack with a crab droid build, two magna guards, a SBD, and two regular BDs would be pretty solid. I can dream.
-
I must be behind the times, I'm still perfectly happy with the one I have all the way from 2006! If I had to pick a newer one though, it would probably be the 2013 one. The only part I really dislike about it is the guns, but not a huge deal.

Does the fighter tank not have the turret on top? I'm gonna be disappointed if so.
-
I've been out of the star wars loop for a while, with my favorite theme bionicle ending once again, I'm left drifting back in here. With that said, my wish of a duel of the fates set has finally been granted, after years of waiting. Is there a US price for that yet? The fighter tank sounds kinda cool too, looking foward to seeing it.

I think it wouldn't have been as bad if the thrree larger toa had their masks blended in gold rather than silver, to better match their color schemes.

That's what I was thinking, this guy screams mask of light, and that's a good thing in my eyes. Even the face reminds me of makuta's form in the movie. very well done.

Makuta: Brute of Shadow ("Show Us Your Makuta" entry)
arc replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Excellent work as per usual, although your ownership of the gold kulta mask has increased my jelly saturation a good bit. Jokes aside, I really like how the loincloth thing and hands were done here, his legs are just a tad chunky for my taste, but it's definitely a solid entry. I just now realized it's the last day for the contest, and I haven't built a thing. Oh well, my MoCing skills aren't anywhere near on the level of some of the stuff I've seen on there anyway. good luck! -
I could see them being done in a mixels style of sorts. With the popularity of Pokémon go, it would be bound to sell. However, I'm not sure where the license currently lies.
-
I really don't have that much interest in these to be honest, but I like the black piston add on that comes with the Droid. Maybe if I make some bricklink orders, I'll get a few. As far as star wars goes, I'm still waiting for a darth maul to be made.
-
I'm playing with some ideas, I'm definitely not that best MOCer, but I'll probably throw in an entry just for fun.

Toa galacia is definitely my favorite here, the torso build in particular really sells it for me. Plus I dig the arm blades. Nice work on these.

THEORY: The logic in Skull Scorpio's ugly tail
arc replied to Logan McOwen's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I quite like the idea of this actually, I heard a similar idea in Nickonaquamagna's summer wave review on youtube. The set is still pretty wierd, but it has an awkward charm to it, and this seems to be the explanation for them I like the most. It's headcanon for me. -
here's the trans-orange umarak with the new mask, should anyone be interested.

Since I heard about the free quake beast, I decided to go ahead and finish up the summer wave. So I'll give some thoughts on them: Ekimu: I expected to really lIke ekimu, and I did, just not quite as much as I thought. The limbs just seem odd to me for some reason, and he's maybe just like, ()that much heavy on the trans blue, but it works well enough. Im totally down with bother new Masks he includes, and the weapons are pretty good. Not my favorite, but pretty solid all things considered. Lava beast: this guy looks like it crawled straight out of hell, and I love it. The "wings" are slightly awkward at times, and maybe the lower legs are a little wierd, but thats all I got in terms of cons, the horns, the claws, the colors, particularly the trans black that looks like smoke, this guy is pretty good. Storm beast: (or strom beast according to my local TRU) instantly became my favorite after building it. I know I just raved about lava, but this is like a bionicle raptor. I swear it looks so much better in hand than in pictures, as I thought it was kinda average at first. And yeah, it's got flaws, the wierd arms and claws in particular, but the function it's built around is brilliant. Major props to lego for finding new ways to make theses guys interesting. And let's not forget the colors, the dark blue and trans green work marvelously together, and the trans blue fits in nicely. Overall, this one is my favorite from the summer wave. Quake beast: I'll admit I don't care for this one as much as the others, it's not a really bad set, it's really not, it's just not that great. I appreciate the creativity in the function, even though the way it's done is a little awkward. The sideways gearbox really doesn't bother me, although it's a little awkward in motion as the crystals on his shoulder can hit him in the head when you swing. The solid purple face is a little off putting, not quite as bad as I thought it could be, but still a kinda jarring at times. Quake beast is probably my least favorite of the summer, but he's really not bad. Dommarak: we finally get a hefty set for g2, and I like it. He reminds me of gadunka, just with a puny head. The destroyer can be awkward to pose, and the hands are a little strange in design, although I like that they managed to squeeze a function in there. The ribcage pieces stick out a bit more than I'd like, though. the legs and torso were done pretty well, although the the bone type on his ankles limits articulation a bit. The head is pretty wierd. I feel if they recolored the jaw in gold, or just didn't use one whatsoever and made the head a little different, it could've been improved quite a bit. the technic neck doesn't bother me as much as I'd thought it would, although definitely awkward from some angles. I like this one, but I prefer the hunter. So overall I feel the wave did pretty good, and I'm looking forward to the next as always.

Can you connect a Garai to the new 2015 heads of the toa?
arc replied to Yusaku Hayakawa's topic in LEGO Action Figures
It can be connected, but it doesn't line up with the eyes, or look very good.
