  1. Looks simply amazing. What line is the torso in this picture from? First I thought it was a SP I / black Futuron torso, but the logo is different and I can't place it.
  2. Delightful take on the fire brigade. This is the first mod I've seen that truly has a custom design but still is a fire station. It indeed looks much more european, and would very likely also work as townhouse. The silhouette of the building already reminds me of a mirrored Green Grocer.
  3. well done, great moc :)
  4. I've been thinking about the 'two buildings with an alleyway inbetween' rumour regarding the detective agency. The general consensus has been that we'll get two individual buildings with an alleyway right in the middle, so two buildings like in Pet Shop, but with space between them. However: If we were two assume that each of the two buildings would have an individual baseplate (which seems very likely), we face a problem: If the alleyway is on the same level as the sidewalk, then there's nowhere to put the technic bricks for the connector pins! Now I don't see Lego abandoning the modular standard here, so this leaves three options: - the two buildings will share one baseplate, which would be odd - the alley is raised by at least one brick (proosible, but also kind of odd) - we won't get two 14 (13, whatever) wide buildings, but one 16 wide and a smaller one. Then the connector pins could be hidden inside dumpsters or something alike. I'm very curious how this will end up looking.
  5. Thx for the feedback :) Guess I'll take them out and find a pülace to store them.
  6. I bought Benny's Spaceship³ this May and built it sometime during the summer. I mainly have it up on display, but of course I tested the various functions. Those spring loaded launchers deliver quite some force . So my question is: Do I have to fear any damage to the launchers if I leave the 'missiles' in over looong periods of time? The springs apparently are quite forceful, so I'm kinda afraid that at some point the launchers will suffer some damage (i.e. cracking). I'd rather have them in their place so they won't get lost.
  7. This pretty much sums up my feelings about GE. It has kinda grown on me (at the beginning I really only got it so I wouldn't miss out on it), but it still is my least favorite of the modulars (have to add 'I already built' - still haven't built my Town Hall, which I have a feeling won't rank among my favorites aswell). The ground floor of GE is ok, but the build still is less exciting than that of the ground floors of all the other modulars. And the top floors are just plain boring to build, for the exact reasons you posted. At least the facade of the thing has grown on me, when I got it I didn't like that at all either.
  8. When I ordered the dark red slopes for Cafe Corner, I was very much not amused to see that they cost about twice as much in that color. All the other colors literally were 50% cheaper. Kinda pissed me off, but it was still a lot cheaper than bricklinking them
  9. Usually, lego doesn't distinguish between different molds of the same piece. For example, you'll often find 1x2 jumpers with and without bottom groove within the same set. Of course, 4 studs instead of two is a much more noticable difference.
  10. Looks promising. The protuding extensions of the front facade to either side of the original build alreyd give it a much more dynamic and grander feel.
  11. Finally got my last order from BL, so now I can start building Café Corner. Only bummer is I accidentally ordered dark red headlight bricks instead of reddish brown, but I figure itw on't really show in the finished building.
  12. It will end in 18 months. Source: http://www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/unternehmen/lego-beendet-spielzeug-aktion-mit-shell-nach-greenpeace-kritik-a-996299.html (in german, relevant bit: "Nach Greenpeace-Informationen endet der Vertrag in 18 Monaten, er soll einen Wert von umgerechnet rund 81 Millionen Euro haben.", so it's Greenpeace that released this information. However, I don't see why they would claim it will end sooner than it really will)
  13. Bummer 'bout there being no announcement yesterday. I was really hoping for it. The german lego shop had all the older modulars listed as being readily available last time I checked. Right now, it seems to be down, though.
  14. Very nice buildings, thanks a lot for sharing :) Yep. This would be a solution I could definitely live with.
  15. Interesting about the alleyway. Not really sure what to think about that. If it's open to the top (which I assume as otherwise it would just be an open passageway, similare to GG), I don't really see how they would pull off a building to either side of it without them being extremely small. I didn't mind the fact that PR had the terrace to the side, but two buildings that at most are 12-14 studs wide seems overly crowded. I'd also expect that we'd get a (possibly external) staircase at the back for access to the upper floors. But I hope we'll know more by tomorrow.
  16. The Blue Grocer was absolutely worth it, instantly one of my favorite modulars. And 90€ over MSRP isn't too bad, considering what a green one would've cost... I'm still waiting on the orders for Cafe Corner to arrive, haven't started building yet. That one had a few bits that were harder to swallow, several lots that were quite costly (the dark red slopes, the white skis...). But I expect it to be fun to build aswell, especially since I designed an interior for the ground floor, looking forward to how that will come together. Still, when I think about the fact that I basically spent 500€ for two lego buildings, I kinda wonder if I went a little crazy.
  17. cimddwc used it in his CHima Trikes store, which gives a good idea how striking this color can look on a modular-type building: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=99030&hl
  18. With all orders for my Cafe Corner placed, I just did some statistics for my Blue Grocer and Cafe Corner. Guess the net results might be interesting for those of you still wondering wether to tackle these projects. Starting point for both buildings was a Pet Shop I bought used for 120€ (incl. shipping). For the Blue Grocer, I used 871 bricks from Pet Shop, thus they cost me 51,44€. I also used 170 parts from my collection. The remaining bricks I got through 12 different bricklink orders that put together cost 153€ plus 32€ shipping. The overall cost of my Blue Grocer was roughly 237€, which I find perfectly ok. I propably could have saved a few bucks by placing fewer but bigger BL orders, but what the hell. Replacements I did for the Blue Grocer: Sand blue replacing Sand green, Reddish Brown replacing Dark Green, modern windows replacing the train windows. Also replaced some of the modern 1x4x3 windows with two 1x2x3, because I had an abundance of those from the Pet Shop. The sand green hinge bases were replaced by black ones, and the blue curved bricks in the awning with green ones. Lastly, the store was tiled in medium blue instead of dark red. For Cafe Corner, I used 322 parts from Pet Shop, thus they cost me 19,02€. My collection yielded another 197 bricks. The remaining bricks I got through 6 bricklink orders, one online PAB order and one BnP order that all put together cost roughly 215€ plus 29€ shipping. The overall cost for Cafe Corner will be roughly 265€, however that already includes the ~175 pieces I ordered to create an interior for the ground floor. Though I managed with fewer BL orders than for Blue Grocer, I still ended up with almost the same shipping costs, as some of the stores I ordered from charged considerably more for it. Replacements for Cafe Corner: Modern 1x2x3 windows instead of the panels, modern 1x4x3 windows instead of the old 2x4x3 windows. All walls adapted to be only one stud wide instead of two where the two studs width was only because of the original window design. I'm using two black doors, 1x4x5 with trans-clear glass (p73436c01) from an old police station instead of the expensive ones. Last, I replaced the two dark blue half arches and the bricks supporting them under the stairs with black (this will be completely invisible in the finished build). And since there were only three stores selling light bley turntable bases in Germany, I will either use old gray or black ones.
  19. I'd love a building in cool yellow. Someone posted a cool yellow MOC a while back (think it was the Chima Trikes store), and it looked absoutely fabulous. I really hope we won't get another tan/grey building, as we already had two buildings mainly in those colors.
  20. Just wondering - since I admire pretty much all of the buildings you posted so far: Do you plan your buildings ahead in something like LDD, or do you just sit down and build away?
  21. This is absolutely brilliant.
  22. I used 871 pieces from PS when I built my Blue Grocer. Apart from the sand blue, I also substitued the dark green from GG with Reddish Brown. I propably used another couple dozen bricks from PS to do an interior for the Blue Grocer. I spent a lot of time planning all the substituation, though.
  23. No, it's Bricks and Pieces, something very similar hidden away in the customer service section of the site. It's slightly more expensive than online PAB (by about 10%), but offers a larger selection of bricks.
  24. I had a problem yesterday when I ordered something. It all worked find until I clicked on Checkout. Then Firefox just showed me a completely empty page. Tried multiple times without any luck. Then I tried a program that can be used to view webpages (i.e. Internet Explorer), and from there it worked. Never had any kind of propblem before, not sure if it was a Firefox problem or something on the site not propertly deployed for real webbrowsers.
  25. Yeah, I planned an interior for the ground floor aswell. Hope I didn't miscalculate the # of pieces I'd need for it :D Migfht do one for the upper floors later. Otherwise it'd be mny only modular without interior on some levels.
