  1. Well, I just posted orders with BnP and PAB for some of the more expensive pieces for Café Corner. Dark Blue bricks including the arch, the dark red slopes (even at 55 Cents they were way cheaper than on Bricklink - though why the dark red ones cost nearly twice as much as all the other colors is beyond me - felt kinda scalped when I saw that), a couple of the tan arches and tan and light bley 1x8 bricks, which oddly aren't available in useful quantities at a lot of bricklink stores on Germany.
  2. Guys, just let it go. We've had this discussion several times within this thread alone (plus more repetitions in other threads), usually with the same few people belligerently criticizing PR for mostly flimsy reasons. The only argument that doesn't boil down to a simple, yet provocatively worded "I don't like (some aspect of) it!" really is that PR offers less enclosed space than the previous full-sized modulars. It's getting really old. Edit: Uhm, yeah. Simultaneous posting ftw :)
  3. Exactly. It's funny to see how some people are able to work themselves up to disliking something that so far hasn't even been seen or confirmed at all. Something like a detective agency would be in line with previous modulars such as Pet Shop or Green Grocer in that the business it represents has little influence on the overall architectural style of the building(s). Saying 'it doesn't sound interesting to build' based on the freaking name of the thing is pretty farfetched. How much fun the build will be will be determined by the design of the building, not the business.
  4. 1 Blue Grocer (BLed) 2 Fire Brigades (one built, one MISB) 2 Grand Emporiums (one built, one MISB) 2 Pet Shops (one sacrificed for the Blue Grocer) 1 Town Hall 1 Palace Cinema 1 Parisian Restaurant I plan to get MISB copies of PC, PS and PR aswell.
  5. I'd also prefer Jamie as the designer. Town Hall looks pretty boring, imho. I could live without the elevator feature as well, a conventional stairway would've been nicer (and there's plenty room for that). Palace Cinema to me was a good building, but nowhere near as good as Jamies masterpieces (Green Grocer, Parisian Restaurant, Fire Brigade...well, pretty much all of them except the big empty box...I mean the Grand Emporium).
  6. A question for those who BLed (or just built) Cafe Corner: Is it possible to build the facade of the upper floor just one stud wide when using regular windows instead of the wall elements? From looking at the instructions, the second layer of bricks seems to serve no structural purpose other than to support the wall elements, and removing it shouldn't be too hard, it being another color and all. Also, does anyone know if there are any high quality PDFs of the instructions of cafe Corner available? I downloaded them from several sites, but it always was the same pdf. It's very blurry, color distinguation is hard and especially in the second manual the darker colors blur together. Sometimes it's very hard to even make out individual bricks.
  7. I'm done (almost) Still missing one of the wedge plates for the roof, will get that shortly. The build was lots and lots of fun, and the resulting building is a magnificient piece - and it's huuuuge. I used: 871 bricks from Pet Shop 170 from my own collection 1335 from Bricklink From BL I got about 80 percent new bricks, the rest was used but in great condition (with one very ugly, badly chewed exception, but I had gotten some spares anyway). Most expensive ones were the three printed reddish brown tiles with the viking snakes pattern, at 2€ each. I miscalculated some with the Sand Blue bricks and ordered too few of the 1x6 bricks, ran out of them after the second to last layer of sand blue bricks. Luckily, I had ordered too many of the 1x4 and 1x1s, so I was still able to finish the building. Future plans: - use some of the remaining inventory of the Pet Shop I sacrificed to create some furniture for this building. - replace the four 2x3 windows on the upper left of the front facade with two 4x3 windows, as in the original plans. I like the look of the doubled 2x3s in the bay windows, and don't mind them in the back of the building, but they don't work for me in the dormer windows. - Bricklink Café Corner
  8. Thinking about it, Detective Agency as a business doesn't really scream "Ground Floor" for me. Isn't the old-times cliché for these things that you go up a set of stairs, then through an anteroom, where the secretary has her desk, and then there's a door with a milky glass window, behind which the detective's office is located? Ground Floor might work aswell, but I'd prefer it if it was occupied by some other business. A laundromat maybe?
  9. The last two bricklink orders for my Blue Grocer arrived today. This is the pile of bricks after I checked the two last orders: Unfortunately, I'm still missing 13 parts, but I started building anyway, and now I'm almost done with the ground floor. The 13 missing parts consist of 5 pieces the bricklink sellers forgot, and 8 light bley goblets that I forgot to order, apparently. I can still build pretty much the entire building, the only real bummer is that one of the missinge pieces is one of the 3x6 wedge pieces that form the roof above the bay windows. So I'll end up doing one more bricklink order next week... possibly also containing a first batch of bricks that I'll need for Café Corner, even though I'm not planning to tackle that one in the foreseeable future.
  10. That would be very cool. I'd imagine a classic english-style building.
  11. Only if you want to build a Sand Blue Green Grocer.
  12. First two BL orders for my Blue Grocer arrived today. 1100 pieces to go, all of them already ordered. 2 orders from the Netherlands with roughly 450 bricks (including the brown tiles with the printed viking pattern) are already shipped. I finished ordering on Saturday, so far I got invoices from 7 of the remaining 8 orders, the seller of the 8th one so far hasn't reacted. He stated in his store terms that he'd send an invoice within 48 hours, so I'll propably be fine, but still, I already started wondering what I'll do if this creates a longer delay. I'm itching to get all the parts together so I can start building
  13. Wow, almost missed this one. Absolutely georgous building with tons of detailing everywhere, consistent and thought-through architecture and a great color scheme. All thumbs up!
  14. Thanks for this detailed look at the old modulars. It's real fun to read this :)
  15. Nonexistent. I build sets on my living room table, and also built my last MOC there. Classic Space sets usually get built at my computer table in my study (I sometimes buy bulk lots on Ebay and try to work out what sets went into the pile of bricks. Then I pull the set's inventory from the lot, add missing pieces from my collection and build away) I don't really like working at my living room table, but it's the only one with enough room to put all the parts (I don't buy many sets, but the ones I do buy are usually huge, modulars etc). The lighting there isn't the best, and it's dark wood/black glass surface don't exactly help. I'll have to work something out there.
  16. Still waiting for the parts, but soon You guessed correct, my screenname is an American Dad reference.
  17. These look amazing I placed a number of Bricklink orders today, so unless I forgot something or miscalculated one of the many brick replacements I undertook, I'll soon have on of my own. Hope the bricklink orders get here fast, I look forward to building this very much. I'll also put some more interior in the upstairs rooms, but I'll just use bricks left over from the Pet Shop I sacrificed for this. Little fun fact: I also ordered green bows instead of blue ones for the store's canopy, just like you guys did . The blue ones are ridiculously expensive, and the green gives a much nicer contrast anyway.
  18. Best mod I've seen so far. One suggestion: How about changing the four-wide and the six-wide windows on the left side of the ground floor around? That way, the columns inbetween would line up with the columns on the facade above.
  19. Placed the first BL order for my Blue Grocer yesterday. Roughly 350 pieces for a little over 30€ incl. shipping. Lots of small plates and tiles in that one. I estimate that I'll be able to place 2 additional orders of that size or maybe slightly larger to get the bulk of bricks, plus a couple of small ones to get the rarer parts that only few shops carry. Unfortunately, for some items I'll need to place orders from stores in other countries, which will increase shipping costs.
  20. Looks great. Seeing a sand-blue example makes me look forward to getting all the parts for mine even more. Maybe changing the light bley to dark bley would improve the contrast, if you don't like it? Personally I think it looks perfectly fine - most buildings in real life have rather muted colors aswell, after all.
  21. That would be very cool. Must've missed that on my first few orders, will keep an eye open for it. Thanks
  22. BREAKING NEWS!!! BREAKING NEWS!!! A rogue space-droid appeared on top of a Tampa skyscraper today. The droid, described as a 'beeping can' by experts, decapitated two local patrons before throwing their heads into shallow water pools. Right now, he's guarding his victims, propably waiting for more gullible citizens to appear. Police have cleared the area. Just kidding Brilliant work, looks very impressive and realistic. I like the dynamics in the facade, looks very interesting.
  23. Another question: I currently have a Wanted List with 190 different items in it that I want to clear (by buying the parts) in the next few weeks. Now my question is, is there a way to have bricklink automatically remove the items in an order from the Wanted list, if the bought amount matches or exceeds the amount specified in the Wanted list? I only used bricklink for smaller orders up until now, and remember I always had to remove the items from the Wanted list manually after buying. Doing that for such a large amount of pieces seems very impractical.
  24. I guess we'll see the next modular in late winter/early spring. Way more than enough time for the remaining GE-stock to dwindle, just as Fire Brigade slowly was phased out when the release of PR was confirmed. On a side-note, seems like Haunted House has run its course, it's been out of stock on lego.com for quite some time now. While it isn't a modular, it was very popular among the modular fans, so I think it's worth a mention here.
  25. Kind of reminds me of a video Ashens once did about fake Lego (the part about edible brickstyle candy is right at the beginning, but the whole video is worth watching)
