BrickWarriors Battle Packs at Five Below
Repeter replied to LibraryBoy's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
What is a Five Below?!? And why don't we have them is Wisconsin?!? -
I know, I was just messing with you. ;) Yeah, I sort of agree. I've thought long and hard how LEGO could pull it off. I think we would be left with a somewhat 'too' thick of a hair piece if stability/breakage was a big concern. I wouldn't mind a thinner, weaker piece, but I'm not exactly TLG's target customer.

^This person is truthin'! Except, the term 'African-American' seems a bit underwhelming on a site called 'Eurobricks'...cuz y'know, a lot of folks here aren't American? Either way, LEGO needs to figure out how to mold some good hair for black people. It's getting to the point of being insulting.

I really like that Cyborg...I'll be picking up that set, pronto. Also, those wheels on the wheelchair make it for me--very classic looking. Great job, ReZourceman
-
I did pick up some of the new sets and was thinking the SWAT bodies would make good SHIELD agents. I'll throw a few together tonight and post them and we can judge for ourselves. @ReZourceman: Can't wait to see your Prof X--he is done in a classic style, like autorazr's, correct? Loving yours too, ianmrid

Lol, the super hero line has been out for a few years and DC at least got the Arkham Asylum set...Simpson's hasn't even arrived and already they get sweet 2500+ piece set with a great line-up of minifigs. I am more convinced then ever that it is not TLG that is holding the line back, but the licensed partners. Carry on.

Well, one of us had to, eventually. Can't wait to see them. The Angel is cool enough, though he does have a bit of 'giraffe' neck going on. I am loving Toyman from autorazr and Metallo from the new LEGO movie sets is brilliant...I have those pieces and am going to make that minifig right now. Great idea, Super Goblin.

Aw, well thanks for the kind words, fellows. This little club of ours is great--very inspirational. On to some new customs. I just ordered a bunch of parts off of B'link, so hopefully I can amp my production again (some other hobbies have taken my time up, until winter hit hard in Wisconsin). I have a bunch of stuff in mind, much of it inspired by the work you guys have posted here. **My images seem huge, no matter how small I make them in P'bucket...I seem to remember a trick to make them reasonably sized, like adding "width=500" to the link or something? Let's start with some X-Peeps: Leech: Jubilee (need to workon this one still): Beast (would love a better torso, here): Angel: Storm: Storm, non-purist (cut the beard off, lol...also, not in focus, but since it's not purist, who cares?): Man-Wolf (also out of focus, what was I doing?!? Also, I thought I'd come up with this idea on my own, until I saw ReZourceful's diorama, at which point I realize I must've stolen it from him. Oops: Diamondback (Ah, that ugly face): And let's finish up with some DC, sarting with this cheery fellow, Hush: Firefly: Arrow and co (PLEEEEEEZE, LEGO!! Make some good hair for a handsome, black man!!):

Hey guys, don't know if you remember me, but between pages 9 and 20ish, I was really pumping these out (with ReZourceman's inspirational help, of course). I've really enjoyed all the great customs of the last few pages, even if I haven't commented. Special mention to autorazr, who keeps finding new ways to make fun stuff. On the homefront, I have been making some new customs again. I'll snap pics tonight and post them, see what you all think.

Yeah, I ended up finally going with Stass Allie, from Star Wars, a few months back. She works alright.

Lol, boring labs and bases? The world is progressing? Your opinions, although stated as facts, are in fact, just opinions. This is my last words for you, as this is so not the place for this (but you called me out, so I'm returning the favor): I don't care if you like how I criticize something or not...but, my whole last paragraph is all about proposed changes I feel would make the line better. I know how to criticize and don't need you help in that regard. I also don't need to hear, for the umpteenth time, that LEGO makes these sets for kids. I was a kid once too. A Spidey trike would've been just as lame then as it is now (IN MY OPINION!!!! Is that allowed anymore?). I also have made over 150 Marvel and DC purist customs and know that the same Spidey, over and over again is boring. There are only so many customs one can do with that one minifig. As to other customs, do you even know about the many great customizers out there? Go google Christo and tell me his customs aren't up to par. If you would like to argue with me further on this, take it to PM. This is not the place for it. This place is for opinions and wishes for the new sets, which my post was all about. Thanks for caring, though.

I used to be a completist...but not anymore. There is no way I am buying the Man-Bat set when both my custom Nightwing and Man-Bat are world's better than the official minifigs. I'll skip the Riddler Chase set too, as the Flash is the only reason I can think of to buy the set. I'd rather spend $50 on a Christo or some other customizer than buy that set. This way, I'll get leg printing on Flash too! The Steamroller set is decent, even if that plane is hot garbage. A couple good minifigs and the Steamroller itself make it worthwhile. The Spidey sets are even worse. Everyone of those Spidey vehicles is a bad joke and we all know it. Any other view is just being apologetic. That kids might like them is no excuse--kids would like better vehicles and/or bases too. The GG is sooo bad, the Luke Cage and MJ easy customs...the only attractive things in all the Spidey waves are: the new Doc Ock (shouldn't be too bad to pick up on B'link), the armored car from that set and MJ's torso. The rest is bad, bad, bad. The Avengers, at least, got good sets. Good minifigs, a decent, if a bit ordinary base and the tank is pretty cool, imo. I will be buying both of those. I'm just not keen to throw my money at LEGO for bad sets anymore. I wouldn't have like these as a kid (lots of kids have good taste, if we just listen to them) and I def don't like them now. LEGO needs to figure out what they want to do with these lines. They need to figure out that these lines don't want the same treatment as other lines. Super heros are about characters...lots and lots of characters. No one wants the same five characters, redone to point of nausea. Super heros are about battles in cool locations, with cool vehicles. No one wants a dang Spidey trike. What the heck is a Spidey trike?!? My $.02? Do some collectible minifig lines and concentrate more on things that have happened within the DC and Marvel universes. Star Wars, HP, LotR? They all concentrate on things that have actually happened in their particular universes and have great sets because of it.

I'd tell you more about how I felt when first seeing this MOC, but Eurobricks doesn't allow swearing. To give a clue, it started with "HOLEEEE....".

I don't understand the hate for the USM cartoon. I'm a 40yo Marvel fan and the bulk of my comic collection hails from the early 60s to the late 80s (those early issues were affordable in the 80s), so I guess you could safely call me "old skool". I think the USM cartoon is a blast and an actual original concept for a toon. The action is great, the comedy is pretty golden and the line-up of character makes for a great series, imo. I would have very little problem if the show was used as a basis for a slew of new minifigs, as many of the characters resemble their classic versions.

The good: Avengers sets...MODOK, Falcon, Taskmaster, Hydra Agent, Red Skull, classic versions of Cap and Thor makes for a great line-up of must haves. The builds aren't super horrible, and at least usable. In fact, I'll be getting two of the Cap/Skull set for the figs and will try a MOC or two out for some morw Hydra vehicles. The bad: Spiderman sets. Ugh. That helicopter "rescue" ser has exactly one brick I want, which is MJs super-cute hoodie. The rest is easily made through purist means (MJ and Luke Cage), redundant (same costume again, Spidey?) or just just plain fugly (the green goblin looks like my cat's hairball, which is mostly on USM, not LEGO). The trike is forgivable, I guess, but I'm not too sure about that Electro. At least the Doc Ock set is a bit more of a value. Sure, it comes with the same ole Spidey, but a "heist" worthy vehicle and a guard are always useful and the Doc looks great. The ugly: Seriously, that Green Gobbo is horrendous. Here are some more things that come to mind when I look at it: Ear wax, LotRs monster, 90s Gargoyles cartoon (which was actually pretty cool and would look sweet in brick), a pile of boogers, Grinch-on-roids...

Hey y'all, Netflix and Disney/Marvel just announced a new deal: Limited, streaming series for Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones that will culminate in The Defenders!!! This will happen in 2015, so perhaps this isn't the right place for it. :) Anyway, I always love a possible new source for some sweet minifigs.

Sorry if I find your 'figures' and slant to be very short-sighted..much like TLG. Figures from 2009 (when the 5% figure was floated to us) do not show what is happening in today's rapidly changing world. These figures also do not show the secondary market activity, of which AFOLs most likely make up the vast bulk of. Labelling observation as 'anecdotal evidence' has long been the fallback argument of the stubborn and the unimaginative (I am not saying this is you, Darth--just how I see that bspecific statement). I am quite sure that in any market research, kids like playing with bases/forts/structures. If you would like to trust a pile corporate research whose main goal is to follow the 'safer' route (in this case, a saturation of vehicles), by all means, it seems as if TLG has your back. I, however, want more and will continue to critique and give anecdotal evidence (the basis of all such research) of what I think could be better. Is that cool with ya, Darth? On topic, thanks for the pics, Slim Shady. I will def scoop that Penguin set, despite no real new figs. I want those cute penguins and that vehicle. That Man-Bat set, however, is a no go. The Man-Bat is just sad--no ripped jeans even? I'm older, so I would much rather have a Nightwing in blue (I assume it's the younger folk who are into the "New 52"? Last, do I really need another Batman in black? For once, the build is the most interesting part of a set, to me.

Yeah, I don't really trust TLG's market research. They are beholden to a set of standards they have always put on themselves and none of us really know the motives behind the saturation of vehicles over locations, in the super hero lines. I do know that I have a ton of nieces, nephews and friends my age with kids. Almost to a tee, they build themselves bases and forts to play on/in. The older kids love the sets like Joker's Funhouse and the Lone Ranger silver mine (I watched them have a sweet fight between the Avengers and the TMNT on it). I would also point out that AFOLs spend lots and lots of $$ on LEGO. I hope TLG realizes that the super hero lines could be a particular cash cow from the AFOL crowd...so far, the 2014 line up looks like they haven't yet.

If that is the real deal Man-Bat, I'd be pretty disappointed. My purist custom using the werewolf legs is way better. TLG should at least put some new leg printing on it. I really don't think that photo is legit.

Nope, I disagree. Google 'Agent Coulson' and bask in the large number of images which depict him with a closed coat. I'm not saying it would be perfect (for instance, I'd like the coat to have his ID badge on it), but a perfectly acceptable purist custom is easily attainable right now. I would just rather have LEGO make a new superhero with great, iconic printing than some dude in a suit jacket. Either way, it's a negligible point, since we are mostly getting a bunch of Spidermans.

Seriously? How these sets could even begin to placate the masses is beyond me. There may be a good minifig or two in the bunch, but most are fairly tired rehashes or strange variations that don't match up at all. Why would anyone even want a New52 Nightwing (at least give us a blue version first)?!? Especially along with a BtB Batman in the same wave? There is theme, no direction, no sense of location...mostly stupid vehicles that are so uninspiring I wish any one of a hundred MOCers on this very site had gotten to plan them instead. Who is planning these? The only excuse is that committee after committee must've vetoed all the 'cool' out of them. The Joker steamroller is a big miss, if that is what we get. That could've been cool, but it's not. I guess the Penguin vehicle is pretty good, but it might just look that good because of all the Blahsville around it. In fact, the whole DC/Marvel/Disney/Fox/TLG miasma depresses me. I just want some good sets, some themes--both movies and classic/toon. Gimme some bases, some iconic structures or vehicles (HeLLOOOoooo, Star Labs? the Fantasticar? The Blackbird? The Watchtower? The Danger Room? Just to name a few...how hard is this?). I am pretty sure too many people within the various corporate entities involved in these projects are trying to justify a professional existence by having opinions. Great super hero product is never going to come out of that.
