  1. While 9364 offers the most details I, too, go with 6380. It's just the overall design that makes this the best hospital for me. Unfortunately it isn't so easy to find, either. Rarely pops one up at ebay in good condition. I agree about the job not well done. Dunno why that is. 7892 is a design desaster, IMHO. Away with the baseplate and make a second "tower" (if it has to be one) and you got a way better set. So we have to buy two (or three) to make a better set and give the left-over baseplates to our pets to play with...
  2. Someone just pointed me to this: LEGO clock (with instructions) Anybody seen this already? Guess I'll have to build it and try it out :-)
  3. To be honest, that doesn't look too bad. That theme was available during my dark ages, so I don't know anything about it, but it doesn't look too futuristic or mech-y... ok, I can do without the catapult, but other than that I can even imagine that set to be an underwater exploration station. Sure looks better than that yellow-dark-transblue Aquazone or whatever its name...
  4. As mentioned before last weekend Berlin saw the annual "1000 Steine Land", 1000steine.com's annual LEGO exhibition. This year also "featured" VIP visits from TLC's highest levels. Friday was "members-only-day" and visitors were told by those VIPs about a new train set for 2007, aimed at AFOLS. Not much has been confirmed and pictures weren't allowed, but it's supposed to be some sort of "creator set for trains". It'll include about 900 pieces for a (IMHO hefty) price of $100/
  5. After establishing EB's favorite Police Station and favorite Fire Station we now come to something every city/town needs but due to mysterious circumstances LEGO cities/towns have lacked over the past: the hospital. Still, there were a few. Which one is your favorite? Vote here and share your thoughts about the set(s) :-) Here are the candidates (Click thumbs for bigger pictures) 1. 363/555 Hospital 1975/76 brought us the first minifig-sized hospital. It's from the Enviro-Model line and comes with the "motionless" minifigs and sports the classic station look although it actually isn't a station in the classic sense. I think the red color is supposed to display red bricks as we see in UK and US suburbs sometimes. Hence lots of sets back then were red - methinks... 2. 6380 Emergency Treatment Center Long time no see, only in 1987 we got the next hospital set. It doesn't have the classic station look as the police and fire stations of that time but we clearly see where the design comes from. But it seems the time designing it was well spent. 3. 9364 Hospital No more hospitals until 1993. But this time the DACTA line produced a hospital. I included this in this poll because albeit its size it's minifig scale and could fit a town. And it's probably the set with the best and most accessories among hospitals. Tons of minifigs, two cars, and nicely done and very well detailed interior. 4. 7892 Hospital 2006 has arrived. Many a minifig has suffered and even died due to the ancient equipment of LEGO towns' hospitals. Some towns even didn't have any treatment facilities at all and lots of expensive emergency transports to neighboring towns were necessary. Poverty was just one result of that. But the upper echelons finally recognized the need for a modern health care facility, and finally, after years of pain, funds were raised for... an oversized baywatch HQ: Well, that was it. Not a big choice, is it? Anyhow, lets vote and share our thoughts on these sets. Vote on!
  6. Well, summer comes to an end (at least here) and I hereby declare EB's favorite fire station: 6382 Fire Station A true classic :-) Voting's still possible but won't be taken into account anymore.
  7. Your predictions are making me
  8. Thanks to this and this thread I bought a police boat and another fire truck... damn, this message board is getting me broke...
  9. It's always the same with those sales: it should read "Besides Bionicle and Duplo over 5 items on sale"...
  10. If you're into neither, though... ... it is :-P ;-)
  11. Just the thought makes me :-X :-X :-X
  12. Toolbox on S@H Not available everywhere, though...
  13. Is that a battle pack? Anything smaller just wouldn't do it for me...
  14. Hmm... The only LEGO parts I have no problem modding (i.e. cutting) are 9V track, especially switches. I haven't done it, though, me is too clumsy ;-) I rather buy them from a pro. I have thought about modifying bricks, but never did, cos either I didn't build what I had in mind or built it in a different way. Since I'm somewhat impatient when it comes to "fiddling" I never went through all the trouble. I think, for big models like we see on brickshelf/exhibitions modding isn't necessary. At that scale there's enough room for improvising or snotting away (which usually solves the problem). At a smaller scale I can understand that the thought crosses one's mind. I'm impartial, I'd say. I haven't done it, I won't do it, but I'm not outraged when I see it, either. In this model I didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out ;-)
  15. Excellent review - again *y* If you need someone to compare your building speed to: I'm probably the slowest builder even when I'm not doing a review. The Mobile Crane took me about 20 hours (over four days), not including two evenings of sorting before I started building ;-) Although you're review makes the truck look pretty good I'm still not sure if i'll get it. I think I'll try the Crawler Crane and most definitely the Tractor first. I've thought about doing a review of my (not yet built) 8455 but since I haven't built it yet and seeing how many technical terms I need I'll have to think about it again. I think reading about "that black thingy with the two thingies sticking out of it" or the like could be a bit... weird... ;-) So, I'm rather looking forward to more of your reviews *sweet* PS: I understood that! :'-)
  16. That is funny :-D
  17. ... and there ;-) I've seen them quite often now, but they're always funny again :-D
  18. This review deserves its own topic, so I used my new powers :-) He just asked because you asked me to review it and I agreed. He didn't want "to take it away from me". He was just being considerate ;-) As for the review: I know the set already and know what treasures it hides, but the review itself was very nicely done, including the pics. Good work *y*
  19. Trans black, maybe... Ballsy... White would defy the whole purpose...
  20. True, but it makes me wanna know, know, know, know, KNOW! :-P ;-)
  21. Stop... teasing! *sing* :-P
  22. Um... I did not check out UHAUHA's gallery, so I DO NOT KNOW WHAT'S IN THE CALENDAR! ... except for what you guys tell here *sing* :-P ;-)
  23. That is correct, yet... ... we get (new) sets every year, whereas the last Space/Pirates/Western/<fill in theme name here> set has been sold in... what... 1990-something..? So, it's been the most consistent theme over the years, you can't deny that. That they're not bringing anything new set-wise is a whole different story (even SW has a little of that problem with all the re-releases of x-wings and the like). :-P *ROFL*
  24. *sing* Psssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssst! *wacko* ;-) I think yoda mentioned he got it at TRU. Can't remember having it seen here in stores, though.
  25. Indeed lucky we don't have such silly forrum rules here. All hail to the mayor!! I like the sound of that *sweet* Nevertheless, while we do wander off topic *cough* once in a while *cough* we always get back on topic again. So lets do this here, too, shall we? Good :-) I know I still owe a review of 6559 and 6560, but I'm taking care of my parents-in-law's house for most of the month of August and I'm rarely at my apartment. But I'll do my best to squeeze in some time on one of the next weekends. All I can say: great sets with nice little details, great accessories, true classic System :-)
