  1. Thanks for all the comments! I think it is quite interesting since it sparkles off different views on architecture. I intentionally use light colors for the new expansion, because any brighter / bolder colors will compete with the old building. It is wrong, to me, that you use something strong like brown or dark blue to make it too bulky. Using glass is not a bad idea, but I see more solid feel with actual walls. I still do some skylights though if you notice. Choosing a light color is not easy either. Light pink or red won't work, while light blue isn't too nice (too sad to me). The new light turquoise serves just right: bright, refreshing, sophisticated. I think I am good with this color scheme. Thanks again!
  2. Thanks! I will take your first line as a compliment! :) Thanks!
  3. Hi everyone, just a few days before 2017 arrives and I managed to get this building done! As the economy of V City (my LEGO world) is going strong, the old Grand Emporium needs an upgrade too. Unlike many people who would buy more of the set and stack the stories up, I took a different approach from an architect's point of view. I got the inspiration from the book shelf of mine, and thought what if I added more books to the shelf? I would push the books aside and insert the new ones. And I got the idea for the new annex of the department store. The new building is just like new blocks inserted into the old one, and the expansion is not merely an increase of volume or floor area, but also a re-establishment of the icon. The new shop becomes a new landmark in the city (again). The design is clearly an insertion, but not invasion of the old. The new wing has a larger entrance, while the old revolving door is still kept. Let's start with the G/F. This floor is the supermarket, with one side having a double-volume space. You can also see that I kept some iconic features from the old emporium, namely the gift deco and escalators. All these link to the old memories... There is also a little information counter, if you are lost or if you have lost something. Going up to 1/F is the kitchenware section, and you can find the fashion section next to it. Wait, is that...Scarlet Witch? Further up is the 2/F kid section, with a fully stocked LEGO shelf! You can also find other toys here. The other side of the kid section is a book section. Mums can play with their kids too there. Snack corner is near the escalator, while you can find the restroom too. The roof originally was not used for anything (or a rest area for the window cleaners?), but after the renovation, you can enjoy a drink at the sky bar. Sometimes you can find the Avengers too. The model is also "slice-able", as you can open it up to reveal all the different sections inside. So the new Grand Mall is in business, and you can start getting some new things for the new year. Enjoy!
  4. Yes, I think so! That's the intent but do you think it will work in reality? :P Thanks for all the compliments!
  5. Thanks! The color scheme is a little tricky for the engine part, as I don't want to do the typical red or green scheme. I want to make it more metallic and "robust", while having a little Christmas deco. I am happy to see the current result. Definitely! I will tell the post office to do something, haha!
  6. Hi everyone! A little while since I completed and posted my creations. Winter is here, and Christmas is coming, and I think it is time to do something for my winter village. Here is my first try on making a train MOC, and it is an interesting building journey. I have looked at different beautiful locomotive engines online and created my version with a little seasonal deco. I don't want this to be a funny, cartoon Christmas tree, but a formal and decent express train going between the city and the winter village. The engine is the part that took me most time to create. I had the basic form in my head, but the mechanism and details actually required quite some understanding of the actual old locomotives. Luckily, the green Emerald Train gave me much hint and so I ended up with this: I added some interesting details to the front bumper part, using the claw pieces. I also tried a "tilted bottle" arrangement for the chimney part. The engine probably runs on diesel as there is no coal section. The wagon car follows the engine, and that is how you get your presents at the winter village! Freshly delivered from the city center! The passenger car is a simple one with all you need: doors and windows, and a streamlined profile. It looks like it has warm air supply already for your long journey through the winter: The last car is a mail car. Of course, you need to deliver a lot of parcels and Christmas cards to the villagers from the city. So, have we arrived yet? Yes, this is it! Hope you guys like it! :D Have a merry Christmas! ;)
  7. Thanks :D For the Display logo, do you mean how I printed the graphics? Or the way to build that shape? I pasted the print of Disney logo done in Photoshop onto the brick, that is. Just white photo paper (and a little good craftsmanship) will be good. :)
  8. Thanks everyone! Glad that you all enjoy it! Good ideas! Perhaps that will be done in the Disney Store Expansion project! Indeed, it is a pretty clean modern design, which I would like to be a little different from normal type of shops / Disney Stores :) thanks!
  9. The first shop along the main street of V City is a small one with a big name. The new Disney Store offers different products of its several franchises, including PIXAR and Star Wars. The client (of course I am making this up) wants a small modern building, but contains some essence of its brand. Undoubtedly the castle becomes the starting point for my design brainstorming session. My initial idea is a little box with a castle, and I began to break down the important elements from the castle to form the design language. I converted the moat into the planters by the sides of the entrance, and created a frame to signify a portal to the magical worlds. That can be seen from some castles where you will have a big portal at the bridge across the moat. The facade profile of the building comes from the two side towers above, and I only extracted the cut-corner shape. This slightly chamfered entrance also helps the portal stand out better. The building interior is simple, and is divided into several themes. First it is the Star Wars zone, where guests can find a lot of Star Wars toy and apparels. You can also design your own lightsaber at the “Build Your Own Lightsaber” shelf, and I made reference from the existing shops in Disneyland. Another side is the traditional Disney products, from traditional Disney stories. You can find girl items and dolls (you may ask about teddy bear, and yes Disney has one called Duffy and Shelliemay!), and also some cups and bottles. The deco is simple with wood planks, with the famous clock of Cinderella. Up the stairs will be 1/F, where you are greeted by the Toy Story shelf and the Lightyear figure. You can try the 3-eye Alien headpiece! Turning around is the much anticipated Frozen shelf, with all the icy items you can purchase! See that girl who is in love with the Snowgie cushions? You can also meet Elsa, Anna and Olaf and take pictures with them! Then you will see the little food corner, facing the staircase to the roof top. I spent quite some time to work out the fixtures, and I am happy that they look very much like the real thing inside Disneyland. The roof is a little green playground for kids, and you can meet the two iconic characters of Disney, Mickey and Minnie! Kids are queuing up to take great pictures with them, and later you will see even more other characters around the year. While I can design a simple hinged door on the rooftop, I created this version so that the panel can be folded up once more to avoid visual intrusion (if it is one big panel, it will stand up and be seen behind the tower on the front elevation! Not good!) Of course, I need a photo with my wife, Mickey and Minnie! Let's have a group photo, all the Disney characters with the shop! (okay, Buzz forgot to come out as he is still inside on the 1/F!) Hope you all enjoy it!
  10. This is insanely detailed, functional and elegant! I am amazed by how much it resembles the real life thing! If this is a set, I will buy this definitely even that I am not a Technic guy!
  11. Thank you very much! :D
  12. Hi everyone, today here I am to show you my version of the Batpod. When 5004590 was released, everyone was thrilled and tried to replicate one on their own with their parts. However, 5004590 looks just strange when you compare it to the real one. I bought the book The Dark Knight Manual to understand the design more, and research on the Internet for a month, and finally I built a version that I think is closer to the real Batpod. The original Batpod is an escape pod from Batman's Tumbler, and the mechanism is based on the S-shaped axis. Each of the two wheels are connected to the body by one-sided arm only. 5004590 set does not do this while mine follows that design. The shape of the Batpod is also in a reverse V-shaped manner, without any horizontal element. The LEGO set did not do that at all, and my version tries to follow that original profile, with rear part elongated as well to match the proportion. Front view, which shows the asymmetrical design of the wheel axis. The front view has mounted 3 pairs of weapons, with headlights on the sides too. Middle part, which retains some of the details of the original 5004590 set. I like this part the most, which keeps the original design of the Batpod: mudguard between the two pedals. I tried to add some wiring to mimic the original, but it looks too busy and so I ditch it in the end. The whole exercise was started as an MOD, but with my design goals to rebuild the form in the most realistic way, I redid the entire chassis in the end. Looks like an MOC at last! Anyway, there is one technical issue that prevents the front wheel guns from holding permanently, but as a display model, this is perfect already. Thanks for watching!
  13. Thanks!!! Hope LEGO can do something similar in the near future!
  14. Hi momoe, so sorry for being late to reply you. The leg breakdown is here, also for anyone who is intrigued: And the sloped part of the bottom part is the "palm" of the foot, which it steps onto the ground: To save the length, I saved that calf part and integrated it to the foot below. The thigh is then extended towards the back to "grow bigger" visually. Hope that helps!
  15. Thanks everyone for the support and love! It is amazing to see people being inspired by my work, whether they are interested in (modern) architecture or not. Thanks! Much of my inspiration comes from the modern houses done in Japan and Europe, and online sources like ArchDaily and Dezeen are good. For the black box and the garage underneath, it is more like an experiment during my design process. I recessed walls and spaces to re-create other spaces for different functions. Thanks, that is exactly what the model is trying to say!
  16. I am thrilled to know that my entry to the Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong 2015 LEGO Competition was shortlisted! This year, the topic is "Ideal Home (Interior Design)" (weird title with the confusing brackets, I know!), and since I like building houses, I thought I might give it a try this year. The show ended two days ago and while my submission did not get into the top three, I still got 4th in the judge scoring and I am already happy to be on the stage this year with the other awesome builders! My build is called "S Villa" (previously named Box iN during submission), which is my dream home in the brick city. The design is based on the concept of a garden. To me, home should be a place separated from the hustle and bustle of the city. Instead of being trapped inside another building, the occupants probably want to have their own personal outdoor space, meaning a garden. Therefore, the concept is a central garden with rooms arranged around it. Above is the program of the house, with different rooms arranged around the garden. Here is the final look of it, showing its front facade: The center garden is here, with some pebbles forming a loop path: The arrangement of rooms start from the living room, which is directly facing the garden. It is first place I enter when I arrive home, and I want this to be a relaxing place without TV to distract me. Further in is the kitchen and dining area, the latter which extends out to share the same garden view: The opposite side of dining room is the corridor leading to guest toilets and back door, where you can reach the garage. The staircase forms right above the main entrance, and I refuse to use a stacking type of staircase so that the staircase is like a room itself, creating a middle platform as a buffer to the upper private rooms. The black box, which is my studio, is located at the first stop of the staircase. Inside there are my desk and personal theater. Now this is the place I enjoy TV shows and movies. Going further up is the bedroom and lavatory. If you see closely, you will see I put the rooms that require quiet space, ie dining room and bedroom, away from the street, using the staircase circulation as the buffer separation to kill any noise from outside. The bedroom is a simple one, with an extended balcony next to it. My concept of monochrome design comes from the idea that a building can be simple and neutral-colored so that people focus on its form and shapes. All the colors then come from the inside, where people live, because life is colorful. Without us, there can be no color. We, are the colors. The space underneath the black box is recessed in as a garage. I also made a little extention behind it to put the tools for the garage. S Villa is the house for me and my wife, and the name contains the first letters of our names. Originally it was named "Box iN" during the submission since the idea is about the inner garden. With this design, I hope to inspire people that a house can be simple in geometry, and also functional in use. Hope you enjoy this building and its architectural concepts! More photos at:
  17. Thank you Legoagentboy123!
  18. Thanks! :D Pink? You mean the olive green? ;)
  19. Thanks everyone for the like! :) Sorry I don't have a part list, but if you want, I can a little breakdown for you to see how it is done. Let me know. I will definitely do a diorama, gimme some time ;) Indeed, it is huge! But when the Green Goblin is fully mutated, the scale is just good! And here I show you the details of it!
  20. So I managed to complete Rhino (Aleksei Sytsevich) based on the version from the film Amazing Spider-Man 2. I am not really a mech guy, and so it is my first time doing a exo-suit. I took quite some images as references, and with them I created this model. It is supposed to be a big armor standing upright, but also leans down a little bit to resemble a rhinoceros when it is running and charging at targets. "You want me to come down so that you can kill me?" "Yeah!" "Okay Ill be right there." I insisted to make the thighs bigger than the calves, but the existing parts are not in good sizes until I discovered using them in 45 degrees. It looks much better in this way. Now it is in running mode: Probably better to run first to buy time! Rhino is heavily armed but that means he is also slow... Armed with two machine guns, the Rhino also has missile launchers on the shoulder. For left shoulder, I follow the original and put a shield-like plate there. Aleksei Sytsevich can sit inside comfortably...until Spider-Man defeats him! The head is probably an interesting use of part as I found no other piece / build that suits my intended design. The back is also a tricky part, because while it needs a lot of details, it also serves as a spine that hold the structure tight and stable. I also managed to follow the original design and put two "fins" at its "butt" location. Now, with Rhino, my Sinister Six team is complete. I also made my own Vulture and Green Goblin designs. Hope you all enjoy this and now I have to run and hide until Spider-Man defeats them all! Thanks for watching!
  21. Thanks! And yes, the top can be opened for putting the raptors in. It is not really attached to the box by any stud, but instead holds its place by the edges. It works all fine. :)
  22. Oh story, haha, sorry. I thought about having two stories too, but then the overall look will be a little too tall and weaken the proportion of the design. So I adopt the two-floor option :D
  23. Thanks everyone! :D Let me do a support jeep for this truck! ;)
