  1. I think there's a lot of truth there - the sets were just so poor in quality that a situation where designers were told to cobble together sets from surplus parts might well be the case. If so, it's a terrifying insight into how bad things got at lego.
  2. Think back to those sets released pre 2005 / episode 3. What did those sets have in common? For a start, they were blocky and inaccurate - but that's not the point of this thread. The sets were a mix of random colours. But why? The TIE Bomber should have been blue, Lego made it everything from grey to brown. The original AT AT has a yellow interior. While we're talking about TIE's let's not forget the baffling blue and black TIE Fighter. I'm sure you've got your own personal 'favs' rainbow craft. I've always theorised the inaccurate elements were deliberate (rather than incompetence, although that said...) being an attempt to make sets look like you could build them from spare lego 'look what you can achieve'. What's your way of rationalising these designs?
  3. I'll buy it - but it's going to be a dull build. Several hours making a flat panel...and then you get to do it all over again! This should have been the TIE bomber, could have included some action features quite easily in that.
  4. Wow. I thought it would be big...but in person it's breath taking. No idea where I'll store it!
  5. The Winter Soldier figure is the icing on the cake - as he comes free with the purchase I'm including him as part of the set. Features arm printing and even side leg printing, very nice!
  6. I lost track - are we expecting more Rebels sets this year (not including the cruiser)? Feeling like it's going to be a cheap summer.
  7. The shuttle just keeps getting better and looks to have a good interior too. Lego have knocked this one out of the park and surely bought some respite from moans about 'reissues'
  8. The 'top hatch' is now a widely recognised as a feature, however that came to be, it's not a lego 'mistake' (even if it may contradict a source). I think the release date is odd - set has been over shadowed by Toy Fair. A release later (or earlier) would have been a better idea.
  9. Do we have a better picture of Starfire - not sure if we are getting arm printing
  10. Factoring all these new sets (AoU, Ant Man etc), we've done very well. Some obvious duds but every set has atleast something and, focussing as I do on the figures, we've got some classics - Carnage is better than we could have ever hoped for
  11. The imperial shuttle is glorious. I have the UCS, but this thing is almost as good. Desperate to see the interior - it can clearly fit a crate, but what else...
  12. Why do we get stickers in £170 sets? At what price point would lego say 'guys, we can afford the extra £1 to print some of this ourselves' This won't be the jewel of my collection - but it's good enough to gain entry for its visual impact and I do like the new figure
  13. Have no fear, crusader! Lego heard your concerns and you'll get a special version of the set where Black Widow's gun has been swapped out for the printed diploma brick from the Collectible minifig series. Bonus points for becoming enraged about the printing of a lego brick while seeing no issue with this being a set based on a paramilitary group who murder people without trial, using weaponry designed by an alcoholic who paid for this with money he diverted (stole) from US government contracts with Stark Industries.
  14. Damn. The final duel looked really good in the box art pics...but seeing the actual set, all that enthusiasm has evaporated. I can't justify $70/£70 for that. I'm continually annoyed we don't get some more love shown by lego to the royal guards. How about some good printing and more accurate robes? The judge robes from the CMF might be a start.
  15. Love it, great display piece and some fun to be had with the interior and play features. Odd that lego didn't add in 4 additional bricks to get it to 3000... Would have liked to see all the figures have leg printing, lego are being cheap there and it's cheeky for them to reissue the figures later with the Ultron sets. That said, they are a 'bonus' so... ...and if you can't afford the set you don't need to tell us that, or condemn the set out of jealousy... Er...you are aware that Slave 1 and the Executor were EXACTLY that sort of half way house between kid and adult you just had a go at?! Did we forget the Executor's interior? Slave 1's pop out guns?
  16. Well put. Those that had seen the set on display grossly exaggerated what they saw. I was expecting an Arkham level of build quality and 'maturity', it doesn't look like we got that.
  17. The shuttle is sensational - it looks like a UCS set! Naboo star fighter is laughably bad, but wasn't getting another of those anyway. Duel looks great - I'd just love to see some redesigned royal guards as the last lot had some fairly bland printing
  18. I'll sound like an old crank... ...but can't we have new sets, sets we haven't seen before? I'm not opposed to 'remakes' (despite the recent quality dip) but when you have 3 versions of the imperial shuttle already...
  19. Ah, the argument of the lazy: if something is marketed at kids it's 'okay' for it to be rubbish. No. A show should always be the best the cast and crew can deliver for obvious reasons - least if all because the viewer pays the same for the product. There's never an excuse for rubbish work; if the writers and director don't care they can find a thousand others who will bleed for the project. Get it right or expect to be criticised.
  20. I have literally no where to put a giant hellicarrier - and we'll worry about that once I have that bad boy built! This could be a wonderful display set - don't screw this up lego!
  21. Great set but am I the only one a little miffed that in a £170 set one figure doesn't even have backprinting? Lego never ceases to confound.
  22. Really enjoying my these new sets (all available in the UK). Surprising amount of new moulds and those villains are superb. Lego has really tried hard with these sets and you can tell some of the other lines don't get as much commitment.
  23. Everything! Lego shop in Milton Keynes (uk) had scores and scores queuing - sets were totally sold out, replaced and then sold out again! Saw this happen about 3 times in an hour! Lego has gone stratospheric this year, never seen such demand! Lots of decent sale items - all gone now though, but they were there for early birds
  24. I'd take that last 'update' with an amount of salt sufficient to drain a city in Utah... If we don't get another UCS Falcon it won't be due to sale price - remember Lego already sold this set and it was a success. If Lego thought for a second they could alienate buyers with absurd costs they wouldn't have charged £350 for the SSD, possibly the most unfairly priced set Lego has ever released! Lego have seen sales rise as their prices have, they aren't worried about affordability. We'll get a UCS Episode 7 Falcon - I don't need contacts to know that. Maybe not this year but next, it's the obvious 2016 UCS.
