  1. Very nice work - Tons of views but no comments? This is a very smart design and detailed build, I wish you all the best in this years compo :)
  2. That's more like it Lego. Hopefully it's easy to mod for Power functions. Will be back to buying the WV again this year, though i still can't shake the feeling that they are short on ideas - this is still a revisit of the original holiday train. There are still so many other buildings ripe for WV design.
  3. I've been and admired many times but never left a thanks. It really is one of the best builds I've ever seen. I just managed to get all the parts for the alien - god only knows how many more hours it would take to create a scene such as yours. I tip my hat..
  4. Supported ! Good luck with the design - I will happily pay for the plans from Rebrickable should it fail (not that it will )
  5. Buying that book! Thanks for the great mag and heads up!
  6. Excellent winning entry - loved the theme and the fact it would not look out of place with the official sets! Well deserved.
  7. Really like this one. Very much in keeping with the official sets (always really important in my opinion!) Great use of colour and the angled building as in Santa's Workshop. Best of luck in the compo
  8. Neat idea - Love the curtains & detail at the top of the columns. Good Luck in the compo!
  9. Will be at BV but the whole winter village is staying at home this time. Am going with a different theme this time... Just got to get building.... PS thanks for the comment, the windmill was the one i felt best suited to the contest this year, but I wish i'd gone with the Tavern now.. The windmill has little interior detail as the tower holds the gearbox, while the barn holds the battery pack. Nevermind...
  10. Back again for another bash at this wonderful competition! This year I'm very happy to offer the "Lions Head Mill" to my Winter Village collection, and yes the sails are motorized! The WV Baker needs more flour than ever at this time of year, and Old Man Johansson and his son Sven are more than happy to keep the town in scrummy treats. Sven, however is easily distracted by Hayley the Librarian... When they aren't turning the sails they are often found turning the stones on the local Curling Rink, which they happily share with all the locals. The set comes in at just under 1200 pieces (mostly 1x1 plates, square & round that make up the lower part of the building) and it's footprint is akin to the WV Cottage. Thanks again for running this competition, it really is a holiday tradition now Merry Christmas everyone!
  11. What a brilliant and unique idea, and the execution is fantastic too... Coz i'm the Garbageman..
  12. The Largest set to date was the Cottage and the piece count was 1454 - I would suggest 1500 be the limit you work towards. Anything too much larger, surely just negates the criteria altogether?
  13. I know this isn't the solution now, but did you consider building it in Black & Light Bley? I think it would look quite smart in these colours too and probably a hell of a lot cheaper!.
  14. Old thread I know, but with the Ferris Wheel I guess afew people are looking at the Grand Carousel enviously and becoming disheartened by the price tag. It's never going to be cheap but it can be done. I can vouch that using broadcloth and A PVA style water based glue (I used mod podge matte) works brilliantly. I bought a specific hole punch for the job, and the canopy's look, and feel, great. Just like Lego Sails! I changed a few colours, made some superficial design improvements and built a mirrored style centre spindle to avoid using stickers. The upside is that my Carousel has a two tone canopy (White and Gold) thanks to the broadcloth. The only part i decided against buying was the ridiculous soundbrick. I just bought a 2 minute greeting card recorder, found some pipe/barrel organ music online and built a pipe organ around the speaker. Simples.. The total Bricklink cost inc shipping was somewhere between $800 & $900 Australian. I will post a pic once I get all the parts assembled.
  15. Unbelievably I too had been working on making a true 70's/80's Modular Arcade. The Sega Arcade machines in another thread kind of made me want to get these up too. The artwork was very difficult to find in some cases (I actually had to almost start from scratch with Op Wolf!). Anyway here they are as of today. GAUNTLET & OPERATION WOLF MISSILE COMMAND & PAC-MAN GALAXIANS & GALAGA SPACE INVADERS & DONKEY KONG (Space Invader machine looks much better than the photo - the stickers are shiny and just caught the light poorly - I'll try again later when I have more time!) POLE POSITION I am working currently on the Star Wars arcade machine (Booth) & Sub Hunter. Probably the last two before I start the building itself. Please excuse the poor photo's the machines are quite tiny and my camera is not much chop with macro images. Cheers for looking - p.s. I love the Sega Machines too - though they were after my time
  16. Wow - interesting reading 3 years on. Now everything has changed and lego think nothing of re working older UCS sets, I wonder if some of the more "precious" collectors who originally posted are still buying lego, or as their posts suggest have given up on TLG for the lack of "love" that they have been shown. Roll on a re-worked Y Wing please!
  17. That's awesome mate - I'm always in awe of RC builds, and the front end, you're right to be very proud it looks fantastic!
  18. 14 is great... but not sure how it fits the same size & part number of existing Winter Village sets criteria of the comp, so I can't really vote for it. 22. Emma - 2 13. parsom -1 11. jaredchan -1 10. 6kyubi6 - 1
  19. Yeah it is the hat - sorry forgot about that - just wanted the "mutton chop" look without the beard. I have updated the photo's with a full hat & beard piece.
  20. "Bah humbug!". Ebeneezer left the Lego Movie, realizing what a terrible mistake he had made when he decided on a life of accountancy. "The real money is in coffee", he mumbled as he trudged home through the snow banks, his misery mounting, "Banks without money - humbug.." As he reached his destination he paused outside his cold and lonely office, "I'll have to do something about this..." With a new found enthusiasm Ebeneezer set about creating a lovely little coffee & book shop, "Books & Blends". He soon found he had stumbled upon a goldmine, people just loved his coffee and dusty old almanacs. He even allowed Charlie, the local chestnut seller to set up outside his store. Ebeneezer didn't even ask for a percentage of Charlie's takings! Everyone agreed his cosy, little cafe was just the place to warm up on a winters day. Ebeneezer though, peering down from his balcony study, still liked to keep en eye on the business, Old habits were hard to lose, but he was happy. The books sold well, but the real money was in the COFFEE!! Ebeneezer's Books & Blends became so popular he never looked back on his miserable past. His staff loved the kindly man, who, in-turn, paid them well and valued their help. Everything indeed, with a little help from Lego, was "awesome" for Ebeneezer Scrooge. Merry Christmas! I hope you like the entry - as always I try to keep my builds as close in size and parts to the official Lego sets. There is also a Light Brick in there but it's hard to see (it's underneath Ebeneezers study). All the best to my fellow Lego builders for the competition & festive season - see some of you at Brickvention I hope in Melbourne 2015.
  21. Excellent work on a vastly under-rated lego theme - love Galaxy Squad. So much to like here - how about a base design?
  22. I have literally hundreds of cracked 1x1 slopes - i use them for Winter Village mocs, I am always buying replacements - one day i intend to send them all back to lego and want to find out why a premium product is so prone to breakage without miss-use occurring. I suggest everyone else in similar positions do the same - it's the only way anything will be done about this.
  23. Brilliant - Would buy this in a heartbeat!
  24. Completely brilliant. The detail leaves me speechless. I cannot wait to see the final full build! Ahh whats wrong? Did you lose a war or something? Btw You might want to check out the Battle of Isandlwana. Us Brits got totally pasted on that occasion!
