MEC Category A: 'The Watcher in the Water'
Disco86 replied to Bugbot2008's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The watcher in the water is looking magnificent, great usage of the Chima parts ! Especially cool, that the beast is so playable. The glowing parts at the door are Details that make this somethng really Special. Good luck ! -
Great take on the Scene, you have captured all necessary Details in one set. And it is looking like a real set, because of the base plates and the building style. The two new figures Bilbo and Rosie with some cool minfigure accesores like Food make this set a must-have. Good luck !

You got some neat details in here. My favorite part is the furniture, especially that chair is looking really comfortable. The vibe of the whole build is Relaxing, so I definitly like it. Good luck !

That is a really believable set and also your presentation makes it look even more realistic. You captured the original style and added some neat play Features. The only Thing that I dislike about it is, that we are getting no figures we really Need. Evenif if Frodo's Torso is looking pretty good. Good luck !

MEC Categroy B: White Tree of Gondor
-
This is my entry to the "The Age of Men" catgory. I always wanted to build the white tree, and as it is a great metaphor for Gondor growing to old strength again, I have chossen this for the category. When Aragorn became king after the war, he planted a sapling of the white tree on the court of the fountain. The years gone by and as Aragorn's children were growing, the tree also rised up to the sky, to show that Gondor was wealthy and strong again. Thanks for hosting this great contest, I love everything from Middleearth. And good luck to the other contestants !

Thanks for the great feedback, I think I am really putting this on Ideas after the contest is over. Maybe I am going to build another set until the deadline. That was one of the instructions lying on my table for inspiration, well guessed ! No, I am always building things directly with bricks, because you dont get the same feeling of whats possible, when planning digital. As said before, the city in the movie is completly grey. But maybe some olive green moss parts would look great. I am adding some colour, if I am doing a second set for the contest. I cut out the set picture from the Mines of Moria, deleted the figures down left and some parts of the top with magic. Then I was looking for a monochrome background picture of ruins, and added my own cut out model on top. Actually it was really tricky and it took over 6 hours. If all you could say about this, that you could make it better, why not making your own set for the competition ?

Wow that is a great feddback. Seems like my idea of a mega battlepack was the right decision, whild chossing Osgiliath was obvious You are right about the number if figures, TLG would add less or just bald orcs. But there are also some sets in the waves that got a lot of figures for army building, like the Mikrwood army set. And I wanted to make the set, like I would love to buy it. That is also the reason why I did not use much color. I first thought about dark tan base plates, but that would not be movie accurate. I already added blue water, torches and senseless play features that are not according to the movie, so for me it was enough. If you watch the movie, everything in that city is just grey. I am sad too... no Gondor soldiers After the enormous feedback here, I am actually thinking about it. Totally agree that the orcs may wear armor. But adding the Witch King was not really possible by just using non-custom parts, so I decided not to add him. Also this should be like a luxurious version of a battle pack, so I only put in reagular troops and the only main character could easily be switched to a reagular ranger by changing his head, to make it intersting for multiple buyers. Comparing this to 79014 Dol Guldur Battle we have nearly the same parts count, but there are two more minfigures in it. Also watching the official prices getting higher each year it seems to be just right in my opinion. Even if I actually would buy it just once for the full price and wait for discount to get multiples.

Thanks a ton for your enormous positive feedback on that one ! Never thought a vignette vould ever get that much attention. Sorry, i tried to do worse, but I failed Definitly a technique that I would recommend. It is sturdy and looks really organic. The part is really short in the book, so I added the dialogue from the movie. In my opinion the conversation is one of the best in the movie, even if there is one better diealogue, maybe I can build another entry to show that. Comparing me with the master of creepyness, thanks

MEC Category C: The dawn will take you all!
Disco86 replied to Dzoni90's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
You have packed some neat details in this one. I really like that you choose to brickbuilt your own horse and your own troll. I am just missing Gandalf in that one, looks like you don't have one ? -
The tree itself is well done here, the color scheme from the official set works really well to capture the dark of Mirkwood. You have added enough spider webs for detail and the most important detail: MUSHROOMS I think you could have possibly added your own spider and not the one from the set, to put more effort and your own style in it, but mushrooms still take the cake

Another scene that I thought about building. And then I have seen your take on it, and knew it wouldn't be better. The rockwork is awesome, and that's what this scene is mostly about. But you have also added the last light of Durins Day, so a perfect build for that scene.
-
Wanted to build this scene also, but then decided to build something else. And you captured the feeling of it. The contrast between the black tree and its colorful top with the butterflies gives it an sense of art !
-
You have captured the scene really well. Especially all those spears and the huge amount of skeletons makes this look like in the movie. I just don't think that your friendly blue background matches this scene

MEC Category C: Escaping Goblin Town
Disco86 replied to Graham Gidman's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
The two different scenes of the movie combined in one make your entry really special. The rockwork is natural and the technique to curve the bridge stands out. And of course I love mushrooms, so I like that entry ! -
I always love MOCs about the barrel scene, built one by myself and it was great fun. You made the water look rushed and the foliage adds a nice touch !
-
Really "cool" building technique for the snow And that SNOT rockwork is also well done. Would be a really good scene for the contest, if Bilbo wasn't missing.

This is my entry to the "Missing Set" category. Everbody wanted a third wave of LotR sets with some Gondor soldiers, so I choose Osgiliath so that we can get Gondor rangers and soldiers. Also having a Faramir minifig seems to be very important for me. The build is inspired by the techniques of the Dol Guldur sets. My aim was to make it look like ruins, while it is still sturdy, playable and matching the real sets. The figures and shields are made with photoshop. Setname: 79021 Battle of Osgiliath Parts: 718 Minfigs: 8 Price: 89,99 $ / 99,99 € The set is now available at Lego Ideas, I would be really happy if you support me, thanks ! Thanks for hosting this great contest, I love everything from Middleearth. And good luck to the other contestants !

Very keen idea to build the whole Smaug on 16x16 and you have made good work. The dragon is detailed, as is the treasure. And especially Bilbo's face fits really good.

Cool set. I really like your parts choice for the minifigs, used the same for my version of Faramir and this Gothmog is also clever and recognizable. That exploding wall feature is really somethin special.
-
Well Simon, that's how things are going somedays. Have a nice time and then you come back as an AFOL having his pockets full of money ! Btw I always thought, that Switzerland has no army ? Maybe I was wrong... that destroys my secret plans for world domination

MEC Category A: Battle of Osgiliath MEC Category C: Entering Mirkwood
-
This my entry to the "There and back again" category. The build itself is actually pretty sturdy, even if it does not look like it is. Using a lot of dark brown robotic arms to fix the foliage, makes them connect so strong you can actually shake the whole vignette, wihtout loosing any parts. I have placed black bricks in the background to create this creepy feeling. The scene shows the chapter when the party reached Mirkwood and Gandalf is telling Bilbo, that he has to leave. Bilbo and the dwarves have to face the menaces of Mirkwood on their own. Even if it is also in the book, I prefered to add the dialoque from the movie, because I really like it. You've changed Bilbo Baggins. You are not the same Hobbit as the one who left the Shire. I was going to tell you ... I ... found something in the Goblin tunnels... Found what ? What did you find ? ... [hesitating] ... My courage ! Good. Well that's good. You'll need it. Thanks for hosting this great contest, I love everything from Middleearth. And good luck to the other contestants !

Unfortunately we lost again... And there is not even a reason to blame the judges for that The builds from Fjotten and NinjaNin have just been the best in this episode, and there is nothing to complain about it. Congrats rebel scum !
