  1. A very insightful, great review Whitefang, thank you! I'm not too impressed with the series as a whole, although there are some great little individuals. The Constable, Yeti and Scarecrow are a few real standouts, yet in contrast, there are a considerable amount of mediocre minifigures. My biggest disappointment is the Islander/Tiki Warrior's face, really bad and a somewhat letdown. Ultimately, a somewhat all-right series with a positively sizeable amount of nice parts (as always) but yet again, a horrible minifigure-distribution-within-box ratio.
  2. They certainly look considerably better in real life, I mean, look at the Constable, *swoon* The Blacktron Mech is really growing upon me, and the Scarecrow has quaint quality to it which I quite like. The series as a whole really improves in its non-render form. The Grandma is still a disaster zone, aside from her cat, though.
  3. Aside from the Tiki Warrior, Bobby and Yeti, I'm really finding this series to be a somewhat large letdown. The amount of rehashes, garish, overly cartoonish faces and simply unattractive minifigures in general is saddening. That said, there are some very appealing pieces, as always, amongst the rough.
  4. Well this clears a few things up! The Riddler's bonus expression is a really great addition, I'm really quite happy with the bowler hat, and the gold crowbar, or Question-mark cane, is commendable in it's utilisation. The letdown is his rag-tag jumpsuit, it looks absolutely filthy - I much prefer the Funhouse costume. They should have had it covered entirely with the jumbled question-marks, instead of the half-and-half with the dark green split. Ideally, like this: The Flash, on the other hand, isn't particularly growing on me. His head is, of course, a prototype, so I dearly hope for an alternate face in the final version. His helmet is way too bulbous and just looks a bit silly. It's not bad though, and it sort of has it's own odd, little charm. I hope that with the final release Lego has bought Flash a pair of yellow boots, because he needs some foot ware. One downer, for picky me, is that it appears that his helmet's little lightning bolts aren't removable. Finally, vintage Bat-logo Batman may be a little bit on the prototype side, as if one looks closely, his utility belt is a little iffy (or maybe they went for a stealthy simple look). The vehicles are not at all terrible, even the Riddler's dragster is growing on me. I like how it has two sacks of cash on the back, nice little detail:
  5. Yet Lego allows the European Amazons to ship, without incursions, to Australia (of which I am eternally grateful for), but chooses to keep a double standard for shipping of its products from its golden child's respective Amazon (Amazon.us). I don't particularly see much logic in that. If buying a Lego set from a US retailer - of which has already been shipped to the retailer in the US from a foreign factory - and then subsequently shipping it from the USA, across the world, and to your front door is still cheaper than going out to the local shop and buying the same set, then I highly doubt that Lego's global shipping costs of getting the set to Australia are accurately communicated through their pricing.
  6. I had my fingers crossed that the masquerade Islander would have a somewhat nice face under that behemoth mask, but the glimpses of those tribal tattoos around his eyes means my hopes are basically dashed. He's probably one of my favourites.
  7. My largest issue is not that Lego is subsidising the US by effectively ripping off the rest of the world, it is that the company chooses, on a stupid whim, to restrict the international shipping of its products from sites like Amazon.us and other American retailers to non-US countries. It's plain silly and I subsequently have lost a certain amount of respect for Lego's global business operations.
  8. I shall conform, here are my opinions in a convenient list: Barbarian Quite meh, only meagre perk is the swords. Atrocious face. Scarecrow Really quite nice, lovely hat. Bavarian Girl Nice torso and skirt. Atrocious face. Blacktron Not a standout. Although I have a use for him. Tiki Warrior Finally, an Islander. Real standout, I'm incredibly happy that Lego had the good grace to include the traditional hairdo as well as that ugly behemoth of a mask. Gingerbread Man Doesn't whet my appetite. Holiday Elf Nice torso, hat and politically correct brown teddy-bear. Yo. Atrocious face. Yeti A cute little individual, nice popsicle. Mountain Climber I passed out from altitude-sickness or possibly boredom. Welder Mask is great, as is the equipment. Scientist Her two flasks must contain sleeping potion, because she consists of incredibly overused parts and is subsequently tedious enough for me to have a nap. Jazz Musician Excellent, especially for my 1920s gangster-like people. Torso is commendable too. Atrocious face. Waitress Awful, almost vomit inducing. Atrocious face. Grandma Awful figure, terrible face. Nice cat and hairpiece though. Bobby Police Constable One of my favourites. Nice torso, lovely helmet. Odd truncheon. Fembot Despite being a rehash, she does have gauge/dial breasts. This instalment isn't the best, it has some notable rehashes and some of the worst minifigure faces in a series on record, yet there are a select few strong characters amongst the increasingly cartoonish crowd.
  9. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2839/9317374078_eb40e50138_o.jpg This set is really quite an odd one. The vehicles are as bland as bat-guano, specifically the Riddler's drag racer. That said, the minifigures are incredibly compelling, yet even they, the redeeming feature of the set, are in some ways, a little half-baked. The Riddler has a nice, unique jumpsuit, a lovely green bowler, but retains the same face and lacks a true staff. There was generous room for Lego to really expand upon the figure, and it appears they utilised half of his available potential. I wouldn't complain overly though, he's one of my favourite Batman villains, and it's really always nice to have an alternate version of him + a somewhat accurate and certainly resourceful cane. Flash is a huge draw, the set's biggest asset for most. My two qualms are that his helmet is a bit on the bulbous side and that he has a severe lack of yellow boots. Otherwise, quite nice. Batman is an unexpected draw as well, for me at least. Being a massive Golden Age Batman fan, the black, vintage Bat-logo on his chest is incredibly refreshing and compelling. I'll probably bite the bullet and splurge on this one, whatever the ridiculous Australian price will be (cease your price-related crying, American people) as I really love the minifigures, despite their minor oddities.
  10. My eyespheres are satisfied. The vehicles are the embodiment of mediocre, but the minifigures very much redeem this set. Obviously the biggest draw is Flash, I really like Lego's approach to him, and I seriously hope that the little lightning bolts on his helmet are removable. The Riddler looks quite appealing too, it'll be nice to get my paws on that green bowler + he appears to be sporting a very well detailed jumpsuit. Another possible bonus, if the set's Batman minifigure has the same Bat-logo printing as on the repellent Bat-vehicle, I'll be incredibly happy, as it's quite close to that of the 1940s version. The only qualm I have over this set is the apparent lack of a Riddler staff. Ultimately, I shall be definitely getting a copy of this set. Thanks for sharing photos!
  11. That is an abomination if ever I've seen one. As I have no fondness for Back to the Future, I'll definitely have no notion of touching this. The minifigures are quite nice though, I'll give it that.
  12. That is one really exceptional ship! I really love the contours of it.
  13. I would quite like a Hugo Strange, Mad Hatter or Tweedledee & Tweedledum. That'd be nice.
  14. I'm not particularly unhappy, the black-suited Superman is somewhat insipid, as is Spiderman, I care not for Spiderwoman and Arrow isn't a huge loss in my books. I found last year's installation of Comic Con figures, specifically Shazam and Bizzaro (sheds a little tear), far more compelling. Ultimately, I wish Lego would cease releasing these sought after characters to only a select few lucky ducks. Quite annoying really.
  15. Dat Carousel. I really like the look of those ornate horses, could prove to be quite useful for gypsy purposes. The set, as a whole, has a nice abundance of foodstuff, children and interesting/useful pieces. I'll probably have to purchase one of these, provided I can get it at a semi-acceptable price (US pricing hopefully). Carousel approves of the Carousel.
  16. Sehr gut, danke. Oh, me and my irony.
  17. I've always found the greys of Star Wars to be a bit dreary (sans the Special Edition 2004 Millennium Falcon) and the prices too high, but I might actually bite the bullet for this one. It's very nice. "Nooooo, stop looking at it," cries my wallet.
  18. Again, another great review. I'm liking some of this set, the Crown Knight's new face is quite nice (it's basically a yellow, single-sided version of Bofur's head) and the new horse barding + champron are really quite nice, although a less-garish silver one would be ideal. The actual building structure and the seige engine aren't great, but still have their uses (parts). Nice, but certainly not a must buy.
  19. Good, clear review, plus lovely photos yet again. I think this set to be a little lacklustre, I'll probably just get a solitary one for the horse and some of the pieces (padlock).
  20. Good job on the review + photography, it was nice to get a good close up on the Dragon faces/torsos, which has lead me to want them to an even greater extent. Your terms (gorget, cuirass) have been duly noted, and integrated into my vocabulary. The set itself is a great army builder, although it's a little bit of a disappointment that Lego couldn't get around to including actual coin pieces!
  21. Whilst the distribution is not that great for some figures, within my first three picks in a basically fresh box I pulled out two somewhat scarce Sea Captains. In most other respects, especially with the amount of quality army builders, I'm really enjoying Series 10.
  22. 7) Hippie Entry (Build by vecchiasignoraceppo) - One point 18) Bunny Suit Guy Entry (Build by genecyst) - One point 27) Bunny Suit Guy Entry (Build by Emma) - One point Good luck guys!
  23. Whilst I love Game of Thrones dearly, you're frankly wasting your time even considering for a single second that Lego would ever consider going near the whole franchise. As pointed out before, GoT has quite a bit of sex, incest, and violence, so do you really think it's suitable for Lego's target audience of 8-12 year olds? This topic is for discussing the somewhat mediocre new Castle sets, not dreaming about impossible Lego licenses.
  24. Being one who'll just buy the smaller sets, I feel that it's kind of a copout that Lego couldn't be bothered to use actual coin pieces, let alone chromed ones, like they do in the large expensive sets. The whole line basically is the rehashing and mashing of the past decade's worst Castle ideas compacted into a few lacklustre sets. There's still some interesting pieces in those smaller sets, though, but sorry Castle 2013, I think Orthanc is the real priority.
