I think I've made it clear that I want to help people roleplay, and see all aspects of their characters while showing off my characters. I love a good roleplay session. It helps me discover things about my NPCs, and helps players discover entirely new things about their PCs as well. You never know exactly how your character will react to something until they react to it.

Bal seems unconcerned that seven years of his life have passed him by. "Okay! Thank you for saving me, heroes! I hope that I get to return the favor soon. If there are more monsters in the valley, I'll be sure to cut them apart before they can lay a finger on you. I am a little confused by how I survived those seven years, but I'm sure the Gray Wizard will explain it. He's always explaining things." The party makes their way back to Triad, McColt, and the Gray Wizard. Triad is on her feet. Her face and voice are as unreadable as ever. "We are better. It is time for us to descend into the passage and enter the Eye. Mage, we will need our weapon back." Arthur hands back the weapon, and the party sets out through the dank passage, traveling in single or double file. The tunnel goes down a ways before evening out. It seems to stretch on forever. If the heroes wish to talk or prepare for whatever they meet in the Eye, now would be the time. There seems to be no lines between what is right and what is wrong. I've lived in a town and done my duty my whole life, and that's dictated my actions. I've made the logical choice for my men. The Angel swipes his light blade once across her chest. Normally the strong barbarian woman would be able to withstand the blow, but in her weakened state, she gasps and fumbles and takes a knee, barely conscious, unable to fight. A few seconds later, she topples over and sprawls out on the ground, bleeding. Haldor rushes forth to protect her, but the Angel is prepared, and blasts him backwards with a stream of light that exhausts the Nord. Sasha is the only member of the party able to damage the Angel. Sasha stands back, assessing how to best attack the foe. Tesni once more runs at the Angel, striking at it, but it parries and drives it's blade into her chest. Tesni's eyes go wide and she begins to slip backwards. She feels her heart stop beating, but before she slips into the jaws of death, Haldor is beside her, hand on her shoulder. He grabs the Angel viscously, yanks Tesni away from the blade, and mutters some words. Tesni feels life flow back into her as the light of the Angel flickers. It lurches backwards. OoC: Shouldn't my counter-strike be doubled because of my mead? Boomingham bites his lower lip. The first clash with the Orcs had gone... decently. He assessed the situation and began to one more roar off commands. "Bob, I want you to occupy Bumboo from the front row. Lorenzo, you may continue your attack." Boomingham lurches across the deck, parrying a few blows, until he arrives at Atramor's side. He raises the shield so that the two of them can talk in private. "Atramor, be a good chap and land a hit or two on those Heavily Armored Orcs. It is a dangerous mission, but if you can get some of your poison in their veins, we'll be much better off. I promise, if you go down, I'll personally get you back up." Boomingham whacks him on the back encouragingly a few times before turning back to his party. "Alright, now, about those of us who are injured. Ellaria, I don't want to risk you going down. Try a hand at healing yourself. Rufindel, I want you to take care of the Ogre. This will leave us with one untargetted enemy, I believe, so if everyone would be so kind as to leave the rat with no one to tango with, I'll take him on once more, but not before I deal with you, Blister." Hastened heroes take two free hits. This is why they are listed twice in the battle order. If they want to only take one free hit, they can be listed at different places in the battle order.

One of the proudest moments of Dastan, for me, was when the heroes rallied once the battle seemed to be won and went to go revive their fellow heroes so that they could all share in the EXP. gain. It was a beautiful player moment, AND a beautiful testimony to Heroica in the world of Heroica. The Hall truly leaves no one behind, no matter how much they fight with each other. Likewise, I actually DON'T think Clerics should be responsible for the Essences, but rather the other party members should. Clerics have to buy tonics to keep their party healed. They spend money and turns on others already, so other classes should bring Phoenix Essences... especially ones with high SP, as they are less likely to go down.

Tesni flies at the angel and nearly clips its shoulder before the angel shoots a bean of light that pierces her side. She stumbles away, clenching the hole in her hand as blood seeps forth. Blood from the blast splatters Arthur in the face and he fails, understandably, one more to read from his scroll. Alexis begins to murmur ancient words, but an Aura engulfs his head in light before she can finish and she cries out. As the Aura disappears, Alexis gropes blindly for a few seconds, her pupils and irises totally white, before crashing to the floor. Sasha whacks the Aura back with her ax, but the other one, who Arthur was meant to distract, encircles Haldor and then tosses him into the sheer rock face nearby. Haldor's teeth rattle as he too crashes to the floor, though he is able to (barely) raise himself. A QM's look on battle balance: Make your battles fast and furious. Seriously. High HP isn't necessary, that just makes the battle drag on, and unless it's for a specific reason, it doesn't excite the heroes. Eventually everyone continues to repeat their attacks. What's better is enemies with high attacks. Battles should CHANGE each round. Make it likely that your heroes will have to deal with a NEW negative thing each round. high HP makes people have to figure out how to heal - who can the heroes spare to heal, can they spare no one to do the healing, etc. Negative effects do that too - who can attack what creature, who can risk what negative effect, who has a negative effect that locks down options for them and forces the other players to supplement their assets to the team. THAT'S what makes them think. Your heroes and enemies should both be able to get whittled down fast, so that each round is something NEW. And if you want a look at an inventive battle, check out Jebs' quests. They almost ALWAYS run with normal mechanics, with an added twist. Passive specials are something he uses often (maybe even introduced) that I absolutely love and am trying to work into my quests. They add a fun twist of making the heroes prioritize what negative effects in the battle they want to get rid of first.

I also advise that you read over a few quests first. 6 and 41 are good examples, and short, and involve very interesting players. The game is easy to learn if you put in the time to learn it. You really HAVE TO read the opening post of this topic entirely, there is really no two-ways around it.

It comes down to a risk, Cameron. We have two options. We either trust this evidence that has, luckily and by total chance, been presented by you against someone who we are all likely to be suspect of, as they've been known to be slippery in the past (a strange trait for a sheep, I know). Alternatively, we could look at the evidence from the game. Brigit, a townie, told us she had something against Horace. She was killed. Next, we see yesterday a movement against Horace that is subverted by a sudden revelation from you, and that leads to the lynch of a villager. We then arrive today. Before we can pick up the case against Horace, miraculous evidence appears that indicates that Shawna MUST be scum... once again letting Horace walk free. We either get a scum, or we don't today. We're taking a plunge either way. Trust a case with multiple proven townies backing it, or trust a case made by one person today. I choose option #1. BAWK!

While I can't disagree with much of your analysis, Cameron, I think we can all agree that it's time for Horace Horse to go. He's long over stayed his welcome. It was him or Maurice yesterday, and you got us to change our vote to Maurice, but that was wrong, so, forgive me if we don't follow you in not voting for him AGAIN for a second day. I think Seamus said it best. It's time that Horace went down. BAWK!
