  1. I always want to allow people to use their job traits creatively. I don't want to break boss battles, but I also figure we were given job traits for fun. Come on a quest other than a Wren one, and use your job traits earlier than the boss battle, and I'll let them effect it even more.
  2. No, that is why the hastened effect was built directly into his weapon. Either twice with them, or throwing dagger.
  3. Roderick laughs his harsh inhuman laugh. "You address the wrong man, Orc. I am no longer in the General. His body deteriorated after the years. It grew weak. I chose a new body. I reside in this." Roderick clenches his hand around the Medallion on his neck. "Perhaps after you fall, I shall reside in you. You claim to be my servant. And it is true, I am but a shard. This General broke off a piece of Ennoc and created me. I am his servant on Oleg, the closest to a God that one can be. If the General had been stronger, had a stronger body, I could have been brought here in full. But for now, I must be the brightest light I can. I must blot out the gray and the dark. I must bathe the world in light. The General is an empty servant now. I have crushed his soul. He had MUCH gray in him." The General's voice rasps out of the skull. "You have no fully crushed me. I can see what I have done, Orc. I can see what I've cre-" The voice stops, but the skull fidgets still. "My servant thinks he can fight the light. Ha! The light engulfs him. It will engulf us all. Let us all welcome it." The General begins to shake. OoC: At the end of each round, there is a 1/6 chance that the General will shrug off the influence of the Shard of Ennoc and become Hexed for the following round.
  4. Jebs, please host another quest that doesn't revolve around saving Orcs. I so badly wanted to go on a Jebs quest, but Boomingham would never agree to save Orcs. Now, I want to go on one even more.
  5. Arthur scuttles forward and picks the flower. The heroes feel the normal gut wrenching feeling as they are rushed into the past... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Well, here we are. It's time. I take the Amulet and then I kill Zoot." "Just as you saw in the Temple." "Exactly." "You know, I never told you exactly what I saw in the Temple, Roderick. I've always been surprised that you never asked." "What does it matter? I know what I'm here for. And I know what I must do." "You're very vain, Roderick. I think it's time that I share what I saw in the Temple. You saw an evil you needed to destroy. I saw something else. Zoot showed me the way of the world. It's chaos, Roderick. It's all Chaos. This valley, our party, Eubric... even you, Roderick. Even you, the hopeful God of Order, you're chaos too. Zoot showed me that, and I accepted it. Because it's true, Roderick. The world is Chaos. It flows through all of us. Me particularly. Zoot gave me a gift, Roderick. He showed me the beauty in the Chaos. The way that there is no order... it's beautiful. And it can only grow more beautiful as Chaos continues to grow. Down in that Temple, Zoot told me how to make the world even more beautiful." Roderick's eyes widen. He begins to raise his sword as he listens to Wren's words. She does not turn, but keeps talking. "You chose a mission down in that temple, Roderick. You saw Chaos, and you decided to smother it. But you can't do that. I saw the truth. I saw the beauty all around us. You are bitter and angry. You hate the world for it's Chaos. I love it for it's Chaos. I embrace it. I truly think it is beautiful. And while you chose your mission, a mission was offered to me. Zoot whispered in my ear. He told me that I could see even more beauty. I could increase the Chaos. All I had to do was bring him into the world." Roderick begins to bring his sword down on Wren's back, but stops suddenly. He is frozen where he stands for a few seconds, and then topples over. Wren turns to look at him. "Thank you for helping me get this far, Roderick. And don't worry, I won't ever serve Zoot. I'll just take his place. I'll be Queen of Chaos. Queen of Beauty. I will experience it forever." Wren begins to charge up a spell but is thrown back by a blast of light. Suddenly, before her stands the General of Light. She fires a bolt at him, that he quickly deflects. The battle is a blur, darkness, fire, lighting, and light all surging around each other. Soon, Wren stands panting. The General stares her down, untouched... "What... what are you?" "I am Ennoc. I am the Lord of Light. Light blots out the darkness. The Orcs, the Chaos, the carnage, the death, it all shrivels up before me. No darkness may survive. You are a daughter of Chaos. You will be destroyed. This world will be purged." The General takes a step towards Wren. And then, something that the heroes never expected to see happens. Wren begins to cry. She throws herself to the ground and begs. "Please, I've just begun to see the beauty of the world. Please, I only now have begun to understand the chaos. Please, you can't blot me out. I've just begun. I've only begun to let the chaos flow through me. I've only begun to understand. I can't die. I can't. I want to experience it forever. I want to live in the Chaos forever. I want to let it live through me forever. Please. Please. I want to live in Chaos forever. I want to see the beauty forever. Please." The General balks. He stumbles. And suddenly, his voice sounds more human. He sounds gentle and old and tired. "Run. Run little one. The splinter of Ennoc in me... it will take over soon. Leave your Knight behind. Ennoc will accept the offering. He wants a new body. Run. Leave this valley. Run. Run." Wren turns and runs, weeping. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The heroes are dumped back into the present, and before them stands two ghosts. One from two hundred and fifty years ago, one from seven years ago. The one from seven years ago have a heavy golden medallion draped around his neck. Roderick speaks with a horrifying voice that makes the heroes feel like their brains are being sawn open. "Hello, servants to the Gray. Are you ready to be destroyed by the Light? I am the Lord of Light. I am a piece of Ennoc. Seven years ago, a young woman came to me, and told me a secret of the world. There is Chaos everywhere. Chaos is not light. It is Gray. She told me it pervades everything. I have reflected on this, and found it to be true. I looked for a source. I found it. It is you mortals. Your wants, your desires, your decisions... it creates the Gray. It creates the Chaos. The world must be freed. You mortals must fall. You will go first." 6.  Without revealing too much... one or two will be impossible to save.... and many many many will be salvable.... but you may have to pick which of them you want to save.
  7. The 8 pronged thing is its teeth and mouth. The Lost Party is a little less complex than some of my other quests, but I promise, the final Wren quest will be 100% making tough decisions based. I will say this: of your friendly NPCs, there will be MANY deaths.
  8. Hey, Phil is a badass guy. I think you're the only one who was told how he ended up in the Arena, but that's one of my favorite back-stories for ANY of my NPCs. AND Phil didn't kill Constance. He arrived afterwards. I can only recall a certain Witch telling a certain Barbarian to throw a certain Bomb... Though Phil does attack most things that move. He's just like that. Lyons was going down no matter what, according to Phil.
  9. Well, actually, we were playing with a broken rules set for that battle, as Sandy later clarified that using a scroll doesn't count as targeting an enemy. NOW try to imagine that battle.
  10. "I will wait to see if Cronk would like it before I take it." "This is not the time for this conversation. I'm sorry to have challenged you, I forgot that you'd take it personally. But if you must know, yes, I would have you stand quietly while a boy scrutinizes you. What did the team gain by you fighting back?" What does the raw meat do? 11. Fixed. The damn site merges posts sometimes, which I split so the BBC code will work. Oh, no doubt. That's the main reason I wanted to post it. I think Tarn and Atramor grew together in a lot of ways throughout that battle, and I didn't want the public to not see it! It also had a few important plot points for Ella and Mallelio.
  12. OoC: As always, I edited out any posts that were strictly OoC or strictly "I repeat this action". ...few unexciting rounds... ...few more rounds...
  13. I have to admit it, I hate my NPCs sometimes. I love writing for them... but it requires me juggling... at this point, somewhere like 20 views on the world. Remembering all of them AND keeping them unique.  Seriously. Just seriously. So hard to figure out who would say what. How does Triad feel about McColt? Would Boomingham and Hans get along? When faced with a bribe, would Russel take it? Would Guffington? How about Mallelio? And none of them can react the exact same way to something, or they'd be boring. Also, note, the Emperor Brunt Side-quest is being published currently. A month after Dastan is over... sorry. It will bother me and no doubt those players that I already bother to have 30 bumped to the top of the page, but in all honesty, it would bother me more if I failed to ever publish it, so it's going up now.
  14. Looks great to me! Now, someone produce a footwear for Knights.
  15. Shhhh, I fixed it in editing. I thought there were only 4 types of artifacts available... turns out there are six.
  16. Just editing my post with that while everyone was typing.
  17. I know. I have many more than three artifacts that I would like! I'm just wondering if I'll ever be able to advance past two. The "no more than one type" will permanently limit us to six no matter what, and will prevent too many. I'm not even making an argument either way, I'm just raising the question. EDIT: I think SIX would be a little much. That would create super-powered heroes, especially this early in the game. I vote that at significant levels where new classes aren't unlocked (let's say 20, 35, 40, 60 for example) adding an extra artifact slot wouldn't be a bad idea. Then the advancement table would look like this. Level 1 - Base Class/2 Artifacts Level 15 - Advanced Classes Level 20 - New Artifact Slot Level 30 - Expert Classes Level 35 - New Artifact Slot Level 40 - New Artifact Slot Level 50 - Master Classes Level 60 - New Artifact Slot It would give the players more to look forward to, particularly once leveling up starts to take more and more time. And now... the backlash.
  18. Question: do we think there will ever be a way to wear/use additional artifacts? Aka, Sandy, will there ever be a way to fanagle that rule, or are we all permanently stuck with just two artifacts? I think hopping up to three at some point in the leveling up process would be nice, especially as the artifacts keep multiplying (and I keep wanting more and more ).
  19. I promise, one day I will create an NPC that Cronk will be allowed to keep. All the NPCs in the Wren Quests have a story to fulfill though. Sorry Cronk. I really will try to get Barkley to him at some point. I just need to set it up properly. I think as my teaser for the final Wren Quest, I will release which characters are going to return for it. As soon as this quest is over. As a quick teaser to the teaser... the final Wren quest will feature 16 returning NPCs (and four new ones).
  20. Triad turned to the Orc Paladin. "You are strong, and we admire you, Cronk. What you say speaks of a great strength. Everyone must know what is good and bad in their eyes, and everyone must no falter in their own views on that. To us, good and evil are not subjective. What we find good is good, and what we find evil is evil. But Tesni speaks truly as well. Some actions can be read both ways. Every argument has an opposite side. Everyone decides what their definition of good and evil is. We cannot fault anyone for this, as we all do it. We can only champion our own opinion. It is as you said. We want to make the world better, but we must first pick our vision of better. It may not agree with other's version of better. So we must prevent the others, but never forget that they too are simply trying to better their world." "Do not wish that. You are a wise woman who flourishes in the gray. You make the choices you see as right, you can wish for no more, so don't bother." The Gray Wizard whirled next on Haldor. "You perhaps are the greenest party leader I have seen in my time at Heroica. You have fought with two members of your party since I encountered you. It is impossible for you not to have views on those who serve with you. While leading them, however, you must set aside those views. If Arthur is a snob, or Alexis has left your friend, you can tell them this. But not here. Not now. Not when you need them to protect you, and vice-versa. Now is not the time. The life of a leader is difficult and lonely. This is why we change leaders between quests. You must remain outside your team to properly lead them." "Life is filled with tribulations. You could probably say that life is tribulation. They are what make you stronger. I can't say I know anything about this man of your's, but if what Haldor says is true, and you ran after your first fight... then you may be missing an opportunity, Alexis. Even if things do not work out, if you avoid the ice and fire, you will remain where you are, not grow stronger. And never stoop to using your gender as an excuse for any form of behavior. I won't allow you to. Choose to be strong." The Gray Wizard shushes the party. He points ahead of them. The passageway ends in a small staircase. Bal and Sasha go up first, and alert the rest of the party that the area up is clear. The rest of the party climbs the stairs. They are inside the Eye. The floor is composed of rotting planks of wood, and the walls, once strong and a few layers of stone thick, have started to crumble. A series of stairs spiral upwards into the dark depths of the higher levels of the building. At the center of the first floor is a pink flower. Boomingham sighs happily when he sees Nyx will need an explanation before putting her total faith in him. "If it were anyone other than you, they'd get a verbal thrashing for questioning their command, but we all need some people who are willing to check us. My mind hasn't gone yet though, dear. I put you at the top and asked no one to target Blackpeg. Our ever useful witch has hexed him, so he'll not be hitting you with that free hit, but rather one of his own. They don't give that title to just anyone." Boomingham does notice that there is one mistake in the battle order, however. He amends it slightly, so that Orc A will go toe to toe with Atramor, while Boomingham deals with the Rat.
