Adding in some beefy enemies for our resident Necromancer! I believe I'm the first person to host an Expert Class, am very excited to see what happens. Looking forward to the quest, everyone. EDIT: Also very much afraid of making a too easy quest. You guys will be challenged, I hope.

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Zepher replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Nyx, you'll be needing these gloves, and quick. Thothwick, if you'd hold off one of the little wolves, I think I can deal with Steerpike for a round." Boomingham offers the sterile gloves to Nyx, though the two of them remain in the back row. Battle Order >Thothwick v. Lupus >Boomingham gives gloves to Nyx >Nyx accepts gloves Free Hits >Remus v. That's your interpretation of Gods. Sandy has specifically never clarified how they work. Different people believe in them in different degrees. It's a little narrow minded to claim that there are no gods. Azazot is also interesting in that he differs from the other gods. He clearly DOES have an effect on the physical world. He is a powerful other dimension demon if not a God. Wren would have died either way. More hero deaths! Probably a few more NPC deaths. The void would have opened, but in a more dangerous way. I would have (with WBD's consent) had Skrall tackle her into it as he had opted for perma death. Felton would have more hastily explained to the heroes, and then also have been swallowed.

Hey all, hitting the road but will post a strategy tonight, sorry for the wait . Thothwick, Nyx, snark Baba while I'm gone if you want.

That is the way that it has been done in the past by multiple other QMs, as it is the way that makes most sense. You of course have final ruling on everything, but that has been done that way.

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Zepher replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: In the past, counterstrike HAS considered row, and has NOT considered encouraged. If you want to do it differently, that's okay by me! I believe Lucky also should effect my healing roll. I know encouraged doesn't, but generally lucky does. I will wait for your reply/reroll before making plans for the following round. Boomingham scoffs at the woman. "We will see when the time comes." He does not even bother to answer Steerpike. Boomingham offers his hand to Nyx and helps her off the floor. "Good morning, sunshine," he says. -
The JOAT must pick either an investigation OR a protection. I find that often times Vanilla Townies sit around and say "hm, I wonder when investigations will come in". This way, they won't be waiting for that. The killers are UNLIKELY to get all of that, but even so, maybe a protector will get to work twice in one night. Likewise, the Life Savers will prevent that possibility. On top of that, there are 3 bulletproof players. So even in the event of 5 kills in one night, there will also be 5 players who can't be killed a night. It is, of course, equally likely that one of the killers will accidentally pick a downer pill. I understand your critiques. I'm still thinking about the motivation pills very seriously.

Time for some answers! I'm not adverse to changing the rules a little (in fact, I'm relatively sure I WILL change the rules before the game begins) but for now, I will just respond to some of the questions/critiques. This is one mechanic I am ABSOLUTELY keeping in. I included a lot of roles and powers to deter only night kills and waiting on investigations. I want this to be a lynch based game. The SK will HAVE to be lynched, which will give the town and scum an interesting incentive to work together on at least one day. Thank you for your feedback! It is extremely helpful. I will try to either address the issues, or fix them. It is almost exactly like the Dream God. The God Pills are the only thing about the game that will NOT be open before hand. They are also probably the only other thing I really don't plan to budge on. The motivator does indeed make things a little funky. However (and this answers one of your questions) with the exception of a GOD PILL, if the player who had the pill is lynched or killed during the night, the pill will be removed from the game. That makes it less likely that there will be a motivator often. There is also a good chance that a vanilla will get one of the pills early on. The town has a protector, yes, but he is ALSO the investigator. He must use one of the two, so I'd assume it would be a 50/50 split. Likewise, the Life Savers could possibly be used by the scum, so none of the pills really favor one side or the other. You are right. I have now cut the Pill Expert. The Pill Expert on both sides will be replaced with a Universal Back-Up. This allows me to cut the Ducklings (also to serve as a universal back-up) and the Inventor's ability to pass along abilities. I believe that addresses a number of issues, and cuts down on the roles a little. Tell me what you think of the changes! I will also be adding the provision that, as per most of your games, the scum may drop an action to save the action of a dead teammate. The Inventor and Inscrutable Roles will stay tied to each other. The SK can be found to be a Killer by the Role Cop because there are three killers, and it will certainly not out the SK, but will cast suspicion. I believe it is fair. Maybe I need a different word for it than Inscrutable. 1) You're in! 3) Tell me what you think of the changes! Inventors are sticking around. Ducklings are removed. JOATs will remain in. I hate people waiting for investigations. Knowing that the town has to choose between investigating and protecting means that the vanillas will really be forced to think. A NOTE ON MY LOVE FOR INVENTORS: They have the ability to give vanilla's the ability to DO something, even if only once. I like that. The Inventors will stay in.

Keep the critiques coming! I want to give the sign-ups a little of time before I start to tweak the rules, but I'm listening in and thinking on what you have to say. I will at least address every concern and allow you to decide if you're still interested, and am certainly not adverse to switching some things up.

[banner Pending] The Story Once upon a time in the land of Mafia, a new Host was putting together a game! He had all the characters and everything, and was oh-so-excited. Things were looking up for him. But then, as one might suspect, he was murdered. It was a plot device. The murder was done by a bad group of nasty Mafia characters who decided that murdering each other over and over again wasn't really their thing anymore. This nasty group of 6 individuals decided they would break the cycle by breaking out a Mafia Land. But, of course, the loyal townies got in their way. Someone called up a new Host (Zepher) and asked if he couldn't lead a bit of a game to try to catch these scummy murderers in Mafia Land. Zepher arrived on the scene, ready to set up the game. Unfortunately, he found the office of the previous Host ransacked, and a copy of all of his notes missing. Zepher was distraught. Clearly, the scum had stolen the notes on the game and would know all the rules. Now, Zepher didn't want to design a whole new game (he was sort of lazy) and had been planning on simply copying the rules and roles that the old host had made up. Zepher decided that instead of making a new game, he'd just release the rules to everyone, to make it fair. THE DESIGN 24 Players 17 Town - 6 Scum - 1 SK The Day 24 Hour Safe Period - 48 Hour Voting Period - 24 Hour Night Period (With a full exciting 20 hour period to submit night actions!) Some time before the 24 Hour Mark, the Pill Cart will be rolled out. The time will be randomized each day, to be fair to timezones. The time will be chosen by Random.org. The Pills will effect that night or the following day. The Pills 2 "God Pills" (Effect the following day) - 2 Uppers (Night action may be used twice) - 2 Lifesavers (Will be safe from a kill that night) - 16 Placebos (No Effect) - 2 Downers (Night action may not be performed) The Night Actions Town and Scum have NEARLY IDENTICAL ROLES with only a few tweaks to change for their sides. JOAT Town: Investigator/Protector Scum: Framer (2 Shot)/Protector/Janitor (1 Shot) Role Cop Killer Blocker Inventor Can invent a net (blocker), shield (protector), magnifying glass (investigation), or pistol (kill action). Bulletproof. Inscrutable (all investigation attempts including role cop will come up as "unsuccessful"). The inventor may either gift his invention, or create a new one, he may not do both on the same night. Universal Back-Up When a scum with an action dies, the scum team may choose to drop an action and retain the one they would have lost. Serial Killer Bulletproof. Inscrutable (Alternatively to the Inventor, the Serial Killer will be noted as a "Killer" to Role Cops). HOW TO JOIN THE FUN 1) How many Mafia games have you played here? 2) What's your favorite emoticon to use during Mafia? 3) Is there anything you would change about this design? Does one side seem under powered? Why? -I apologize to all. As of tomorrow night, I will be back with my Lego, and done with my first year of college. The banner will go up then, thank you so much for your patience!- SIGN UPS WILL BE OPEN FOR A LITTLE OVER A WEEK

That's what it's looking like! Final question, Sandy: Injection will have an effect if they've rolled Half Moon Venom before, or if they still have all three effects?

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Zepher replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: I totally forgot she could wake up! We're okay! And as I said in the discussion thread, Remus should be bleeding. Boomingham watches as the elf is thrown across the stage. He cringed slightly at the crunch. He had not known the man, but had seen him earlier in the night with Nyx. He glanced over at the young girl quietly sleeping and nodded thankfully. He takes a step back towards the denizens of Eubric. "My lady, I too have seen many things," Boomingham says to Baba. "I have seen many things that I have disagreed with. I have watched and heard many horrors. I am a surviving of the Orcish Invasion. I fought, and I won many battles. My flesh and blood betrayed me or died. I am very lonely and very alone." "Months ago, a man named Bluehood tried to give everyone in the city power. I stopped him and his foolish schemes. We earn power. You are attempting to strip these people of power. That will not be allowed either. We are all lonely and alone, but we still defend each other. That is power. Earning the respect of others up to the point that they are willing to die for you." Boomingham turns next to Steerpike. "You always have a choice. That is the only power we mortals have. I'm offering you a choice now. Certain death on my blade, or potential death on hers. Tell me your choice." Barty, zips near Baba and whispers (so that Boomingham can't hear him). "You will die today, witch." Boomingham raises his sword and shield. "Thothwick, rip that damn wax out of your ears! Throw a bone at Steerpike!" Boomingham turns to Nyx and attempts to heal her, prepared to defend himself against the wolves bearing down on him. Battle Order Boomingham Thothwick Nyx -
I know. Let me try to strategize myself out of this one.
-
Does immunity to something also work as a cure to it? I assumed not, but perhaps?
-
He was a terrible King. But a good commander. Flitwick, stick around, I'm going to have you change your action. I just want Steerpike to respond first.
-
We can make a good plan. We'll see how long you live. But I do have a concrete plan, which will end with us winning. Remember, Boomingham was a commander, and he's claimed to have been good at it.
-
I don't want to make hard battles easier for me. What would be the fun in that?
-
I actually can win this battle. Can't promise Nyx or Thothwick will love me at the end... but I have all the tools I need. Also, Remus should be bleeding.
-
Baba killed all the Moon Elves. I think, at least. Scuba, always trying to out bad the big-bads. Doesn't respect Baba, doesn't respect Wren. Maybe he just doesn't like witches. And I don't have a good plan, Pandy... but I have a plan. We'll be okay for a while, at least. But we're putting Nyx on life support. Booooooo. Don't give us reinforcements!! I wanted Barty to fly out and ask them for hep, but thought that might be cheap. If they wanted to pass us an item or two through the window of a locked door or something... I wouldn't be opposed to that.
-
Or Phoenix Essences! Don't worry, I have a plan. It's been said, yes. I'm glad she and Boomers will have a chance to chat. I've always felt he's not really part of the main story... and now he's VERY MUCH a part of the main story.

Heroica RPG - Quest#66: WANTED! Steerpike the Poisoner
Zepher replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
OoC: Nyx remains in the back row because that is where she fell asleep, no? Boomingham growls again as Nyx goes down. He rips the wax out of his ears and turns to Steerpike. "What have you done to her?! What is your goal here?" Boomingham swats at Barty and roars. "Nyx is down, pay attention you fool!" Either the swat or Nyx's condition snaps Barty out of whatever trance he is in. He flies to the young girl's side. "Nyx, get up!" he howls. -
If you fail and let those extra goons in... I can't say I understand the kitchen party entirely, though. Poor souls.
-
WBD actually approached me with the idea that time around! I'll fix it eventually, but for at least the first few rounds, let's say that it's 50/50. Perhaps Boomingham will remove the wax later... right now, it doesn't seem like he'd want to.
