  1. Toss-up between the Classic Alien and the Scarecrow, but I had to go with the underdog Alien, he's just so perfect!
  2. Wow, this was the toughest round yet for me, they're all fantastic figs! I narrowed it down to the Evil Knight, Battle Goddess, and Warrior Woman but the Warrior Woman ultimately won out.
  3. Wow, awesome build!! I love how you used the boat pieces, don't think I've ever seen that before and certainly would never have thought of it myself! Looks amazing!!
  4. I don't think we'll see a new traditional Castle theme until Nexo Knights is over, but personally I don't mind. Of course, that mostly comes from where I'm at in my life right now, kind of a transitional period between college and finding a career, and I currently can't really afford to spend much on LEGO. I think Nexo Knights does have some cool stuff to offer us castle fans in the mean-time, a couple of the sets seem a little more castle-oriented than sci-fi, and most of the villains in this year's lineup can easily be used for a demon/monster army in a classic fantasy setting. So while I don't think we'll see a new Castle theme while Nexo Knights sets are being produced, I don't mind, and I know at some point in the future we'll have a classic Castle line again. Plus we keep getting several Castle-themed minifigures in the collectible minifigures series every year to make up for the lack of them in current sets.
  5. Overall, I like them more than I had originally expected too. I also see that some of the minifigures on the original list that was floating around aren't present (the Inside Out characters are the ones that come to mind). I think it's a very nice assortment, and I'll definitely be picking up a set. Lots of potential for fantasy stuff. Maleficent is the one that especially stands out to me. Not sure why they went with a regular minifig head for Buzz, the original looked so much better, but maybe they just wanted to give all the figures a similar look, seeing as the rest of them (aside from creatures) have regular heads.
  6. Very cool. I especially like how you used the old Racers drivers.
  7. I'm not seeing the Winged Warrior in his designs. The Gaul has a similar helmet, and some of the figures have wings, but nothing on there looks like it was an inspiration for the Winged Warrior.
  8. Probably pretty soon, now that some hi-res images have leaked. My guess is within the next week, hopefully. In regards to the pictures, I'm a little disappointed now that the "Scary" Knight has a normal face and therefore isn't the undead warrior I was hoping for, but aside from that he's still a really cool figure, especially with that shield and mace.
  9. I agree, it looks like he has a white face with glowing red eyes like the Fantasy Era skeletons. It's hard to tell for sure though. All in all, I'm very impressed with this series. Satyr, Winged Warrior, and Scary Knight are my favorites and all going to be army builders for me. The Queen is great too. Not really a bad figure in this series. The Animal Control Woman is a little boring (too similar to the S5 Zookeeper I think), but the skunk makes up for it. The Astronaut looks okay, but he should have had a different helmet. The rest are all worthy additions to the line. Can't wait for these to come out!
  10. I try to buy all my minifigs new while they're in stores (it's the cheapest way). I'm usually able to get a full series that way, plus several extras, until they're no longer on store shelves (I go every couple weeks and usually buy four at a time). If there's any figs I still want more extras of once they're no longer in stores, I'll go on Bricklink or eBay. Some of the earlier series I've had to complete by getting some of the figures secondhand, but I think since series 10 I've been able to snag them all in stores.
  11. Awesome MOC! I'm a big fan of both castle and scary stuff, and this is a fantastic combination of both!
  12. The top one is the one I immediately thought of when I saw the list. That has been something I've wanted to see made since I first saw the design. The bottom one is cool too, but I'd love to see a version of the top one.
  13. I agree with you on that one, there's not really much anyone can do with a plain yellow head. Then again, I'm sure someone will come up with an inventive way to use it. I can see your point, but I think it's still better than Series 3.
  14. Really? That one's my least favorite, the pieces are useless to me as a castle fan. The best one is clearly the third from the left in the middle row. THAT'S the clear army builder figure of the series. Just look at those yellow legs and tell me I'm wrong!
  15. Excellent mosaic. I also happen to have muscular dystrophy, and our past-times seem pretty similar. Arrow is one of my favorite shows as well (well pretty much all the comic book/superhero shows are my favorites). You should do The Flash next!
  16. I always love looking over those designs. My favorites are always the undead knight and the short goblin with the cleaver (would love to see that pointy hood piece), so hopefully one of those turns up in this series. Undead knight is probably more likely since we just had a goblin fig.
  17. I have several tables set up with my collection. I have a story going on with it, and my layout is continually changing as I get new sets. My plan now is to start "recycling" some of my older sets and build MOCs. I'm planning on starting a topic here soon that will have pictures of my collection, so be on the lookout for that.
  18. I highly doubt there would be any Pixar figures, mostly because most Pixar characters wouldn't be appropriate for the minifigure design. Aside from Toy Story, which we've already had sets for which include pretty much all the characters. Most other Pixar movies are centered around characters that wouldn't work as minifigures - Monsters Inc. has monsters of various weird shapes and sizes that wouldn't work as minifigures; Finding Nemo is fish; Cars is, well, cars, and we've already had those in sets; A Bug's Life is insects; the list goes on and on. Maybe a couple characters from Up or The Incredibles could make their way in, but I think The Incredibles would be better suited for a future line of sets. Most Pixar movies center around non-human characters, meaning there's a very short list of characters that could be adapted as minifigures. As for the princesses, like others have said, any princesses in this series should be minifigures and not mini-dolls, which will be much appreciated by us castle/fantasy fans.
  19. Most of the regular series minifigures can be grouped into different subthemes. Castle/fantasy, space, city, horror/monsters, and sports are the most common, and all of them have been actual LEGO themes in the past or present. Series 14 is monsters, which we usually get one or two of in every series. As far as sets go, we had the old LEGO Studios monsters, Monster Fighters, and now Scooby-Doo. I don't think it's that far fetched to see a Castle, Space, or City series if they decide to continue with the non-licensed themed series. Historical is one category from the CMF series that hasn't been a LEGO theme, and that might actually be a really cool idea for a themed series - maybe they'll do that next. But aside from that and the ones I mentioned above, there aren't really any subthemes that would be reasonable for a whole series. Stuff like Pirates, Ninjas, and even Winter Village/Holiday figures don't really have enough unique characters to choose from to get a full 16 minifigure series. Whereas themes like Castle and City (and Monsters) have a huge variety of figures they could choose to make, including ones we've never seen before. Likewise, I don't think tying a minifigure series into an original theme would be a good idea - only fans of that theme would be likely to buy very many, and you probably wouldn't get any minifigures you've been wishing they'd release unless you're a fan of said theme. The LEGO Movie is different because it had a broader appeal and I wouldn't be surprised if they do another LEGO Movie series when the sequel comes out (especially because of the success and popularity of the first movie). But personally I would find a Legends of Chima or Ninjago theme boring compared to a Castle or Space theme.
  20. I have every figure from series 1-13. Although I do not count them as part of the "main collection," I also have a complete Simpsons series 1 as well as a mostly complete LEGO Movie series. I don't count Team GB or the exclusives.
  21. I personally love the Monsters series but that's largely due to being a huge fan of Halloween my entire life. I can't say I'll be using many of them in my larger LEGO layout but I still love them and can't wait to use them in some displays, especially when I bring my Haunted House set out onto the kitchen counter during October. :P One themed series I would really like is Super Heroes, but there might be similar issues as we have with Star Wars. For me personally, I just like collecting them all because I have from the beginning and it's cool to have a complete collection of something. I wish I had more than two modular buildings and more than three UCS Star Wars sets, but at least I can say I have (almost) every CMF released. It makes a cool display and it's also fun to have unique figures that don't fit in with my castle/fantasy LEGO collection. I often have fun with them displaying them with my winter village collection every year where they are all doing different things (i.e. all the space figures battling on the rooftops, the horror figures running the carousel). Collecting them all isn't for everybody but it's something I enjoy. I also buy extra figures for armies as well as for pieces to make my own characters. The Simpsons are separate from the numbered releases and also aren't very useful to combine with regular figures (at least for my purposes), so I didn't buy Series 2 and only bought Series 1 for the novelty and also with the potential of selling them in the future when they might become more valuable. I only mentioned City as an example of a standalone theme they could do. Not saying it's likely or even something I'd want. I'd much rather have a castle, fantasy, or mythology theme. Even a space theme would be pretty cool. City would be last on my last, but that's why I included that example because it would be a series I'd largely skip. Yes, we do seem to like the same kinds of minifigs. The ones you listed are all highlights for me as well. To be honest, I may not even bother feeling Series 14 when they first hit stores either. My wallet will definitely not be happy if they do end up deciding to do a castle theme. At least with Series 14 I won't be getting a huge amount of extras, at least no more than a normal series. The Gargoyle will probably be the only real army builder for me, although I may get a few extras of some of the others. But a castle series would have the potential to have tons of army builders, which is a slightly terrifying prospect.
  22. Honestly, I think what they did this year and may be doing next year is a good idea. One "normal" series - call it a diverse series if you want, one that has figures from a variety of themes. One licensed series - this year The Simpsons, next year Disney I guess (this topic was the first I'd heard of a Disney series). And one themed series - this year it was Monsters, next year it could be castle, or space, or city, etc. That's a nice steady pace I think, and also has the potential to be easier on our wallets. I have been a diehard CMF collector from the start, and I have completed every series through 13 with the exception of The LEGO Movie, which I'm still working on. But the novelty of the Simpsons wore off and I decided not to buy any of series 2 this year. I also buy a lot of extras of figures I really like for castle/fantasy purposes. I'm sure a lot of other collectors do the same thing, and some people's extras are space or city figures as opposed to castle. In the case of the Monsters series, I love it, and a lot of the figures are going to be useful for me. Now if next year they decided to do a City theme, it doesn't bother me, sure I won't be getting any extras but I'll save a bunch of money. And a "normal" series will still be released that should have a couple figures I'll find use for. The point is, they've already released 13 "normal" series, with plenty of figures to satisfy everyone. I don't think it's a big deal to slow it down a little and release specialized series in between. It gives some adult collectors a chance for a break, while giving fans (kids and adults alike) of the specialized series out at the time a treat. I mean, imagine if they released a castle series. I wouldn't even worry about feeling the bags, at least not at first, I'd just grab a few knowing I'd be happy with whatever I got, including extras. And as far as waiting in between releases, I don't know about where everyone else lives, but where I live the recent series have been stocked and restocked all year. I saw some series 12 on sale in Toys R Us two weeks ago, and they've been out almost a year (they've also been on sale for a few months). Today Walmart had restocked series 13 and I picked up a few more. And you can always go on eBay or Bricklink if you missed a figure when it was in stores.
  23. Yeah, I've been thinking about what heads might be good for that purpose. That one's definitely a good one.
  24. Awesome MOC. I see I'm not the only one who had the idea to incorporate the Yeti minifigures into a castle/fantasy setting.
  25. Agree with you 100% on this. I've been wanting a minifig-scale Heroica theme for a while now. All the pieces are already in place from the games, and they could really do a lot of cool stuff with it. Sadly I don't see it happening, but who knows? Until we have confirmation that it won't, we can still hope.
