[HELP] Motorcycle Tire Size
DrJB replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I only have the recent wheels/tires and the old are rather rare (8420). That said, one option would be to compare both parts within LDraw. -
While some see this as a 'weakness' of pneumatic systems, to me it's more of an unavoidable touch of realism, especially with hydraulic/pneumatic systems. All Construction Machines I've worked on have a mechanical lock that must be engaged whenever the boom is to be left up for an extended period of time. This is primarily for safety reasons as hydraulic systems DO develop leaks, and the last thing you want is for that boom to come down (thanks to gravity) and cause serious damage or even injure/kill operators. For the same reasons, bulldozers' seats and seatbelts are equipped with safety switches that disengage the tracks should the operator decide to operate while standing. But, I'm digressing :) I'm not talking about functions, as it seems you missed the point. And, since you're asking, YES, I do want my F1 racer to pack not only a winch but portal axles and a pneumatic lift gate ;). Seriously though, my point was that many recent official sets seem 'hollow' with lots of empty space inside. In contrast, take a look at some of the outstanding MOCs out there, and they are rather dense. Those that come to mind are Madoka's SUVs and D3K's Swing Loader. I recommend building those (against 8448/42000) to appreciate the difference. Going back to the F1 racer, since when such cars come WITHOUT a transmission? Looking at my kids, only thing that matters now has got to be iPad-related ... and all legos I buy are because 'dad' wants to

Technic General Discussion
DrJB replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
very welcome. Try to get the 8996 Bionicle Skopio set, it's full of technic parts, decent price, and has 8× the part you're looking for. -

It's this part from the Mars Mission 7645 MT-61 Crystal Reaper. It shows up in few Bionicle Sets also, but in Trans-Blue. -
[WIP] Honda S2000
DrJB replied to VKTechnic's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When that vehicle was first sold in the US (around 2000, of course), the most 'favorite' color was Atlanta Blue (Metallic of course) -

I believe those require a line-of-sight. Now, on the other hand, the new S-Brick works via BlueTooth and as such, requires no line of sight. It's a bit like the PlayStation remote. -

Not sure what 'reasonable' is, but there are few on BrickLink (link below). It is true that there are not many available now and that is why prices are a bit on the high side. Good Luck. http://www.bricklink...0645&colorID=11 -

Thank You legolijnte and Roland. I deleted the config file, restarted and now it's working great. -
GBC General Discussion

Coming up really nice. I must warn though, for those of us endeavoring to build such contraption that, according to Akiyuki himself in one of his web sites, tuning and timing of all the functions/modules is really tricky. I can't find the page now but it was in Japanese and I had to use Google Translate. In fact, even the author of the build videos spends a great deal of time explaining how to put all the modules together and how to time/tune them . The complexity does not diminish the scale of the project. On the contrary, it makes one even more appreciative of the efforts that go into it.- 1,124 replies

Lego Serial Numbers?
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think the markings are on the cardboard box, not the actual bucket. -

These are from an extension of the Technic Line into 'Duplo'. They were discussed here a while back. It's TLG's attempt to make kids younger than 3 use gears and levers .- 5,504 replies

I've been hesitant to get this set, but after seeing the terrific job Jim has done with the review, my opinion has 'evolved'. Jim: Your dedication to this hobby and impeccable reviews are sure having an effect . All I need now is to find one heavily 'discounted' .

Here are few options for a counter-weight 1. A box made with lego panels, but filled with sand (in a plastic bag of course) 2. Many stacked heavy parts 73090b from BrickLink Option #1 it clearly is for those adventurous amongst us, not bound by 'purist' edicts. Though, cost-wise, option #2 might be a viable altenative than to fill the counterweight with regular bricks.

I was looking at one of the threads (http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=96284) started by Jim (our Moderator on here) and in the picture below, you could clearly see some markings 19M4 in the middle. Are these 'serial numbers' and a way for TLG to somehow track the sets for recalls (as they did in 8043), production date, or other uses? It would be interesting, for those of you who have multiple copies of a given set, to see if the numbers are all the same on the boxes, or different. PS: By 'Serial Number' I do not mean that in the classic sense. Possibly a combination of Production Date and Item Sequence Number, just like in many goods (e.g. markings on the tires of your car)

Not to sway too much off-topic but I have seen many 'recognizable' GBC modules at various conventions/events, and none of them had any credit posted next to them. Those were clearly copied and/or adapted from other original designs. Those that come to mind are the ones by philo (large star wars wheels and shovel) and Akiyuki (birds). It is very difficult to draw a line here to decide when it is appropriate and when not to give credit at large events. After all, we're all here to be inspired by other members' designs and inherently some sort of plagiarism always happen. This of course is not the case with Mahjqa's point and his reaction is fully justified. While one must feel offended (or taken advantage of), the reality of the situation is nothing can be really done about it ... except to uphold some sort of 'Honor Code'.

Not sure many on here use the 'Group' functionality. I've seen many LDDs of MOCs withouf a single usage of groups. The only 'weakness' I found is, you can make a group and add it to your library. However, if you go back and select a part in that group, you can move that part by itself only. Is there a way to force LDD to select the WHOLE group if I select a part from within a given group? I'm looking for the same functionality as in microsoft drawings within powerpoint. If you click on a part that is within a group, the whole group is selected.

Very interesting. I wonder how this is done in real life. From watching cranes operate, typically the boom only swings left/right under load. It is not supposed to extend/retract while loaded. The kinematics/design of these machines are the subject of intensive research and patents, and your find certainly confirms that. Great Job!

I'm with many on here that Mahjqa's designs are truly out-of-the-ordinary, and most of them deserve to be made into official sets. I've built two of his models (Tachikoma and Metal Grudge) and my kids had a lot of fun with them. I also have two more in-process (Stilkin and Tumbler). At Mahjqa: I've completed a full LXF of the Metal Grudge. Would it be ok to post? Or I can email it to you and you post it where you feel appropriate.

General Part Discussion
DrJB replied to Polo-Freak's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you, that's exactly it. I did not think of this, I had made one with 2 thin 3L liftarms at the bottom (in place of the 2L beam and bushing), but one round hole was replaced by an axle-hole.- 5,504 replies
