Has anyone been able to buy this set yet? I was expecting it to go for sale today at S@H and the banner says 'Buy Now' but he actual page says 'coming soon'. Can't recall a situation like this before with the release of a set. I am going to a Lego Store tomorrow, hope to pickup a box then...

Confession time: I play first-person shooter games as well play with LEGO. I guess I am a 10 year-old. Wait a minute - Yes! I am still a ten year-old!

Maybe slightly off topic but since you mention it, I have a complete inventory of every set I have ever owned in a spreadsheet. I keep the set number, number of pieces, number of minifigs, price I paid, date of purchase, where I purchased and the storage container if the set is no longer on display. I also download all the instructions from LEGO for each set no matter how small - even free polybags if they are available, otherwise I store a 'googled' picture of the bag as future reference. It is also handy as reference for the insurance should we ever get burgled. It now has roughly 4 years of AFOL madness on record. Is this extreme? The spreadsheet tells me exactly how many LEGO bricks I have, which sets I still have to build and how much I spend per year. That last number I don't always want to know by the way.

No need to tear them if you don't want to. Just get a small sharp knife, use it under the seam of the box flap and gently glide it along the edge to open a side of the box.
-
Good point but how does that work? Do you put the collapsed boxes in their cos surely a big box like the MF would not fit?
-
I keep all my boxes and it is hell to store but I can't bring myself to chuck them away. I have absolutely no intention of selling my sets but I have some very rare ones in my collection. I like to think my collection is completed by their original boxes and manuals. What I do personally is collapse the boxes so that they can be pressed flat. I only do this with the common sets, which, like the poster above mentions, just like matchbox cars may eventually (after many, many years) be worth more than the actual set itself. I take care not to damage the box, for example if a box has those god-awful thumb-press openings I carefully use a knife to open the flap instead of damaging the box. The boxes for the real exclusive sets (I am talking the 41999, the MF, SSD, Carroussel, etc.) I keep completely untouched complete with the plastic bags, used sheet that contained the stickers, etc. Probably, all this will be for nothing. I never look at the boxes, I never plan to sell. But who knows, one day when I have passed away it might make a small fortune for my kids. That's what keeps me going in regard to the boxes...

True value of Lego as a whole....Very undervalued IMO
TheLegGodt replied to bricklayer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am sure it is but not so explicitly as you suggest. Value of a company is the total market value of the shares. This is determined by the expectation of future profits of its greatest aaset: the plastic brick and the sets/models. As long as there are customers like you (and me) that value the models at retail price (maybe even more if we see higher resell prices then TLG can consider raising their prices since we all apperently value the product more) then shareholders will calculate this potential in the share price. So indirectly, since we value lego (whether it is first or second hand) so much this potential is reflected in the shareprice of TLG and thus in the total value of lego/TLG. -

Lego Batman spinoff will replace The LEGO Movie 2 in 2017

Would rather see a spin off around Benny or Metal Beard -
It was an attempt at humour but clearly not a very succesful one ;-)

LEGO is a great escape from demanding and high pressure jobs. That is my experience, anyway. Working with hands, seeing something very concrete materialize and the sense of personal achievement that can be nicely displayed. Fantastic!

Greetz back from a fellow Dutch resident (not a citizen though). I wish I had had the good sense to stick with LEGO during my teens but I needed another 25 years or so before I refound my love for the old plastic brick

Played Destiny on PS4 for a couple of days and sold it. Not engaging enough and it needs a serious and ongoing investment in time to get any good. Time I would rather spend on LEGO like you have done as well ;-)

Can you point me towards photos I have searched but do not find... Does anyone know more about the 2 alternative builds? They are hard to make out but seem to be closed on all angles. Could the main build be an open-backed combo of the toy AND grocery shop and the alternative builds offer either a more complete toy OR grocery shop? I wonder if TLG intends us AFOLs who want more Modular-looking houses to buy 2 of these sets to build both alternative structures... If that were the case then that would be a compromise I would be willing to live with provided the price is in proportion.

Disappointed. This indeed 'degrades' toward the simplistic City design whereas the lovely bike shop was 'upgrading' towards the modulars. Probably won't buy this one (you never never know - final product might have suprises we can't see yet) and hope TLG change course and carry on down the more modular route...
-
Must buy for me. Love the WV series, it's about Xmas guys so no need to be realistic just fun and magical. Does that perfectyl. Brick built reindeer are awesome. Much much better than last years Carrousel.

I've been curious about rumours for the next modular... It's been very quiet although I suspect it will be announced end of October for a january launch. Is Detective Agency a real rumour or just wishful thinking on your part? I was expecting something more governmental...

Yeah - my wife pointed this out the other day... 'it's good to sea that game makers and film makers agree on the general sound a zombie should make'. I was playing The Last Of Us. So we are all conditioned. I have yet to hear a zombie make sounds like a smurf

Hi welcome. I think an overall of 6.3 is very low for a shop that just happens to have a very bad mini fig kiosk at the moment. So in other words, if they improve that they will shoot up to an 8 or something? Seems very steep. Good idea though to review LEGO stores, don't think I've seen that before. The community could rate stores over the world and thus show TLG what we really are looking for. From that point of view, it does make sense to penalise a store 'severely' if they don't live to expectations on a particular category. Especially since overall I suspect the stores in general are very good anyhow.

good wholesome stuff. The big one next to the laptop looks inspired by the Viper from Battlestar Galactica...?

Morbid topic but been on my mind as well on and off. I guess my wife and kids will decide. I hope they keep my lego room as a shrine but really that's just vain. I have joked to them i hope to come back as one of the minfigs in my layout. Not sure thoughh which one yet ;-)

Lego is now the World's biggest toy maker.
TheLegGodt replied to jacob_uno's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Is that really so? I wonder. Investors buy-up relatively large quantities to sell later. If they were not there, the same numbers may still be sold but then to the real collector over a longer period of time. But maybe you're right. I can only hope that LEGO has an adequate marketing intelligence unit so they know what they are doing... -
Very colourful, busy, different. I can imagine there is a lot of 'you' in there. Nice to see someone else also mix up all the themes. Why not have mechas parled on the high street. But... How lomg do you have to wait until the dog is trained? And doesn't the LEGO get awfully dusty on the floor?
-
here's hoping about the price but I must confess if I am willing to spend 200 on a set I would also be willing to spend 250. Otherwise, I think it was not really worth 200 either to begin with. Know what I mean or is that just my crazy pscycology? Hope TLG isn't reading these posts! Scrap that, I hope they are ;-)

Let's hope it doesn't make TLG lazy or arrogant. That's not in their DNA but success will go to anyone's head.
