Again, this is nonsense. This set has already been well received and will bring many more people to Lego than it will put off. This site and other fora you may be in are not representative, and speaking as someone happy to identify as LGBTQI+ or queer, it’s not all that welcoming when we bring up any issues or talk about representation. I think you may have read it as you wanted to. The enemy of greater representation is not other underrepresented groups, nor specious arguments that we need everything or nothing. I do hope no one is suggesting that a peg-legged, one-eyed, hook-handed pirate is a great cover-all or figurehead for people with disabilities … because that would be pretty er … 🙄 we don’t know that there are not sets based on ability or race or anything else - my reading implies there are, and has already been noted, that is an ongoing issue across the themes and the themes they choose to make, anyway.
-
I mean - okay, you don’t like ‘Mr Ashton’ and what you perceive as gay sets. Nothing in that article said that inclusion and diversity meant only LGBT+ themes, that’s just your read. And the production of set or theme X doesn’t need to be the reason set or theme Y doesn’t happen. I said gender, not sexual orientation - the balance of female figures has definitely increased and become less tokenistic. Similarly, disability representation matters, even though we know that, like sexuality, most of that is invisible. Lastly - none of these things exist in isolation, intersectionality is a thing for all of us. Urgh, weird formatting glitch. Sorry.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
williejm replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Looking back at @Robert8 ‘s amazing ideas for CMFs, and seeing the ‘Rosie the Riveter’ figure from series V, made me realise that we have really not had much ‘diversity’ in minifigure scarf head coverings. We had the classic, and updated bandana*, from the pirates; we had a brief appearance of a Keffiyeh in the Prince of Persia sets, and; we had Trelawney and Jack Sparrow with specific hair and scarf hairpieces. Other than that - nothing in City. No Hijab-style scarf ever. No headscarf like the Queen might wear on a windy/bad hair day, no headscarf tying up the hair. Would certainly be a boost for some contemporary and historical diversity in figures, and CMFs would be a good place to introduce some options. * updated bandana at least has some more contemporary uses for those who wear headscarves, including those covering up hairloss thru’ illness, than the old style. -
I mean, it’s not so much a pet project, as a role he has to develop such sets and explore opportunities. Saying that this is at the expense of other forms of diversity is also nonsense, not least because in the QE set two of the main characters are not white. Moreover racial, gender and ability diversity is something that Lego is clearly looking at across all sets - as we can see by the increase in colour diversity in licencsed sets (See HP & JW); better gender ratios in all sets, and; the inclusion of wheelchair users, blind characters and characters with hearing airs in different ‘everyday’ sets.

Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

I need more Wakandans. All the Wakandans please -
Is that that a mould issue, rather than a colour issue?

Yep, I think in the real world, this will be a great hit. Dunno why people need to pull it down, but hey ho. Dumbledore is gay, but you don’t have to complain that he’s not representing you as a gay man with no beard / magic /pet Phoenix. Also - fun fact - not everyone gets married, wants to, or even can. So a wedding set is equally unrepresentative anyways 🤷🏽♂️ This thread is not a reflection of the real world. This gay man will be buying it.
-
Yep, think that may also be to do with the QE branding they do say Bobby was involved in designing the set. I do think it works better on this one for sure.

JVN also gets two alternate hairstyle options. Just a shame minifigs can’t do a proper hair toss in real life. Love the level of detail on this, and including JVN’s old teacher as a makeover subject is just *so cute* I can’t EVEN.

71033 LEGO Muppets CMF Series - Rumors & Discussion
williejm replied to Borex's topic in LEGO Licensed
Think this is the correct take tbqh. Also worth noting that, in including Throg with Loki in the Marvel CMF, Lego have broken the pattern of *not* including smaller characters as accessories. Maybe this could apply to Rizzo the rat, for example. -
Gonzo might get a chicken … series 22 better deliver us some animals then!

71033 LEGO Muppets CMF Series - Rumors & Discussion

I’m really hoping for Rowlf. With the obvious mould investment in heads, I’ve also been thinking about whether any sets might happen. Lego Muppet Christmas Carol D2C anyone? #nocheesesforusmeeses -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 22. Rumors and discussion
williejm replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Yeah, I think the jury is out still - the hinted ‘frog figure’ could well be Kermit rather than a frog costume. That said, Lego does sometimes double up with things like this - think penguin and penguin costume in Series 16. -
Bruley! Hooray!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
williejm replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Hmm. I appreciate it’s all speculation at the moment, but were a ‘Muppets’ CMF to happen, I would expect it to include Muppets, Sesame Street and maybe even other characters like the Fraggles*. That would be in keeping with how the Disney CMFs operate, and allow them to reuse some of the existing moulds made for the Sesame Street set. Of course Licensed series can also have a varying number of slots, and indeed a varying number of series. To that end - worth watching if this seems to be a ‘standalone’ ‘complete’ series (arguably like Looney Tunes) or one setting up for another (as the Simpsons and Disney definitely did). * and yes, this may be wishful thinking, but I’m an optimist like Boober. -
Seems that Matthew Ashton is teasing us again

And totally doesn’t fit with the owls, penguin, ostrich, flamingo, gull, eagles or even the small bird. I am a wee bit torn, as I genuinely appreciate the sculpted animals without printing, they can be useful in many ways - but Lego has crossed the bridge on this one, and it really needs some consistency for interoperability of the critters. -

Valid. The cobra is an odd outlier in this too. Also, the hermit crab and lobster having eyes makes the crab look outdated 🤨 -
Same. JVN will be the first ‘canon’ non-binary Lego character, right? And given their normal attire, and the fact that minifigs don’t get high heels. I think a skirt is a good compromise.
-
Yes to all of this. Antoni could use a few different hairpieces but I think it will be the now-standard swept back hair. Will JVN get a skirt? I’d also guess that Karamo has a baseball cap. plus hoping Bruley the French Bulldog is included.

Same mould, different colour. The one in 60302 is ‘normal’ green, rather than the dark green -
Can honestly see the Brick costume returning a few times in different ways, maybe the next Pride-themed set will be a rainbow of Brick costume figures. 🟥🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪⬛️⬜️🟫

Agreed we need ‘bigger’ dogs represented. I’d like to see some mongrel mutts too. to date the dogs we have in City / system are: 1 shepherd (various prints for German shepherd, and recoloured for Dalmatian); 2 husky; 3 chihuahua; 4 terrier; 5 French bulldog; 6 bulldog; 7 dachshund; 8 retriever all of those come in at least two colour or print variants.
