But the animals would be available, albeit for a limited time, at a decent low price point, and it’s likely new moulds would be produced that would get reused in BAM, City sets etc ,.. are you honestly arguing *against* a lot of new animals in CMF28?!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
williejm replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I do think that, at some point, we will get a ‘Castle’ themed CMF. I also think that it will inevitably be both wildly popular *and* not what hardcore Castle fans wanted at the same time. I think the reason we haven’t had one yet is a combination of things. Firstly, we have some ‘castle adjacent’ themes, notably HP and the ever-growing castle bits that delivers. We also have large and expensive Castle sets such as Blacksmith and Creator which feed the hardcore fans. Plus we have just had a D&D CMF and exclusive set. Mostly though, I think the normal CMF series have been an exceptionally rich source of Castle figures, arguably more so than any other subtheme, aside from costume figures, which did not come with an existing fan base. From the earliest series exclusive and desirable CMF figures, often very army-buildable, have been the mainstay of CMF series. They remain popular and a draw to the series as a whole, and are very lucrative/expensive on the after-sales market. Just look up any of the knights, elves, forest folk, or even the questionable centaur. All of that suits Lego, keeping the Castle fans fed, but also not having to resurrect a full theme, relying on chase figures and big D2C sets. -

The ongoing process of hiding what are basically quite simple and cheap animal variants in high-value sets continues …

Okay - I think I’m ready. Here’s my list based on assumptions that Cat & Koala mask are included, and that the “Animals” theme is not specifically animal costumes: 1 Cat costume, with recoloured mouse from S18 🐭 2 Koala costume with recoloured koala 🐨 3 Peacock costume, reusing existing ‘wing’ arm pieces, and turkey tail, new headpiece 4 Kelpie, mermaid tail, moulded head (similar to Unicorn that came with Vidiyo and BAM) with long flowing mane 5 Anubis 6 Sorceress with raven 🐦⬛ 7 Park Ranger and red fox 🦊 8 Victorian naturalist (Charles Darwin tribute) and new dodo mould 🦤 9 Shepherd with lamb and new border collie mould 🐶 10 Lumberjill with brick-built chainsaw, and new beaver mould 🦫 11 Bush vet with new kangaroo mould 🦘 12 Highland cow fan, ginger haired kid with new hat/hair piece with cow horns, and with new Highland calf mould 🐮 It will be no surprise that what I *really* want from this series is as many useable new animal moulds and variants as possible, but I have tried to remain measured in my guesses. So I have only gone for a minimal of ten new moulds (of which five are animals) and five reused/recoloured animals. 😝

Personally I don’t think it’s 12 animal costumes, but others seem to have run with that assumption. So far none of the in-house themed series (Monsters, Party, Space) have been very tightly defined or realised, so I see no reason to assume ‘Animals’ will be. If nothing else, they usually try and include figures that appeal to a wide variety of themes & collectors, and though they are popular, I can’t see fans of Space, Castle, Pirates etc having much use for animal costumes.

I can definitely see future CMFs giving us variations for both the Griffin & Kraken factions! -
Dark tan, yeah? The set is cute, but seems to have sacrificed a lot of buildings for a few too many minifigs

LEGO Collectable Minifurries Series 28. Rumors and discussion
williejm replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Whilst acknowledging the info we currently have is very scant, I think we can realistically rule out a licensed theme. A) that info would leak much more consistently than ‘it’s “animals”’, B) we will just have had two licenses in a row: a third seems vanishingly unlikely.- 178 replies

Nice. Anubis crossed my mind as a possibility here too! That Anubis guard figure from Pharaoh’s Quest all those years ago was awesome, but very rare.

MOC Charley Harper- Red and Fed in Lego

This is gorgeous. Think you’re right that Charley Harper’s simplified style is something that really lends itself to Lego interpretation. Well done!- 6 replies

I mean, that’s kinda what I was suggesting with something like a boxing kangaroo, or maybe a foray into fantasy animals. I can imagine a minifig version of a Kelpie or a Manticore for example. I still think this will be a series that gives us a mix of things to a broad theme though … but we are all just speculating on very little info!

I feel like, if we get those sorts of characters, they will be more like the anthropomorphic animal characters we got via Vidiyo- 178 replies

A bit presumptive of you at this stage, but you do you. -
Yes to this idea. Maybe a Charles Darwin figure is most likely though - with a giant tortoise? Yes, welcome @pinar! Someone needs to keep @Roebuck right …

There has been a definite ‘shrinkflation’ in City sets and elsewhere regarding animals in non animal-themes. Where we previously had generous helpings of dogs, cats and owls, these days we are more likely to just get a puppy, a kitten, or a small bird. It may well just be the other side of the pendulum swing, to counter animal-focused subthemes like Farm & Wildlife Rescue
-
Series 14 was still pretty early in terms of animals: we weren’t really seeing the consistency we have seen in recent years from CMFs, plus this was the first ‘themed’ series - and that black cat was (and arguably still is) a pretty big deal on its own! Series 18 gave us a new and so-far exclusive mouse, an exclusive recolour of the fish, a black spider reuse, and two different coloured balloon dogs. Where we see CMFs featuring ‘stand in’ or ‘pretend’ animals, such as plush toys, piñata etc. we often usually see less *real* animals. Though I have no use for them, the robo dog and space penguin in Series 26 were unexpected, and the same is true of the various Spidey-fied animals coming in the Spiderverse series. To me that speaks more to the normalisation of animal accessories in CMFs overall. I’m trying not to get my hopes up, but I’m cautiously optimistic for the Animal series PS _ this is also where that challenge I set a while back to name the twelve animals to come in a Lego CMF where they’d be the last ever, comes into its own ;)
