As I don't have much room, I am trying not to buy any more sets at all, just individual parts. Since I came out of my dark ages, I have bought 14 Technic sets (big, small, used and new), and one small Creator set, as well as one small Star Wars set. However, both those sets are dismantled, and stowed away in two separate boxes. If I had the room to keep models displayed, I would like to get some of the Star Wars UCS sets, and maybe some of the good looking modular buildings, but as of now I simply have nowhere to put things. Space is so limited, I can't have more than one project going at any time. Whenever I want to start something new, I must first dismantle whatever previous thing I'v been working on

That is really great! Seeing the bottom pictures makes me want to go back out to sea!:-) good thing they took you out a bit further than just the inner harbour area;-) Next project should be a detailed model of the international space station! Then contact ESA, to see if they will send you into space, along with a huge Lego model!! Imagine seeing a picture of a model ISS floating in space next to the real thing!:-D Joking aside; you should be really proud of your creation! Hope you won't have to take it apart for parts for your next project! (ISS)

Sheepo's Land Rover 110 review
D3K replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great review! I really like like how you point out small mistakes and provide useful solutions, info and alternative ways to work around them! Can absolutely not wait to start building this! -
Land-Rover Defender 110
D3K replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, it's getting late.. good thing I still have a couple of House of Cards episodes to keep me busy in the mean time Looking forward to it! (the review, that is) Also, you should definitely make a separate topic! -
Welcome to the forums! Less than half a year ago, I was more or less in the exact same shoes as you now find yourself in! It was definitely difficult in the beginning, but when I make a MOC now, I exclusively use studless construction techniques! Studded is solely for the aesthetics! As others have already mentioned: GET SARIEL'S BOOK!! It's exceptionally good value, and an absolute must !

Land-Rover Defender 110
D3K replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Will the review be up tonightal ready? really looking forward to reading it! When it comes to the car, I can't wait to build it! Already planning to make a superstructure in the style of the British Army's WMIK (Weapons Mount Installation Kit - if memory serves me right) Land Rovers, which really resembles the Geländewagens we used in Afghanistan! Really looking forward to getting the parts, instructions, and some time to myself to build this!! -
Lego Technic 2h 2013
D3K replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Agreed, it resembles some sort of anchoring system, used when recovering vehicles. To keep the recovery truck stationary when winching very heavy loads horizontally. Similar in function, I would assume, to the dozer blade you see on military tracked recovery vehicles- 902 replies

Land-Rover Defender 110
D3K replied to Sheepo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Lol, I too am a student, but I just took on a second job besides school, so hopefully next month I will have a little more money to throw around! I have started collecting the needed bricks from bricklink (mainly thin liftarms and connectors), and will buy the instructions once I have 100 % ! -

Will throw in my one heavy machinery MOC here, my Swingloader ; Am planning to do a revamped verison with better transmission of power later this winter. In the meantime, check out this BrickShelf folder for the evolution of this MOC -
Alternatives for rare pieces?

How about pneumatic hoses? At least for wheel arches, I think they look better than the 19L flex axles -

I like it! And agreed; this model is fantastic fun! One of the better B-models in my opinion! -
How much do you spend on Technic?
D3K replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have, since my return from the dark ages less than a year ago, spent way to much, especially on bricklink! I have bought several of the newer sets second hand, and gotten pretty good deals (8455 : 1000 NOK, 8420 : 300 NOK, 8297 : 500 NOK, 8043 : 900 NOK, 8109 : 350 NOK etc etc) (10 NOK roughly equals 1 GBP). I have to take a break from buying sets though, due to space limitations, and I don't even keep any of them assembled!:-) -
[REVIEW] 8450 The Mission
D3K replied to Lost_In_Noise's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice review as always! This is one of those almost mythical sets, that popped up during my dark ages, so it's nice to see some detailed photos of it's inner workings!- 41 replies

Lego Technic 2h 2013
D3K replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I totally agree! One has to make certain compromises, after all;no matter how you put it, Lego is a toy. However, it is a unique, educational toy, especially Technic, letting you create and understand complex mechanics, while letting you evolve creatively! And when you're at it (allanp); it's not the EXACT same thing, whereas one uses an incompressible liquid, and the other uses a compressible gas. But this is one of the compromises I'm talking about! Yes; pneumatics better simulate the actual working system of many machines, but I for one would argue that LA's offer an equally educational mechanic solution to a similar problem! This is one of the reasons I really like the new recovery truck, as it uses the best from two worlds!:-) The argument over which is the best; pneumatics or linear actuators, will probably never be settled. I am a huge fan of both systems, and they both have advantages and disadvantages! And before you start talking "realism", keep in mind: NEITHER is used in real life heavy machinery! (at least not for the functions they are meant to replicate)- 902 replies

Lego Technic 2h 2013
D3K replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Have to agree here! This is getting borderline stupid. With your definitions of 'realism', I think we can all agree there is not a single Technic set ever that has come close to what it is based on, realistically speaking.- 902 replies

I just bought 4x 8070 supercars

Will pick one or two up if I can get out to the TRU here outside Bergen! Not that big a fan of the model, but great for parts for making other cars!:-) -
Lego Technic 2h 2013
D3K replied to sama's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks great! I would imagine the four functions of the superstructure gearbox are 1. Winch 2. Elevate boom 3. Extend boom 4. Direct power through the turntable to the chassis gearbox, which will -- 1. Extend outriggers -- 2. Deploy outriggers Also, doesn't it look like they alterede the boom of the crane compared to the preliminary, fuzzy picture? I seem to remember the sides of it covered by yellow 5x11 panels, rather than the new style 3x11 with the pin holes. EDIT This looks like a perfect crane to make fully RC, as it seems to have lot of room for some fancy solutions!- 902 replies
